I feel like sometimes we pressure and get too pressured to achieve things in the fastest way possible. Like, say, breaking up with someone and jumping right back into the dating world or finishing a work project only to follow up with another just as big... We put a lot of pressure on our shoulders and, in the long run, that might make us crumble and fall apart.

I remember watching an episode of Skins where a teacher says something like "passing an exam generally only makes life more complicated" after Cassie asks: "do you think passing an exam will make me happy?", and that thought haunts me to this very day, haha. Life gets more complicated as we move forward and I feel like we're rushed into becoming something, being successful, it's almost like we have to be prepared and ready at any moment for every single challenge that comes our way and that generates stress, anxiety, a billion terrible things.

I've learned that, as much as we feel like superheroes, we can't do it all, we can't have it all and, this is really important, we can't be ready for every possible scenario or situation, and that's okay. Yes, it's okay to not feel ready for our future, it's important to stop, think and really strategize what our next move will be. Sometimes, when you rush into things, they blow up in your face so, step back, have a serious chat with yourself, establish your priorities and only move when you feel like you're ready. Take as much as time as you have to carefully assess a situation before tackling it; there will be a much higher chance of ending up victorious.

Why is EUPHORIA a relevant show in 2019?

euphoria
Is it the amazing crazy make up? The racial diversity in its cast? Maybe. Euphoria is this fairly recent show from HBO and I like to refer to it as the new Skins, because I see some similarities between the two (although I think Skins had way better character development and plot lines), yet I still got super excited after hearing that Euphoria would be airing. I like Zendaya but I don't necessarily love her character (Rue); after watching the whole season, I realised that I don't have a favourite character, there's something I like about everyone and something I heavily dislike too.

But going back to the title of this post, why is Euphoria relevant? Sure, it has some dazzling scenes, I love how it's filmed, edited, directed and all that, but I think that the main reason why Euphoria is gaining momentum is because it's current, like, nudes are our currency current, haha; one of the main characters (Jules) is a trans girl and I love how that doesn't even matter, it's just there; they mostly talk about sexuality as an spectrum where no one is 100% one thing and they say it in such a casual way, I find that very refreshing.

A few of the plot lines are very strange and some characters are not developed that well; I think if you're very strict and have a black or white kind of personality, you might not like this show; if you're a very conservative person, you might not like this show; if you're very extravagant, you might enjoy it for different reasons (like the fashion or makeup choices)... With this I mean it's not a show for everyone but that's the thing, being more open-minded and learning isn't something everyone can do. So, if you watched it or if you plan to watch it, think about the state of the world in 2019 and how it is portrayed, think about why it feels current and if you don't feel it is, do some digging, some exploring, you might discover something new and different along the way... Oh, by the way, it's been renewed for a second season! (:

// ¿Es el maquillaje tan alocado? ¿La diversidad racial en el elenco? Tal vez.

Love always,
Henry.

being a grown up is not easy 5
I've never been keen on growing up, call me Peter Pan or whatever, but I somehow thought that adult life would be easier than it has been so far. It's not that I have it all bad, I'm luckier than tons of people out there, yet, I feel incomplete when it comes to my professional life. I've been blogging, posting videos on Youtube, curating and nurturing social media platforms, for a long time and I really like what I do, it's true, I've always envisioned myself as being a part of the entertainment industry and while I've had some accomplishments, I'm nowhere near where I want to be.

I've been struggling a lot more these past few months because it seems like, no matter what I do, I can't get paid for what I do. If I tell how much I've made in 2019, you'd be shocked because, well, it's not a lot. As creators we keep creating content for our audiences, with free access, but said creations don't come for free for us. I invest most of my money in this platform because I want to make a name for myself but sometimes I start asking myself: is it all worth it? As much as I love producing material, is it really making a difference?

I was reading an article today that said something like: being a freelancer is hard for people who don't come from an affluent background or have other sources of income, and it really resonated with me because it is me, you know? I'm not privileged, I'm not extremely good looking nor super well connected to powerful people, I'm just average in this industry and that means I have to work harder than the others who belong into the previous categories I mentioned. It also sucks that no matter how much effort I put in, no matter how meticulous I am, the results are measured by people who are not me. So, at least in here, talent, efforts, style, intelligence... These don't guarantee success, we depend on others to achieve that and, pardon my French, that fucking sucks.

August: Endings & Beginnings

August Endings and Beginnings It had to end, otherwise it was forever...

Growing up scares me, it's always been this way. Since I was 14 or so, I've had this "Peter Pan complex" where the whole idea of getting older makes me really uncomfortable. After that, a few years later, I thought that remaining 19 forever would be a great thing, 19 was just the sweet spot for me during that time... Then I thought about being legal everywhere in the world and opted for 21, just because it was more convenient than 19...

Clearly, life doesn't work that way and I think it's important to learn how to end things before starting new chapters in our lives. Certain things I had or did when I was 19, 21 (and even younger than that) still make me feel nostalgic. In some ways, I feel like I was more intelligent back then (because I hadn't graduated from Uni yet); in others, of course, I feel like I'm more mature and have grown up quite a bit: getting older has never (and I think will never be) an easy thing to accept for me and yet; time doesn't stop for anyone, things end, things begin.

I might be feeling like this because it's August and my birthday is just around the corner; I love my birthday, it's a big big deal for me but somehow, I don't feel like doing much of a celebration this year, maybe it's because nothing great, worth of a celebration, has happened and I'm feeling a bit stuck, I don't really know... Maybe thinking about the things that have ended and the new possibilities that might come will help, that's why I chose this theme for August: endings, beginnings, hellos and goodbyes. I hope something interest comes out of this, haha.
