Top 5 favourite YouTube videos from 2016

2016 is behind us and it was a great year in many aspects and a terrible one in others but I'm choosing to focus on the positives and make a compilation of the top 5 favourite videos that went up to my YouTube channel. One video per week gave a lot of material and choosing five was tough but here are the ones I liked best:

Tokyo is one of my favourite cities in the world and I was lucky enough to visit during spring for Fashion Week. In this video, I tried a bunch of Japanese snacks and told you all about it!

Blogger life is more complicated than you may think; so I did a funny video talking about all the lies that they (sometimes we) say on a daily basis, haha.

One of my favourite things is giving advice and on this video I told you my best tips and secrets on how to dress better without spending a fortune. Useful stuff, you know?

For me, there are two sacred days in every year: my birthday and Christmas. I turn into a male version of Bree van de Kamp and I try to control every single detail on those days, from food to schedules, from presents to coasters on the table. I get super stressed but it's completely worth it. I've been spending Christmas in Sacramento for two years in a row now and no matter how imperfect or crazy things get, the one thing that always keeps me focused and happy is the fact that I get to spend this time with my family and loved ones.

My favourite part of Christmas definitely has to be hanging with my mom and cooking with her: we took control over dinner this year and made it a bit more special (usually it's the new family who takes charge). The holidays are a great time to bond with family and loved ones and to remember who's an important part of your life and why. When it's all cold outside, the warmth has to come from our hearts. Wow, that was really cheesy, huh?

Now the next year is about to begin with a bunch of new opportunities and things to do... And maybe the thing that I'm trying to say or what I want everyone to remember is that creating a home is important and when it's cold outside (metaphorically, of course), it's good to have a nice warm place (or people) you can go to, a place where you feel safe, just like Sacramento has become a home away from home to me now...

"I just met the love of my life"

Wisdom #22 I just met the love of my life
For all of those out there who actually know me in real life, you've probably heard me saying the title of this post quite a lot throughout my life. I fall in love so easily (99% of times, my heart ends up broken) and this year wasn't the exception. If you follow me on social media, you know that I'm in Sacramento spending the winter holidays with my mom; my life has revolved around shopping and eating junk food... And, also, falling in love.

I'm not going to go deep into details but I think I just met the love of my life! Haha. She's quirky, cool, really pretty and I love her already. Well, not love her but I am attracted to her. That's all good and everything but, you know what? She doesn't like me back and I have zero chances with her. But, despite being sad about that, I think that falling in love once in a while makes you feel alive and it's good for the soul. If something happens along the way, I'll let you know. PS: Sorry if this post is weird. Happy Holidays!

¡Felices fiestas!
Love always,
Henry.

A lonely road 6
Throughout this month, I've been focusing on the positive aspects of having people that you love around you, but, now I want to tackle something a bit different: what happens when you don't have that? When you're walking a lonely road with no one else around? Well, I think there are two ways of looking at situations like that: you're alone because you haven't found the people you're looking for  and neither have them OR you're alone because you choose to be alone.

A few months ago, I had a conversation with my sister and I told her that I'm becoming more and more practical with my emotions and I've decided that if someone isn't adding anything to my life, I'll kick that person out of it, it doesn't matter if that person has been my friend for ages or if he/she is a part of my family. I've realised that I don't need any energy draining from anybody and that's why, if the time comes, I will be okay with being alone.

The other route is tricky as well; I've met people that, for one reason or the other, can't manage to socialise and function around others; I'm pretty sure you've met someone like that: they can be awkward, or annoying or rude... For some reason, people seem to avoid them. If you're not okay with being alone, sometimes it's important to make an effort and modify certain aspects of your personality, that will make it easier for you and for others to gather and start creating bonds, start making friendships happen.

Gratitude

Life Journal 52 Gratitude is the quality of being thankful, having a readiness to show appreciation for, and to return, kindness. December is always a special month because of the holidays, it's a time for reflection because the year's at its end and; it's also a time to think about the good things that happened throughout the year. It's a good time to have gratitude.

December isn't usually the most peaceful month though, people get stressed about Christmas, about dinner parties, about presents. It doesn't have to be this way. Every day of the final month of the year can be spent in a different way, appreciating life, appreciating all that's good: the quick family breakfasts, the laughs at the holiday parties. Gratitude towards everything in the universe that allow us to wake up for one more day, towards each other, towards ourselves.

Love always,
Henry.

Electricity 4
What makes a good relationship (any kind of relationship, from friendship to romantic interests) possible? I believe that it has something to do with electricity; it's about feeling a connection that starts with a spark and evolves into energy, into power. Think about the people that you love: family, friends, girlfriends and boyfriends... We care about them because they make us feel special, they makes us feel something that no one else can, they create sparks.

Electricity is defined as a form of energy resulting from the existence of charged particles, either by a current or by an accumulation of static, that's what science says but; there's a second meaning to electricity, a more poetic one if you ask me: it's a state or feeling of thrilling excitement. That's what we feel when we see our loved ones, when we're able to spend time with these special individuals.

The day we stop feeling electricity, stop getting excited, then that's when relationships die, just like items that run out of batteries. I think now that the year's ending, it's important to think about the amount of energy that we're putting out there in the world and in the people we care about; we have to distribute that into the ones that are most important to us and learn to let go of others. It sounds tough at first but, trust me, once you let those out our your life, everything will feel lighter, you'll feel a bit more liberated, at ease.

Henry.

More Than a Band

Wisdom 21 More Than A Band I have an unusual profession: I'm a blogger and YouTuber. My job is sharing several aspects of my life with the world, give my opinion to others, it's a really weird career. I started this website almost five years ago and I couldn't be any more grateful for all of the opportunities and good things that have come with it... But one thing has always stood out: the people.

Not long ago, I had a meet and greet with some of my followers and I was overwhelmed with their kindness and good vibes. It reassured me that I'm doing the right thing, that I'm doing this for a reason and that there's always something great around the corner. Another branch of greatness has been meeting other bloggers and YouTubers, I've come to know them, hang out, become friends with them and treasure our relationship deeply. We're more than colleagues, we're like a band: we work together, we face similar struggles and discover new opportunities with every door that one of us opens.

But, in the same way, we're more than a band, we're more than co-workers, than teammates: we're friends, we understand each other and if one of us makes it big, we all accomplish a huge step in our journeys. We play different concerts, have different genres, we're a band and we're more than that. My shoulder is their shoulder, their tears are my tears. We come from different worlds but this crazy job has brought us together and I don't regret, not for one second, meeting any of the friends I've made along the way.

Love always,
Henry.

Sometimes, life throws you a curve ball and you have to figure out what to do and how to make the most of it. The other day, I had a photoshoot with an online store called Okilucky and the idea was to go to some cool cabins in the forest and do a Holiday shoot. That didn't quite work out the way we wanted tho, mainly because the cool cabins were unavailable and we ended up shooting outdoors. We had to be resourceful.

Although it was just one outfit to shoot and we were doing blogger team-ups, I invited my friend Luis Galicia (@bigotesdelince on Instagram) to join us and we ended up having a blast and shooting four different outfits, haha. We were true warriors and went uphill on the back of a pickup truck, where we almost died, haha, faced hunger, lack of electricity and a mad dog... We survived and  made the most out of a less than ideal situation.

This outfit is one of the four we shot (you can see a portrait of a different one on my Instagram by clicking here) and I was so happy with the results! It looks like we're on a road trip and just casually got some shots snapped. Luis is a really great photographer, a good friend and I think we see eye-to-eye in lots of things and that chemistry comes across in the photos we shoot together. Our "express road trip" ended up being really fun and we got some great shots out there (:

Catching Up

Wisdom #20 Catching Up MQOne of the things I like best about friendships is that, sometimes, you may not see your friends in a while but when you have the chance to sit down and catch up, you notice that nothing has changed. In a sense, time and space are a matter of perspective: yes, physical distance exists and it's a big deal but I think that if the distance remains physical and not emotional, then the relationships with your loved ones always manage to pull through and overcome any possible obstacles.

I've had my ups and downs with my loved ones: we fight, we tell each other hurtful things but, at the end of the day, the relationships with a certain value remain, we learn from our mistakes, we solve misunderstandings and, somehow, end up stronger. Even when you may not see the people you care about in a long time, as long as you still find common ground and think about the stuff that knits you close, you'll be fine. Always make time for catching up, fight for the people you believe in and find those moments to hang out, to still be part of each other's lives.

Love always,
Henry.

hero items collaboration hm 3 We all have certain pieces in our wardrobe that are true lifesavers, you know, those things that are go-to's, that make you look and feel great and that are timeless; I call those hero items; since they have the power to turn any outfit into a great one and are a clear extension of your personality. A hero item is like a piece of clothing that helps you feel like you and one that you can't live without.

Today, I'm going to focus on one that has been my hero item for quite a while now: the biker jacket. Some of my friends tell me that I have too many biker jackets in my closet (I think I have 7 or 8), but, they're that one piece that makes me feel like me and one that, I'm completely certain and it's scientifically proven, makes me look handsome. So, no matter what, I'm always going to have one in my closet. The one featured on this post is my current favourite, it comes from H&M and I love the jackets from there because of the slim fit, plus the quality is really great and they're affordable, haha.

Think about what your hero items are; take a look in the mirror and figure out what are those garments that are your go-to's and the ones you constantly wear on a daily basis. Those are the pieces that it's okay to splurge on, because you will wear them a lot and have them on your wardrobe for ages. Hero items must be classic, timeless and versatile, they're the core of your closet and you build up different outfits based on them. Pick and invest on them wisely and you'll be fine, I promise (:

December: To My Loved Ones...

December Loved Ones Being grateful is really important,

It's the final month of 2016, another year has gone by and it all happened really fast. December is always a good month for me, Christmas is my favourite time of the year and, for that reason, I look at things with glasses filled with optimism and a certain charm that I don't always pay attention to during the rest of the year. It's within this special time, I like to reminisce and think about all of the good things that happened and all of the things that make me feel grateful.

2016 was a peculiar year because it was filled with good and terrible moments. I've been extremely happy this year but I've also been completely miserable. The one thing that stands out the most, though, is the people that I got the chance to meet. New friends sprouted out of nowhere and that alone made this whole year and the experiences (good and bad) that came with it worth it.

Throughout December, I'll be talking a lot about the people and places that make me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It's a great time to recall all of the good things while seating by the chimney drinking a cup of hot cocoa or some winter cliché like that. I love all that. As usual, there's a playlist waiting for you with a bunch of my favourite music, check it out by clicking here or going to my YouTube channel.

Pretty soon, I'll be in California visiting my mom and working from there, so, please bear with me and keep coming back to see more fun stuff, will you?

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas,
Henry.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas,
Henry.
