Summer Inevitably Turns To Fall.

There is a sweetness in the air when summer ends and fall begins. Since this month is about transition, I thought that the editorial should reflect that. 
This is my attempt to capture the essence of ending summer turning into autumn.

Fashion's Night Out '13: Seoul

This year, I feel really lucky because I was able to go to Vogue Fashion's Night Out in Seoul, South Korea. I have a new set of friends who joined me for this occasion and it was really, really cool. FNO has a completely different vibe comparing it to Mexico. I don't know if it was because we were foreigners or because I drank 12 glasses of champagne (TRUE STORY). In South Korea there's 2 places to go: Myeong-dong and the Shinsegae Department Store (which has 14 floors).

So we went pretty early and the first store we crossed was H&M. It was the official presentation of the H&M Design Award for 2013 winner Minju Kim's collection. The pieces are sick, like super cool and out of this world. They look amazing. Unfortunately they weren't up for sale, but I'm pretty sure they're gonna be soon.

Afterwards we went to Forever 21, nothing special and Zara, where I had my first 5-6 glasses of champagne. Haha. When the streets of Myeong-Dong weren't enough, we decided to go to Shinsegae. I, playing my part as an international fashion blogger, walked the red carpet and actually had my photo taken like a hundred times. It felt AMAZING. Inside we went to Coach, where they gave us more champagne and gifts, Burberry (more champagne), Marc by Marc Jacobs (delicious lemonade and cartoon drawing) and Theory (incredible photo studio). I think we went to some other place where we had pop-corn and gummy bears but I was kinda drunk by that point so I don't really remember where that was. Anyways, I did a feature for each of my 3 favourite places so you can see how was it like:

// Este año, me siento muy afortunado porque pude asistir al Vogue Fashion's Night Out en Seúl, Corea del Sur. Tengo un nuevo equipo de amigos que se unieron a mí para la ocasión y estuvo bien, bien, padre. FNO tiene una vibra muy diferente comparada con la mexicana. No sé si es porque éramos extranjeros o porque tomé 12 copas de champagne (NO MIENTO). En Corea del Sur hay dos lugares para ir: Myeong-Dong y la Shinsegae Department Store (que tiene 14 pisos).

Así que fuimos desde temprano y la primera tienda con que nos cruzamos fue H&M. Era la presentación oficial de la colección ganadora del H&M Design Award 2013, de Minju Kim. Las piezas están súper locas y padres, fuera de este planeta. Se ven increíbles. Desafortunadamente, no estaban a la venta pero estoy seguro que pronto lo estarán. 

Después fuimos a Forever 21, nada especial y Zara, donde tomé mis primeras 5-6 copas de champagne. JAJA. Cuando las calles de Myeong-Dong no fueron suficiente, decidimos ir a Shinsegae. Yo, como blogger internacional de moda que soy, caminé por la alfombra roja y, para mi sorpresa, fui tomado en serio y me fotografiaron cientos de cámaras. Sentí cosas magníficas. Adentro, fuimos a Coach, donde nos dieron más champagne y regalitos, Burberry (más champagne), Marc by Marc Jacobs (limonada deliciosa y nos dibujaron en caricatura) y Theory (con un estudio de fotos bien padre). Creo que fuimos a alguna otra tienda donde comimos palomitas y gomitas pero estaba medio borracho a esas alturas y no me acuerdo de qué lugar fue. En fin, recopilé mis tres lugares favoritos para que vean más o menos cómo fue:
Overall, it was really amazing. I enjoyed every minute of it and I'm sure I'm going to remember and treasure this memories for the rest of my life. By the way, being foreigner in Asia rocks. People automatically give you A-List star treatment.

// En resumen, fue increíble, disfruté cada minuto y estoy seguro que recordaré y atesoraré estas memorias por el resto de mi vida. Por cierto, ser extranjero en Asia es lo máximo. La gente te trata como celebridad muy top.

I've always found stairways to be very poetic. I think, in all ways, they represent going from some place to another. You guessed correctly: Transitioning, the theme for September. Everytime I see a staircase, can't help it, I need to know where it goes. I guess I really like the idea and visual aspect of steps. This one is part of a monument in Mexico City and I loved the contrast between my outfit and the grayness of the construction.

This studded vest is one of the pieces I want to keep in my closet forever. It's an amazing statement piece and I love it with all of my heart. It's from H&M, the spring '13 collection (you know? The one with all the pineapples, haha). I created a black/off white/gray look to make it pop even more. Black and off-white (or cream/beige) is, probably, my favorite colour combination. And I think it suits me well. 

My hair looks really, really pink in these photos. It usually looks like that during the first few days after re-dying it. Give it ten more days and it will be as blonde as Andy Warhol's. It's nice to be able to go from pink to blonde to any colour you can think of, it all depends on my mood. In a way, my hair is a staircase to my mood. It's transitioning according to my current state of mind. 

// Siempre he sentido que hay algo muy poético en las escaleras. Creo que, en cualquier forma, representan ir de un lado hacia otro. Adivinaron: Transición, el tema de septiembre. Cada que veo una escalera, no puedo evitarlo, necesito saber hacia dónde va. Supongo que realmente me gusta la idea y aspecto visual de los escalones. Ésta es parte de un monumento en la Ciudad de México y me encantó el contraste entre mi atuendo y lo grisáceo de la construcción.

El chaleco con tachuelas es una de esas piezas que quiero tener en mi armario por siempre. Tiene mucha personalidad y lo amo con todo mi corazón. Es de H&M, la colección de primavera 2013 (¿ya saben? Esa que tiene muchas piñas, jaja). Creé un atuendo negro/blanco sucio/gris para hacer que resalte aún más. Negro con blanco sucio (o crema/beige) es, probablemnte, mi combinación de colores favorita. Y creo que me sienta bien.

Mi cabello se ve muy, muy, rosa en estas fotos. Usualmente es así los primeros días después de re-teñirlo. Dénle diez días más y será tan rubio como el de Andy Warhol. Es padre poder ir de rosa a rubio a cualquier color que se me ocurra, todo depende de mi humor. En cierta forma, mi cabello es la escalera a mi humor. Transiciones de acuerdo con mi estado de ánimo.

Melrose Place (feat. Tally & Hoe).

I'm wearing:

So, Melrose Place really exists! As I mentioned on earlier posts, I traveled to Los Angeles and went to Melrose Boulevard, which is a really cool fashion-related street. The only 'Melrose' reference I had then was Melrose Place, you know? That show from the 90's. And, it turns out, it's real. Like REAL REAL. I thought it was made up for the show but it wasn't. Not gonna lie, for some strange reason, I was a little excited, haha.

In different news, I've worked with the UK jewellery brand Tally & Hoe before and their team sent me a really cool necklace. It's called All-Seeing Eye Necklace and that's pretty literal, haha. It's a huge eye in a golden mirror. I like it a lot. I'm a fan of mirrors and gold so it was a great combo for me. This is part of the new Tally & Hoe collection, for a closer look to the rest of the pieces, visit Tally & Hoe's website and find some cool stuff! With the all-seeing eye vibe in mind, I decided to shoot the photos in front of a graffiti version of Superman (I'm a huge Superman fan) that had its eyes enhanced.

Overall, I think this trip was a great one. It's definitely a point of transition for me. I feel like you're always going to remember your first international trip and, in some ways, it changes you. I feel more independent now and, being able to survive in a country with a different language and rules, mentally stronger.

// ¡Y resulta que Melrose Place sí existe! Como mencioné en posts anteriores, viajé a Los Ángeles y fui a Melrose Boulevard, una calle bien padre con muchas cosas relacionadas con moda. La única referencia de "Melrose" que tenía en ese entonces era Melrose Place, ¿ya saben? Ese programa de los 90's. Pues es real, en serio, real, real. Creí que se lo habían inventado para la serie pero no. No mentiré, por alguna razón, me emocioné un poquito.

En otras noticias, he trabajado con la marca británica de joyería Tally & Hoe antes y el equipo me mandó un collar buena onda. Se llama "All Seeing Eye Necklace, y es muy literal, haha. Es un gran ojo sobre un espejo dorado. Me gusta mucho. Soy fan de lo dorado y de los espejos, fue un gran combo para mi. Él es parte de la nueva colección de Tally & Hoe, para un vistazo más específico, ¡visiten el sitio web de Tally & Hoe y encuentren cosas padres! Con la idea del ojo que todo lo ve, decidí tomar las fotos frente a un Superman de graffiti que tenía súper ojos, jaja (soy muy fan de Superman).

Al final de cuentas, creo que este viaje fue muy bueno. Definitivamente funge como un punto de transición para mí. Siento que la gente siempre va a recordar su primer viaje internacional y, en cierta forma, te cambia. Me siento más independiente ahora y, al ser capaz de sobrevivir en un país con otro idioma y costumbres, mentalmente más fuerte.

The OutTakes (Collaboration with Giant Vintage Sunglasses).



There are times when I do the usual photo shoot and some pictures don't make it to the final version of my posts, even when they're great, because they don't necessarily fit the brief I was going for. I thought that compiling some of those photos would look great for my most recent collaboration with Giant Vintage Sunglasses.

Let me tell you a little bit about this brand; they have hundreds of vintage and retro sunglasses, and the pricing starts as low as 5 dollars. That's incredible. You can find a style for any occasion, literally. I chose a couple of frames and each has its own vibe. My favourites are the Om Noms (pictured right below), I just really love the shape and the color combination.

The idea behind Giant Vintage is affordable, really cool, sunglasses and it doesn't disappoint. They offer worldwide shipping and there are new models every time you go to their website. Who said the out-takes aren't cool? Especially if you have a special idea behind them!

// A veces sucede que hago mis sesiones de fotos de siempre y algunas fotos quedan fuera de la versión final de la publicación, aún cuando están bien padres, porque no necesariamente encajan con el brief por el que iba. Se me ocurrió que compilar algunas de ellas se vería buena onda para mi más reciente colaboración con Giant Vintage Sunglasses.

Les cuento un poco de la marca; tienen cientos de lentes retro y clásicos, y los precios empiezan tan bajos como 5 dólares. Eso es increíble. Pueden encontrar un estilo para toda ocasión, literalmente, hay algo para cada cosa. Yo elegí unos cuantos y cada uno de ellos posee su propia vibra. Mis favoritos son los Om Noms (mostrados en las primeras fotos hacia abajo), en serio me gusta la forma y la combinación de colores. 

La idea detrás de Giant Vintage es tener lentes costeables que estén muy padres, y no decepciona. Ofrecen envío internacional y hay nuevos modelos cada vez que entran al sitio web. ¿Quién dijo que las tomas descartadas no eran buena onda? ¡Especialmente si hay una idea clara tras ellas!

Brantano Fall & Winter 2013/2014.

Last week, Brantano released their fall & winter collection for the press. It was a pretty cool event at an art gallery that just fitted the idea of the collection perfectly. I like to call it the "Farm meets City" collection because I really feel like that's what it does. They take inspiration from folkloric pieces, cowboy styles and mix them up with really glamourous ideas. 

The men's collection is like a cool farmer moving to the city (like Alo, from Skins). He keeps his boots, plaid shirts and jeans but adds a leather jacket and some fitted clothing to his wardrobe. It's badass, it's fun. On the other hand, the ladies' collection has more of a folkish vibe, with prints, textures and leather but it clashes and meets the city life by adding super high heels or simply gives the country touch to really urban styles.

I also used photos from their newest campaign because they never fail to amaze. The quality is top-notch and everything looks great. Nice job, Brantano creative team! 

// La semana pasada, Brantano presentó su colección para otoño e invierno. Fue un evento buena onda en una galería de arte que encaja perfectamente con la idea detrás de la colección. Me gusta llamarla la colección en que "la granja conecta con la ciudad" porque en serio creo que eso hace. Tomaron inspiración de piezas folclóricas, estilos vaqueros y los combinaron con ideas más glamourosas.

La colección de hombre es como un granjero buena onda que se muda a la ciudad (como Alo de Skins). Guarda sus botas, camisas de cuadros y jeans pero añade una chamarra de piel y ropa ajustada a su guardarropa. Es rebeldón, se divierte. Por el otro lado, la colección de mujer tiene una vibra más folclórica, con los estampados, texturas y cuero pero constrasta y conecta con la ciudad al añadir tacones súper altos o, por otro lado, le da una vibra campirana a estilos muy urbanos.

También usé fotos de la campaña más reciente porque nunca fallan en asombrarme. La calidad está a la altura de cualquier marca internacional de zapatos y todo se ve muy bien. ¡Buen trabajo, equipo creativo de Brantano!

L.A. Photo Journal. Final Part: Friends.

On trips like this, where I was alone almost the whole time, you find that company is really underrated. I'm a lone wolf, that's true. But the best days of L.A. were those with friends. Sure it's fun to try on that 2000 dollars viking sweater at Vivienne Westwood if you're going by yourself but hearing "You look like an Asian emperor" from a friend is much better.

At the Lookbook party, I met tons of nice people and when they asked to see me again, I was genuinely thrilled. My new friends (Camay & Andy) took me to Melrose Avenue, a really interesting street. The west part is full of thrift stores, toy shops and plain weird stuff. Haha. Sadly, I couldn't find anything there, I thought it was very overpriced. And the East side is really fancy, the designer stores are there and the vibe on the street feels completely different. It was so much fun.

Later, near the end of this trip, a friend from Mexico arrived (with some of her friends) and we saw each other a couple times to shop a little and have lunch. It was so much fun to have people to talk to after 2 weeks of being by myself. I'm really gonna treasure those days in my heart. Forever.

These Boots Are Made For Walking (Frank Wright 2700 Collab)

Over the past few months, Frank Wright has become one of my favourite shoe brands. This is one of those times when great quality match great designs. They recently released a new premium line called 2700 (pronounced two seven hundred) and it's just amazing. The colors are neutral: black, brown and ginger and that allows people to wear the shoes with pretty much everything. These babies are called Connaught St. Ginger Suede Lace-Up Boots and were sent to me just before my birthday; I was super excited and anxious to wear them. 

I chose to style them with my new/not-so-new-'cause-it's-thrifted aviator jacket, which I got in my recent L.A. trip from Buffalo Exchange (the coolest thrift store ever); a simple striped t-shirt underneath because I wanted to balance the heaviness of the jacket; black skinny jeans, because YOLO and; brown and ginger coloured accessories. It was a pretty cold day, I must mention, I was freezing.

What do you think about my new boots? I just love them, there's no other word for it. They're super comfortable, they're really made for walking, haha; I feel a deep connection to them and they're probably my current favourite shoes. // En los últimos meses, Frank Wright se ha convertido en una de mis marcas favoritas de zapatos. Esta es una de esas ocasiones en que gran calidad empata con gran diseño. Recientemente sacaron una nueva colección más premium, llamada 2700 (pronunciada "two seven hundred) y está bien padre. Los colores son muy neutrales: negro, café, café claro y eso permite que la gente pueda usar los zapatos con prácticamente cualquier cosa. Estos encantos se llaman Connaught St. Ginger Suede Lace-Up Boots y me los enviaron poquito antes de mi cumpleaños; por supuesto no podía esperar para usarlos.

Elegí estilarlos con mi nueva/no-tan-nueva-porque-es-usada chamarra de aviador, que conseguí en mi más reciente viaje a L.A. en Buffalo Exchange (la tienda de segunda mano más padre que vi); una playera de rayas sencilla abajo porque quería balancear la pesadez de la chamarra; jeans entubados negros porque YOLO y; accesorios en café. Estaba haciendo mucho frío ese día, me congelaba un poco.

¿Qué piensan de las botas nuevas? YO LAS AMO, no hay otra palabra para describir mis sentimientos. Son súper cómodas, en serio están hechas para caminar (en español no es tan chistoso ): ) Siento una conexión intensa con ellas. Creo que son mis nevas botas favoritas, jaja.
