Stylish dudes: Matthias Cornilleau

For the last couple of months I've been interviewing some cool guys and sharing their thoughts here for a new sub-section within Stylish Dudes. Last month, the interviewee was the 16 year old, amazing, German blogger Leon David from Round Metal. This month, I interviewed Parisian (really sophisticated) blogger Matthias Cornilleau, from Styl(NOX)e to close the year on a high note.

Tell me a little bit about yourself:

I'm Matthias Cornilleau and I'm studying communication in Sciences-Po (Paris). I prefer being outside spending time with my friends. I'm also fond of drawing & buying new clothes or accessories. Paris is very nice but I enjoy traveling since it's possible: I hate the idea of being fixed somewhere.

Describe an average day of your life:

Wake up at 9am, a cup of tea, some classes before going to walk in Paris and have some coffee with my friends. And, if I've enough time & money, a little shopping in thrift or luxury stores. In the end, I like reading or listening to music with a glass of white wine in my place.

What are you really passionate about?

Drawing and traveling.

How do you feel about blogging?

Blogging is a good way to share an opinion without feeling the fashion professionals' pressure: you can express yourself (fashion, lifestyle, etc.) as you want to.

When did you become invested in fashion, how was that process?

I fell in love with haute-couture when I was 14, I think. The I focused on men's fashion and vintage causes.

Who would you consider a stylish dude from this time and why?

In my mind, the characters interpreted by Johnny Depp are always stylish... My favorite band is Archive and I like their black style.

Your looks are always amazing and very editorial. How do you feel about wearing that kind of clothes? What's the fashion scene like for guys under 21 in Paris?

Sorry but I don't now... Maybe cause I don't take part of it hahaha. About my clothes, sometimes I say to myself: "maybe it's not appropriate to the streets!"

I really like the titles for your looks on social media, especially the Greek mythology references, why do you use them?

Thanks! I'm fond of mythology. To me, it's really close to fashion, or my inspiration at least (colors, legends...).

Where do you see yourself in five years? What will you be doing?

I would like to be in a plane to Tokyo, or just traveling all the time; meeting new people, discovering each culture.

When you're feeling pressured or overwhelmed, what activity helps you re-find your center?

I plan a trip abroad, or go to the country to breath fresh air.

What are some your favourite books, TV series, musicians and other artists?

As I've said, I'm a fan of Archive, I'm always listening to it. Series? Twin Peaks by David Lynch.

What would you say to someone seeking general fashion advice?

Be yourself, dare to wear what you want and don't care about trends.

Thank you Matthias! If you wanna know more about this incredible guy, be sure to catch him at his blog: Styl(NOX)e; like him on Facebook, follow him on Twitter and see his looks at LookBook.nu and Chictopia

Happy New Year to everyone! Hen.

Cynical

I'm wearing:

1. Striped sleeveless t-shirt, from River Island.
2. Beige vest, from Pull & Bear.
3. Black super skinny jeans, from Asos.
4. Denim sneakers, from Converse.
5. Blue hat, from Pull & Bear.
6. Crystal necklace, from Asos.
7. Golden ring, from Forever 21.

Remember when I talked about a photo shoot I had with some friends? Well, I already presented the first part of it and this is the second outfit. The later two parts are group photos and they'll be posted soon.

For this outfit I really wanted to bring some summer vibes to the chilly winter weather, that's why I called this "cynical". I actually love winter and I don't mind wearing outfits like this out in the cold; maybe that's why I always get sick at this time of the year. Hehe.

I think the accessories on this one really make it special. It just wouldn't be the same without them. The crystal necklace from Asos is pretty cool, the ring from Forever 21 is kinda fancy and the hat allows me to try a different hairstyle (which is always appreciated).

Clavicles are my favourite bones. They're just so cool.
Let's see what New Year's Eve brings to us, Hen.

Been an awful good guy (Frank Wright Shoes Collab)

 I'm wearing:

1. Striped sweater, from Pull & Bear.
2. Simple black t-shirt, from Asos.
3. Super skinny jeans with contrast panel, from H&M.
5. Pocket watch necklace, from Asos.

Christmas is three days away, I'm so excited though this might be my last post before the 24th. I have a feeling that this year's Christmas is going to be awesome. And, overall, December has been amazing. I've been hanging out a lot with friends and taking photos, going to events and planning future photoshoots. End of the world? BAH!

I also got a pair of boots from Frank Wright and they're the coolest I've ever had. I must tell, growing up I didn't wear anything but sneakers. Recently I opened up to oxford shoes and desert boots. What I love the most of these Frank Wrights is that they're the perfect balance between boots and sneakers. The sole is amazing, they're super strong (I can actually stand on my toes and the boots are always unharmed), I just truly love them. They're my favourite Christmas gift so far.

As for the brand, Frank Wright is quite amazing on their variety of shoes for men. They have desert boots, oxfords, boots like mine, brogues, bags and right now almost every item on their site has a 50% discount. They do international delivery too! I mean, what's not to love about them? If you like what you see here, check out their website, like them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter. You won't regret it.

Merry Christmas, Hen.

H&M Spring '13 showroom

Once again, the lovely H&M PR team invited me to their collection showroom (that so happens to be incredibly near of my office). This time the items showcased belong to the Spring collection that includes not only clothing but the launch of their home line (available on March 2013) which is pretty amazing if I say so myself!

Their home line is kinda adorable. I love the idea of mixing the animal and the human world (wild creatures and geometric patterns) in a living room or a bedroom. They've got some great items that, I'm pretty sure, will cover tons of houses once they arrive in March.

Moving onto the women's collection, I'm a huge fan of all the embroidery pieces, the jeans are really cool, the jackets are incredible and I do love the fact that they're turning romantic wallpapers into prints (maybe they should do it for guys too? HINT HINT)

I also really loved the men's collection (I loved everything, really) and the idea of an intelligent gentleman came to mind since I felt it was the goal. There are suits, sweaters, t-shirts, jeans, army pants... It seems to me that they went back to basics and the purpose is to make different combos with these pieces. The shoes are so dapper (I want them, seriously), and the accessories (like glasses and hats) are really versatile.

Pictured above are my favourite pieces of the menswear collection. I loved that sweater, the oversized hat and the knitted collar shirt. I wasn't really sure about the pink blazer at first but someone on the showroom insisted that it looked great and I believed him; so kind person if you're reading this: THANK YOU!

Hope you enjoyed this exclusive sneak peek, Hen.

Infatuation

I'm wearing:

1. Blue quilted varsity jacket, from Asos.
2. Srriped knotted t-shirt, from Zara.
3. Black super skinny jeans, from Asos.
4. Black leather lace up boots, from Asos.
5. Enlarged watchframe necklace, from Maison Martin Margiela for H&M.
6. Cross ring pack, from Asos.
Here they are, the photos I talked about on my last post. After we danced and danced and danced to surf music, did graffiti, took fun pictures at a pop-up studio, we hanged out on the quiet side of the Converse party and Sand had the idea of shooting me in front of a mirror. I'll admit, I was quite skeptical about it, but I'm super pleased with the results.

Later on, I decided to do a dissonant effect on the photos by fusing them and thus create different reflections. The half chair looks amazing, I didn't do that, it was already there. Overall, it was a great picture idea, so thanks Sand's brain! (:

There were three important things for me about this look and they're all on my middle area:

1. The knot on the t-shirt. It's my latest obsession, just think it looks incredibly cool and edgy.
2. The Maison Martin Margiela for H&M watchframe necklace. It's such an awesome piece and I wanted to give it the spotlight.
3. The Asos cross rings. It's a 9 ring pack and that allows me to group them differently on each hand (again, dissonance).

What do you think about this look?

Converse Spring 2013 preview

Life is made of contrasts. There's always good and bad, truths and lies, fun and boring. Converse knows this and they played with the idea of it on a super cool showcase of their Spring 2013 collection. The event had lots of cool things; there was a sneakers exhibition of course, but there also were sculptures, a graffiti wall, an amazing photo studio, a surf music concert (and food, AND drinks, hehe). It was really, really great.

Estuvo bien, bien padre.

The new collection of Converse has a total rebellious attitude. And let's not think rebellious as studded jackets and motorcycles, no no. Let's see it as a re-invention of their designs. For the girls, this is reflected in platform neon sneakers, trojan flip flops with rubber sole and subtle pink details on the inside of the sneaker.

The guys can wear a re-thought version of the classic Converse, this time in different textures and fabrics with tweeks here and there (like the reduced tips and more seams); and, my favourite part: boat shoes. Boat shoes that work like sneakers and are, honestly, amazing.

It was a pretty cool event. I took some outfit photos and I'll be uploading them soon. Overall, it was super fun and I'm glad I had the chance to take a +1 with me, it wouldn't have been the same without you Sand (:

What do you think about this re-imagined collection from Converse?

Get dressed like you mean it: Dockers Spring/Summer 2013

Gotta admit, my whole life I thought Dockers was a brand for dads and boring twenty-something guys. I stand corrected. When I was invited to their spring-summer '13 collection showcase, I was promised a youthful, fun, still all-American line. That's what I saw. Tons of color, textures, slim fits. It was amazing.

The event happened on a hotel's roofgarden. The idea was "Get dressed like you mean it", which alludes to the art of choosing an outfit for every occasion and really putting your mind into it. At first, a cool video showed the everyday routine of men while getting ready to go out. Choosing a shirt, jeans, shaving, all that. At the end of the video, the guys left the room and, SHAZAM! They were on the hotel, behind the glass walls. It was a pretty cool trick.

After that, and between mandarin mojitos, the models walked and posed in a stage that was in front of everybody. The clothes looked great. It was mainly menswear, that made me really happy. And yeah, I loved several pieces, like the salmon chinos, the denim shirts,  the one with the blue panel and the bow ties. Man, I love bow ties. And for the girls, the dotted jeans were amazing.

Overall, Dockers surprised me in a pleasant way. This event definitely changed the way I see the brand and I find super cool that they're taking risks with colors and fits (without losing their "all American man" seal) proving that their target market has expanded. Way to go Dockers!

What do you think about Dockers? Hen.

Stylish dudes: Leon David

So, here's the deal. I launched a new sub-section for Stylish dudes. I've been interviewing some cool guys and sharing their thoughts here. Last month, the interviewee was Aussie blogger, always dapper, Ben Galbraith. This month's is 16 year old, super cool, Leon David from Germany.

// Creé una nueva subsección de Stylish dudes. He entrevistado a chavitos buena onda y compartido sus respuestas aquí.

Tell me a little bit about yourself:

I'm a 16 year old, photography obsessed, student from Germany. I also love fahsion (who'd have thought it?), riding my motorcycle and watching movies. Living in Germany, respectively the little town I'm from, is okay. I mean, it's not really bad but also not very good.

Describe an average day of your life:

Uhm, on a school day, I have to get up very early (about 6 am), getting ready, driving to school, doing homework/study, meeting friends and/or take a few photos (mostly for Lookbook.nu) and watching an episode of O.C. California or some such.

What are you really passionate about?

Photography. And fashion.

How do you feel about blogging?

I'm very new with this blog-thing, so I'm never sure in which style I should write or, above all, about what, haha. But I hope to get better and inspire people with my blog.

When did you become invested in fashion; how was that process?

I really don't know. I became invested in fashion about a year ago but I have no idea why. Maybe, becasue I spent more time on websites like Tumblr or Lookbook.nu.

Who would you consider as a stylish dude from this time and why?

I know, that sounds so stereotyped and shitty, but it would be a guy who doesn't care about what people think and tries to find his own style. And he would definitely wear skinny jeans, in my opinion one of the biggest trends of the past decade.

You're really young and have pretty cool style. How's the fashion scene in Germany for guys under 21?

I don't think there is a fashion scene for guys under 21. There's a general fashion scene but I'm not really into it. The only thing I can tell you is that in the past few weeks I had many great conversations, which simply developed via Facebook/Lookbook with boys my age all over Europe.

I really like your photo diaries. What's your main motivation for doing them?

Thank you very much. The answer is, again, my love for photography. I just love trying to capture a city or country I visit with my photography so people get a pure impression of it.

When you're feeling pressured or overwhelmed, what activity helps you re-find your center?

Mostly sleeping, haha, or motorcycling.

What are some of your favourite books, TV series, musicians and artists?

Musicians: Left Boy, The XX, The Kooks, AC/DC, Eminem, Modest Mouse.

Books: The catcher in the Rye; The boy in the striped pajamas.

TV Series: O.C. California, 90210, Gossip Girl, The Big Bang Theory.

Artists: Elliot Erwitt (photographer), Sebastiao Ribeiro Salgado (photographer), Cristoph Schaller (photographer and fashion blogger).

What would you say to someone seeking general fashion advice?

Spend some time on it. Get inspiration on the internet, on the streets, in the stores, in order to find your style

Thank you very much Leon! Be sure to catch him on his blog: Round Metal; or hype/fan him at his Lookbook.nu page. I'm pretty sure he's going to be someone big, real soon!

Mexico's Next Top Model: The finale

You know I'm not the biggest fan of Mexico's Next Top Model right? Well, I couldn't refuse an invitation to see the last episode and meet the winner. The event was held at a local newspaper headquarters and it was really cool. First, the episode was broadcast and then, Mr. Antonio González de Cosio a.k.a. my new favourite person of the Mexican fashion industry organized a fashion show with only national brands and designers. Pretty amazing.

After that, I went backstage and met some of the contestants and the eventual winner and Mexico's Next Top Model: Sahily Cordova. She's so pretty and was incredibly sweet (I think I got a crush on her, hehe). Seeing that the winner is a genuine and nice girl makes me happy.

And with her victory, another cycle of MxNTM closes and hopefully it will bring tons of success for Sahily and also for the judges. Just because the show itself isn't good (on my personal opinion) doesn't mean that the people working in it aren't incredibly talented. They truly are. Thanks again, Antonio, for inviting me, you're the best!

I look really weird on the photo on the right, don't I?

X, Hen.

H&Mmmm Part II: The pre-sale

Today is November 15th, which means officialy everyone has access to the Maison Martin Margiela collection for H&M (I like to call it H&Mmmm emphasizing the 'mmm' part). Earlier this week I posted my visit to the showroom and now I'm sharing some photos of the pre-sale that was conducted on tuesday.

It was a very concurred evening (although not so crowded as the store in a weekend. YIKES!). I was able to invite someone to join me and my sweet sister was the chosen one. We spent most of our night choosing clothes, chatting and drinking our weight in champagne. IT WAS BEAUTIFUL.

Since I already talked about the collection, I just want to say that the event was very well organized, the snacks were awesome and the staff was really kind. The store had a 20% off everything and I bought a couple of items (a H&Mmmm piece included, I'll not say which, you'll have to stay tuned!).

Thanks again H&M for inviting me!

Can you give me a hand?
This jewel of a dress isn't a part of the H&MMMM collection but it was definitely a scene-stealer for me (and it's available at the kids section, hehe)
I love you sis!
Did you buy anything from H&Mmmm yet? Are you planning to?

H&Mmmm showroom

And there I was, white walls, white flowers, even white food; yeah, it was the H&M Maison Martin Margiela showroom that happened to be two blocks away from my office. I must say that, even when the collection is a little crazy for my taste, the event was quite cool. I got a free mimosa, hehe.

I think the overall collection is all about opulence and a certain ostentatious lifestyle, I mean there's fur everywhere, metallic disco pieces, leather, thick wool garments and silky ones. If the pieces weren't super expensive (at least for my budget) I'd buy a couple of things, like the red sneakers, the shirt with the untied bow tie and the gold silk t-shirt. They were my favourite items.

Back to the actual event, I must say it was pretty well organized, the drinks and snacks were awesome (I ate lots of pastries) and the place looked great with the white decorations. My highlight of the day was meeting Mexican fashion editor Antonio González de Cosío, he's currently a judge on the crappy Mexico's Next Top Model (it's so bad, it's actually good) but, I mean, the guy is really talented and he was incredibly nice and down to earth. He's cool, yo.

Seriously, look at him. He's a rockstar (with rockstar shoes)
// And well, the other highlight was receiving two little gifts: a notebook á-la-Moleskine and one of the MMM pieces: the enlarged watch frame bracelet (pictured above with the accessories). Overall, it was a great event, it was pretty cool to go and see what's going on with H&M and its power arrival on Mexico.

I hate mirror self-portraits but I really didn't know anybody and couldn't ask for help more than once.
Hope you enjoyed this inside look at H&Mmmm, Hen.

Sylish dudes: Ben Galbraith

So, here's the deal. I'm launching a new sub-section for Stylish dudes, in which I'll interview some cool guys and share their thoughts here. Last month the interviewee was Mexican blogger, living in the UK, Ivam Kent. This month's is dapper Australian blogger: Ben Galbraith.

Tell me a little bit about yourself:

Im a 23 year old guy from Adelaide, Australia. I am the creative director of www.merrinandgussy.com

Describe an average day of your life:

Pretty normal really... Get up... Go to work... Etcetera. When I’m not working, you can pretty much always find me drawing, taking photos, making short films or online playing various games.

When did you discover that you were passionate about design and photography? How was that process?

I have always been interested in art and creativity ever since I was young.

How do you feel about blogging (in general) and, blogging about fashion?

Hard question really... I probably don't take it quite as seriously as I should. I pretty much wear what I would on any given day of the week and photograph it quickly.

When did you become invested in fashion, how was that process?

I've always been interested in fashion and personal style and I’ve always found menswear and fashion really fascinating.

Who would you consider as a stylish dude from this time (say 2005-2012) and why?

A stylish person can be anyone really. I personally don't think there should be differences between those with style or those without... Because everyone has moments of being stylish and moments where they are not.

You’re always perfectly dressed up. At what age did you make the decision of ditching the cotton t-shirts and sneakers and embracing the dress shoes and suits? What was your motivation?

It might sound funny... but I never was into the t-shirt/sneakers combo. I love suits.

I really like the videos that usually go along with your outfit posts. What inspires you to make them?

Anything really... I often start with an amazing piece of music and go from there.

When you’re feeling pressured or overwhelmed, what activity helps you re-find your center?

I play A LOT of PC games... I'll always relax most nights with some mates and just play for a while.

What are you currently listening; reading and; watching on TV/internet?

As of this moment right now I am watching a video of a cat wearing a Mexican outfit... Amazing.

What advice can you give to bloggers who are starting their websites but don't get much exposure?

Work hard at your blog. Like it or not, you are creating a source of entertainment, no different from a magazine or newspaper. Always try and have fun writing your blog and being part of the blogging community, your readers will enjoy it a lot more!

You can check out Ben on his blog, give him a "Like" on Facebook, follow him on Twitter, hype him in Lookbook.nu (he's the featured blogger this month) or purchase something from his online store
