Just Desserts

"Just desserts" is a phrase that I like very much; it means that someone gets what's coming to them, they get what they deserve. I believe in karma, in chained reactions, if you do good deeds, good things will come to you and viceversa. Life works in mysterious ways and sometimes we might feel like it's unfair, especially when we see people doing bad things and not getting any sort of punishment for that. 

Sometimes we take justice into our own hands, we skip the whole karma process and make an effort to right the wrongs; now, I'm not saying that's bad (because I'm also a firm believer in doing what feels right and fighting for justice) but this usually ends up with us getting our hands dirty, it gets messy. Nowadays, I'm trying really hard to take things easy and just let life balance everything out, I think that's helping me feel at ease and less stressed. If there's nothing you can do to change a situation, then step aside and let time handle it.

I want to think that people who take advantage of others, who are shady and skip ahead, will eventually find themselves paying for their actions. Everything, and I mean every single thing, in this life comes with a price, no one's exempt from that, there's always this principle of equivalent exchange roaming around, everything has its own cost... It's up to us to decide if we're going to directly intervene in a situation with a person or if we're going to stay in the bleachers and watch him/her get their just desserts; it's a matter of convenience, cleverness and being rational enough to choose the right battles to fight.

// "Just desserts" es una frase que me gusta mucho y no tiene equivalencia en español, se refiere a cuando alguien obtiene lo que se merece, lo que se ha buscado. Creo en el karma, en las reacciones en cadena, si haces cosas buenas, cosas buenas vienen a ti y viceversa. La vida funciona en formas curiosas y a veces podemos sentir que es injusta, especialmente cuando vemos gente haciendo cosas malas y no recibir algún tipo de castigo por eso. 

A veces tomamos la justicia en nuestras propias manos, nos brincamos todo el proceso de karma y hacemos un esfuerzo por corregir lo que está mal; ahora, no estoy diciendo que eso sea malo (porque también creo firmemente en hacer lo que se siente correcto y luchar por la justicia) pero esto usualmente termina con nosotros ensuciándonos las manos, se vuelve complicado. En estos días, estoy intentando mucho tomar las cosas con calma y dejar que la vida balancee todo, creo que me ayuda a sentirme más tranquilo y menos estresado. Si no hay algo que puedas hacer para cambiar una situación, entonces hay que quitarse de ahí y dejar que el tiempo haga su magia.

Quiero pensar que la gente que se aprovecha de los demás, que actúa con intenciones ocultas y hace trampa para avanzar, eventualmente pagará por sus acciones. Todo, y me refiero a todo, cada cosa, en esta vida tiene un precio, nadie está exento de eso, siempre existe el principio de intercambio equivalente en el aire, todo en esta vida se paga... Está en nosotros decidir si vamos a intervenir directamente en una situación con una persona o si nos vamos a quedar en las gradas y ver cómo él/ella consigue sus "just desserts"; es una cuestión de conveniencia, astucia y ser lo suficientemente racionales para elegir las batallas que vale la pena luchar.
