Late Nights

Life Journal 59
Some people function better with a tight schedule, they go and do their everyday activities following a routine and a schedule selected by others, thinking that they have full control of their time and their lives. That's a lie. Even when they have their own thing going on, when they're not part of that system, they're still part of the system, because they depend on others to get things done, it doesn't matter how much in control they want to feel.

Some people function better at night, when others are sleeping; they think they concentrate in their tasks without distractions from outside (that's also a lie, they usually get distracted by their own minds). At night, when it's dark and quiet, when individuals are not supposed to be awake and yet they are; they work through late nights and lose the early mornings, they trade hours with people they haven't even met, with beings that aren't even there.

I stress out, I freak out, then I stress out even more... It's not a winning combo, you guys. I'm not a happy-go-lucky kind of guy but I also don't want to have all this angst inside, it's almost as if the right balance is unreachable for me, that's not okay. I feel like we all come to this world with a purpose and finding mine has been a little tough, it's not like I'm curing some horrible decease or working my way up in politics; I haven't achieved fame or changed the world... YET.

That's the thing, for some time, I haven't been able to see what's in front of me, I've only been dreaming about the things that could and couldn't be, of how some people have done way more in a shorter amount of time, I guess we all have some sort of crisis when it comes to stuff like that and it's okay, sure, but it's important to start doing something about it.

Taking things easy has been this month's theme and I now realise that it's not just about relaxing and chilling, it's about learning how to walk slowly and steadily to the top, about putting one foot in front of the other until it's clear that you've reached a good place. That's what I need to do from now on, make sure that I'm moving forward, even if they're all small steps. It's very appropriate that, if I'm talking about walking, I'm wearing my new favourite boots in these photos, they're from Frank Wright and they're awesome, so make sure to check out their new arrivals, okay?

5 tips to relax

Wisdom #49 5 Tips to relax
I'm that guy who stresses a lot, haha, so, I'm always looking for ways to relax and take things easy. I'm not always successful but I think I've found a few things that really work and that's why I want to share them with you.

1. Tea: or any hot drink for that matter. Flavours are important but it's the moment you take for yourself that really counts, that means coffee-to-go won't do the trick. Grab your favourite mug, a blanket maybe, sit down and enjoy life for 10-15 minutes.

2. Reading a book before bed: many of us try to sleep but keep looking at our phones, social media keeps us awake. Reading a book eases our brain and helps us conciliate sleep.

3. Baking: I don't know if it's just me but baking relaxes me. For whatever time it takes, prepping, mixing, putting into the oven, those are all nice moments. Plus, the smell of something freshly baked is good for the soul.

4. Writing your goals: or writing almost anything, really. Sometimes when I feel really overwhelmed, I bring out my notebook and write a to-do list. It helps me realise that I can achieve several goals today and leave some for tomorrow, it helps me calm down.

5. Going to the gym: I think most people who exercise will tell you the same, one of the main motivations and pleasures found in exercising is focusing on the workout and nothing else. For a certain amount of time, the only thing that matters is getting through the next set of physical activity.

That's it guys! These are a few of the things I do when I need to relax, I won't lie and say that I always do them perfectly but when I do, they really work. What are your relaxation techniques? Let me know!

Love always,
Henry.

Little Things 5
Sometimes it's hard to remember how good and fun the little things can be; you know, a nice walk in the park, visiting a museum, having lunch with a new friend. These are all things we take for granted, that we don't value as much as the big-fancy-events in our lives and I think that we should treasure them just as much; if we were vehicles, those would be the fuel, without small doses of happiness and tranquility I think we would all, pretty much, crash and burn.

I stress out, a lot, it's natural to me. I tend to panic and feel frustrated when things don't go the way I plan; therefore, I forget to enjoy those little moments I'm talking about. I hardly go out and explore new places within the city and as much as I love hanging out with my friends, I don't value that time the way I should; again, I take it all for granted and that's not okay. It's time to change that.

Who knows how long we'll have in this planet, if I learned one thing this year, is that life can come and go in a second, leaving nothing behind, no more second chances, no more little things. I need to start appreciating the time I have, the people that surround me and making the most of that. That's why I wanna do a tiny experiment, I'll try to value all the good stuff that happens around me for seven days and see if my life (overall) improves. What do you think? Are you up for the challenge?

Have you started to live your dreams?

Wisdom #48 Live Your Dreams
Dreams are one of the most important things we have, they're the fuel that propels us to reaching out for the stars, to go far, to not give up. We all dream of something: becoming famous, success, having a family, travelling the world... You name it... The thing is, how many of us are actually working towards them? To start living the any part of our dreams? Because, even the planning of a dream counts as part of it.

It's easy to give up and feel defeated, I've been there, I'm sure you've been there too. Life is hard and unpredictable but even when it deals a tough hand, the only thing you're always in control of is how you react to the circumstances thrown around you. It's about trying hard, taking a stand for yourself, because you can either be a mark or make a mark and you're the one who decides what you'll be. So, get out there and start living your dreams instead of waiting for them to magically come true, okay?

Henry.

Fall and winter are my favourite seasons of the year; at times, one tops the other but, generally, they're tied. I'm a city boy, I love how busy cities are and all the things that are happening all the time, big cities are restless, they never sleep, there's always something going on. During fall and winter, people change according to the weather, everything becomes colder, nostalgia fills the air.

It's almost like we're preparing for the end of another year, starting to realise the things we did and didn't do and how can we make the most of what's left of the year. Usually, around this time, I start to get really stressed about a million things, I never manage to take it easy during November and December and, as much as I'd like this to be different, it seems that the feeling of running out of time doesn't go away that easily.

I wish my life could be a bit more smooth, like chocolate, with a rich texture and a nice flavour but, most of the time, it's not. I always struggle, it's in my nature. I don't like the idea of taking advantage of others or cheating my way through life and that comes with a price. I was talking about this with a friend the other day and I guess the most important thing (in the long run) is that someday I'll wake up, look in the mirror and be satisfied with the person I see staring back at me... Trust me, my friends, not everyone will be able to do that in the future.

Cake & Bake Masters

cake and bake masters
cake and bake masters 5

Just Desserts 6
"Just desserts" is a phrase that I like very much; it means that someone gets what's coming to them, they get what they deserve. I believe in karma, in chained reactions, if you do good deeds, good things will come to you and viceversa. Life works in mysterious ways and sometimes we might feel like it's unfair, especially when we see people doing bad things and not getting any sort of punishment for that.

Sometimes we take justice into our own hands, we skip the whole karma process and make an effort to right the wrongs; now, I'm not saying that's bad (because I'm also a firm believer in doing what feels right and fighting for justice) but this usually ends up with us getting our hands dirty, it gets messy. Nowadays, I'm trying really hard to take things easy and just let life balance everything out, I think that's helping me feel at ease and less stressed. If there's nothing you can do to change a situation, then step aside and let time handle it.

I want to think that people who take advantage of others, who are shady and skip ahead, will eventually find themselves paying for their actions. Everything, and I mean every single thing, in this life comes with a price, no one's exempt from that, there's always this principle of equivalent exchange roaming around, everything has its own cost... It's up to us to decide if we're going to directly intervene in a situation with a person or if we're going to stay in the bleachers and watch him/her get their just desserts; it's a matter of convenience, cleverness and being rational enough to choose the right battles to fight.

Let's take it easy during November...

November Take It Easy Drama, drama, drama...

The past month and a half has been filled with drama and unpleasant events (I mean, not 100% unpleasant, but the majority of them have been like that). After the earthquake that hit Mexico City, I had a hard time reincorporating to my daily life, to the new normal, but I think I'm finally on the right track, I feel like I'm heading towards a good spot. October taught me a lot about myself, about the people I surround myself with and it was a draining month. Now I want to take it easy for November, you know?

I've always been a control freak, I can't help that (I'm improving, tho), but it feels nice to sit back and relax, to stop taking life so seriously. I tend to think too much and overanalyse life so, it's important to take a break every now and then, stretch our bodies and minds and enjoy the simple things, like a cup of tea, a drinking session with friends or a good nap, haha. This month won't revolve around the concept of "taking it easy", I want it to be more of a mood, a feeling that will permeate every post that goes live in here.

If things go in the right direction, this November might be the month that changes everything for me. I have personal projects that are about to come through (I won't spoil anything yet, just because I'm afraid if I say something, then things won't flow and won't happen) but I will say that interesting and good things are finally coming my way. I hope that reflects on my professional life as well. What do you say? Will you join my "resting period" and take things nice and easy for the next couple of weeks? I hope you do. Remember you can catch this month's playlist by clicking here, I think you'll like it (:

Everything changes in the blink of an eye...

Drama, drama, drama...

Mucho amor,
