All things must come to an end, otherwise they'd be forever and that's not right on any level. I know that I've been back in Mexico for a while but I snapped too many photos during my trip to Sacramento, so many that it still seems like I'm there (and not just on the blog or on social media, I think a piece of my heart decided to stay in the US). But this is the final outfit shoot I did over there, the final stop.

I already talked about going to the city Sacramento and how cool that place is; snapping my final outfit shoot near the train tracks felt appropriate to say goodbye to the city. Goodbyes, as I always say, aren't easy and this trip definitely changed something inside me, it made me a different person. Lately I've been realising (more than ever) that everything comes with a price, evolution is no exception and, I don't know about you but, I think the knowledge you get from traveling isn't cheap.

The first time you go somewhere everything's new, you're a rookie, those trips are filled with surprises, good and bad experiences that make you appreciate everything around you. As you go back to certain places, the feelings you get change, you start to see things for what they really are, no longer veiled by freshness but accentuated by their true essence. I miss being in Sacramento and my mind has been all over the place since I got back... Maybe the thing I miss the most isn't the place, maybe it's the idea of going away without looking back. Every train has a final stop and although this might look like it, I know deep in my heart that it's really not.

Book Club #28: After Dark

Hello best friends! It breaks my heart to realise that I haven't posted a book club post since November, that's unforgivable... And the fact that it's because I haven't read many things since then makes everything a bit worse. The main goal of this section is to prove that you can be into fashion and read more than magazines and self-motivation stuff and I've failed. But hey, life is about comebacks and now I'm here with a really cool book by one author I've been loving lately. Book Club #28 is After Dark, by Haruki Murakami.

// ¡Hola mejores amigos!
Book Club 28 After Dark
Sometimes it's about the structure... In After Dark, Haruki Murakami tells several stories that happen after midnight. In true Murakami's fashion, they firstly appear to have no apparent connection between them but, as each of them progresses, they begin to intertwine and reveal details relevant to understand the whole story better. All of the events occur during the same night and are chronologically written.

I can't honestly tell if the story was the thing that appealed to me when I finished this novel; yes, I've been liking Murakami's work a lot recently but this might not be his finest hour when it comes to a story; however, the way this book unfolds, the way several stories begin to relate to each other, that's what makes it worth reading. It's great that, at first, you think the stories within the novel stand alone but, somehow, they manage to work together and tell something bigger than they would if you could only read one.

As expected with Murakami, there's a peculiar love story that develops throughout the novel; some mysticism and weirdness that happen on a different story and; why not, something related to a violent gang... All happening after the sun goes out an the moon shines brightly in the always intriguing Japan. Out of the three books by Haruki Murakami that I've read, After Dark takes the bronze medal, not because it's bad (because it's actually quite good) but because Kafka On The Shore and Norwegian Wood have more compelling stories. I guess you would have to read the three of them to see if you agree with me, don't you think?

Tons of times in life we get paralysed by fear and that stops us from doing things we actually really want to do. That's completely normal, it's how life works. I've felt that so many times in the past (and every now and then in the present too), and it usually comes with the fact of feeling too unexperienced, too green, and how the different scenarios we're facing intimidate us into not even trying to accomplish a task.

But, you know what? Doors never open if we don't dare to knock, that's an important lesson to learn, even if it sounds extremely obvious. Being a rookie at something is tough, I'm not going to lie, no one likes feeling like they're not good enough, but, if we manage to go through and over that idea, if we dare to jump and, most importantly, if we care sufficiently to try and excel, soon enough we acquire enough experience and actually become seniors at life.

This, as most things in life, is easier said than done. I get intimidated and scared a lot but, as a personal challenge, I'm trying to be fearless and start asking questions, start giving myself the credit I deserve (while still being nice, just a bit less modest) and I think it works. It's about believing that you can be incredible and achieve whatever you set your mind into. Of course, along the way, we learn that we're more suited for some things than others; but the important thing here is to be braver and start knocking on those doors until one opens. Trust me, one will open eventually.

The importance of social media

Wisdom #25 The importance of social media
I was with one of my good friends the other day and we were catching up, you know, like normal people do. Eventually, we got to talk about work and how she went to a job interview and there she was asked about social media, if she thought it was important and stuff like that. They checked her Instagram and Twitter and stuff and told her that she needed to work on them a bit more if she wanted the position she was applying for. It wasn't related to that area in particular but it was a creative job.

Did you ever think that life would come to that? Social media is extremely relevant now and can be a critical factor in decision making and the opportunities you get in life. I don't think it's a bad thing that people are checking candidate's Instagram (and others) to determine if they should hire a person or not because we do spend a lot of time in there, interacting with others, sharing moments. For me, it's part of my every day life and maybe it's time for others to start considering the importance and impact that their social media accounts can have and how to make that repercute positively in everything they do.

Love always,
Henry.

I was talking to this friend the other day as we were about to watch (re-watch for me) a series called Skins. The first season aired on 2007 and, funnily enough, we both agreed that the early 00's don't feel as far ago as the 90s but; in reality, ten years have passed since 2007, that's crazy. Movies like Harry Potter are 16 years old! It's so weird watching "old" shows and only realising they're old because of things like cell phones or computers; if you manage to remove those elements, they still feel current, the world hasn't changed that much if you ignore technology improvements.

But that's the thing, you can't ignore that. So many things are different now, so many things have become retro now because we have much modern options to choose from; for instance, online shopping is taking the world by storm and/or social media is one of many people's go tos as soon as they wake up (take it from a guy that can wake up, check social media and go back to sleep). It's up to us to make the best usage of these new tools and have fun with them. This post is a collaboration I did with Stradivarius and they're newly launched menswear line; I received a promo code to order online (which gave me the whole shopping experience thing) and I chose a couple pieces featured in this outfit.

I'm a huge fan of shopping and I love online shopping as much as I enjoy going to the stores but, for some reason, online shopping feels a bit more special, maybe it has to do with receiving the package and feeling it's like a Christmas present, haha. The quality of Stradivarius' clothing is really similar to Pull & Bear and I really like that; design-wise, they're pieces are a bit safe but I'm hoping they change that and reach certain similarity to the women's collections. Other than that, I was pretty pleased with my shopping experience, shipping was really fast and since I already know my Inditex sizes, I didn't have any trouble with the fit of the garments.

I don't have a Valentine... And that's okay.

Wisdom #25 I Don't Have a Valentine
So, Valentine's Day, huh? That holiday where everything is lovey-dovey, everyone is planning dates, thinking about presents and, maybe for a couple hours, we forget about the bad things happening in the world and allow ourselves to enjoy and treasure a special moment... And, of course, there will also be people who say this is a marketing generated holiday, meant to make people spend money they wouldn't spend otherwise. I prefer the first idea mentioned here.

The thing is, I've never had a proper Valentine's Day because I've never had a girlfriend nor have I been seeing someone during this time of year, so I really don't know anything about the perfect things to do today, maybe that's why I didn't create any special content regarding this. What I do know is that being alone on Valentine's Day might be tough for some people... But it doesn't have to be that way.

Think about it: the more sad or pressured you feel because you don't have a significant other, the more desperate you become and that, my friends, is not attractive at all. So, my best advice if you're like me, the eternal bachelor, is that you lift that weight above your shoulders and relax. Life doesn't end just because you're single, we just have to learn to be okay with being alone and focus on ourselves, becoming our top priority, before thinking about going out with someone else.

Love always,
Henry.

New things are always exciting, don't you think? There's a bit of mystery shrouding everything about them, you never really know what's going to happen and it's always thrilling to see what's behind the curtain. I guess that's where gameshows get their popularity (or got, in the past, I don't know if they're still a thing nowadays, haha), unveiling new things gives us a rush that few things in life can mimic.

But first times can also be scary: it's taking a step into a new world, into unknown territory. One of my favourite mantras lately is that everything in life comes with a price and it's up to us if we want to pay it to get where we think we want to be; experimenting gives us wisdom and knowledge, even when the results aren't always positive, and that's the only way to stop being rookies and start becoming seniors at the different tasks that may come upon our way. We pay the price of gaining experience.

First times are only new once, after that, they become part of our everydayness, we achieve better (or worse) results and keep on doing that until we can't go any further, that's when last times occur. A big lesson life has taught me recently is that you rarely know when last times are happening, that's why it's important to reach out and create as many opportunities to do stuff as we can. We're living in a world where success doesn't just happen overnight, we need to get up, make an effort and fulfil as many dreams and hopes we have within reach, making sure we enjoy the lasts as much as the firsts.

But Why Am I Sad?

I've been struggling with something lately. I'm pretty sure I've discussed this a bit in earlier posts but it's something that's always good to talk about. Have you ever felt sad for no apparent reason? Like, you're okay but one day, this whole set of weird feelings come rushing by and hit you like a tsunami, it's terrible and, most importantly, scary. It's a mix of sadness and anxiety: life seems to move faster but you can't quite catch up and you start to feel like you're left behind.

I've been dealing with that for the last couple of weeks: I mean, it's not like I'm sad or afraid all the time but it's a thing that comes and goes; an old friend once coined this as a foggy period and I kind of liked that analogy. When does it stop? No one really knows. Why am I sad? I can't really tell... I just know that I need to stand strong and endure, foggy periods will eventually go away, they always do... And when that happens, you suddenly see clearer, everything starts making sense again.

// He estado batallando con algo últimamente.

Love always,
Henry.

Even though my mom technically lives in Sacramento (technically being the key word here), she doesn't actually live in the city of Sacramento; but it's okay because she's a 30 minute drive away from there. Fortunately, this time around, I got the chance to properly visit the actual city of Sacramento and, let me tell you: I loved, loved, loved it.

I spent some time in Sacramento and Old Sacramento. The first one is this really cool and hip city with amazing street art, rad restaurants, nice buildings and an overwhelmingly positive vibe; that last thing is quite important because some cities in the world have that friendly air (like Tokyo or Seoul) and some don't (like San Francisco or Las Vegas), and I do like that quality, it makes you feel at ease and safe.

Old Sacramento is amazing, it's this town that was built on top of another one (thanks to a big flood or something like that) and now it's filled with secret passages, underground buildings and cool stuff like that. Being there certainly feels like being transported into a movie, with props everywhere, quirky stores and nice cafés and restaurants. It was amazing to visit such an old town but get this new feel of peace and, I don't know, being there felt right.

February: Rookie VS Senior

February Rookie VS Senior
We're good at many things...

Each of us has a specific set of skills, assets, stuff that makes us special and stand out in life. Some people are born with specific talents: they have a good voice, they're particularly good looking, stuff like that; some hone certain skills and, by practicing, get better and better every day. If needed, we could separate humans in four different categories: rookies, seniors, in development and not interested.

This classification is important because February's theme is about the dynamics between rookies and seniors (I'll also talk about the latter two categories but not as thoroughly). I've been a blogger for quite a while; this website just turned 5 and, along the way, I've met people that fall into the rookie or the senior category. I'm a rookie in many aspects of life but, in others, I can be a senior.

I've been thinking a lot about my strengths and weaknesses, the things that I want to accomplish and, most importantly, plans of action, ways to get where I want to be. I'm at a point in my life where I truly want to make a difference, to give something to the world, even if it's something as trivial as daily entertainment; that's why I'll work really hard and make great content for February, just wait and see. There's also a playlist that goes along with this letter, you can check it out by clicking here or going directly to my YouTube channel.
