Accept it and move on

Wisdom #56 accept it and move on
Memories... They linger on us for a very long time. Sometimes I wish I could work like a computer and select which to keep and which to send to the trash bin but, sadly, life doesn't work like that, human nature doesn't work like that. Some of those memories, and I think it's clear that I'm referring to the painful ones, remain in our brains and come to the surface way more often than they should.

What can we do about that? The answer I find most useful is: accept and move on. You can't change the past and, sometimes, as much as we try to get answers and closure, that doesn't always happen. It's not fair to torture ourselves over something that we can't fix, so we must accept what happened and do our best to move on with our lives. Is it easy? Hell no. Is it possible? I think it is, it just takes time and effort. Luckily, adaptability is also part of our nature, we have to be strong and keep moving forward, remembering, learning, growing...

// Recuerdos...

Love always,
Henry.

4. White sneakers, from Adidas Neo.
5. Rings, from H&M.
Happy Little Pill 3
I've been feeling a bit down these past few days... I've been sick (nothing major), a bit frustrated and, also, a bit sad. Bits of everything, huh? Haha. Does it ever happen to you? You get these weird feelings that make you nauseous and you just want to stop feeling, make everything stop, feel numbed, calm, at ease... It's not about feeling happy or being bright and shiny, I've never been like that to begin with, but I wish I could take a pill that would just make me stop caring about certain things.

I'm well liked, I think... I rarely have any trouble or conflict with others, and when that happens it's mostly due to misunderstandings. I don't know if I'm too nice or too approachable, I've been thinking lately that I might be, and people feel like there's nothing exciting to see anymore and leave. I've built up a front that might be interesting for some, that creates an alluring aura but, for some reason, when I let them see beyond that, I lose face, I lose appeal and, whether I like it or not, it affects me, it makes me feel empty.

I'm sure there must be something I can do about this, I just need to figure it out. Human nature works like that sometimes, you see something shiny and you want to reach it but when you're too close, it loses some of its sparkle, you get bored and move on to the next captivating thing. So, unless I find a happy little pill that numbs me, I have to think long and hard about how can I stop this from happening or, even better, how can I let it not affect me. Any suggestions?

¿Alguna idea?

#Unfollow

Wisdom #55 #unfollow
Social media has given us so much these past few years, it has given me a job, tons of opportunities, insights on places and people, but it has also given me some bad things: anxiety, confusion, anger... I guess it's a mixed bag and you have to accept it all, the good and the bad. I wanna focus this post on Instagram, it's incredible how many "relationships" we start and end everyday over there, I made great friends on Instagram, I've also witnessed some nasty folks being mean... Like I said, a mixed bag.

I have this thing on my Instagram that unfollows users that don't follow me (I've never been a huge fan of anyone, I don't follow celebrities and such) and sometimes I wonder why I haven't seen someone's posts (or stories) in a while, so, I go to their profiles and notice that I don't follow them anymore, which means that they unfollowed me first and, for some reason, I feel a certain sickness in my stomach, like a punch.

It specially hurts when it's someone that I thought was my friend (or that I feel like I could be friends with), someone that I've been talking to. It always confuses me; did I do something wrong? did I say the wrong thing? Truth is, in most cases, I'll never know. So, I have to move on. I once had a pen-pal who stopped replying and that hurt, a lot, I guess when a person I'm friends with (or attempt to be) unfollows me on Instagram, it's kind of the same thing (in a smaller scale), something I'll never understand but one that still kicks me in the gut and leaves a bruise behind.

Siempre me confunde: ¿hice algo mal? ¿dije algo inapropiado?
Love always,
Henry.

First Impressions 6
I went out with my best friend today and we we're talking about how important looks can be, and I mean that in the best possible way. The way you look lets you state something without having to actually say a word, it allows you to project certain things about you and, let's face it, it can open or close some doors for you.

Fashion is a way of expression, no matter how shallow that might sound, and it's up to us to take full advantage of that. You have no idea how many times being well-dressed or having something standing out (positively) about my look has open a door for me. I like dressing up, I like sharing my personal style with the world (hence, this blog and, well, my entire career as a blogger, haha), and trying my best look my best has definitely paid up.

If we have to dress anyways, why not have a purpose behind that, why not send a message that words can't create? In this world of first impressions, sometimes that's all you get: one shot to leave your mark, to make yourself memorable; help yourself and start investing in looking better, trust me, everyone can do it and it's not that hard (:

Wisdom #54 new
This year will be different,
this year will be a fresh start,
I can be anyone I want to be,
this year will be good.

It's time to leave a mark,
to make a good impression.
It's time for dreams to come true
for goals to be fulfilled.

So, start from scratch,
make something new,
take a risk, be brave, be bold.
Fight for what you believe in.

The Train Station

the train station 2
I'm wearing:

1. Biker jacket in black leather, from H&M.
2. Long sleeve polo shirt, from Mango.
3. Wool trousers in black, from H&M Studio.
4. White sneakers, from Adidas Neo.
5. Rings, from H&M.
the train station 5
Life is like a train station: most of us spend a lot of time waiting and waiting, waiting for something to happen, for our lives to start... We wait until we're brave enough to hop on the next train and start exploring uncharted territories. Waiting is part of our nature, we wait for an opportunity, for our big break and, sadly, it hardly ever happens.

I was talking to my mom and her husband the other day and he said something like "now that you finally have your degree, will you look for a job?" and I said: "I do have a job" and he replied: "no, I mean like a real job"... And that was kind of discouraging, you know? Being a blogger and a YouTuber is tough work, believe it or not, it's saying goodbye to your privacy, to proper vacation time, to tons of things... I'm not complaining here, I love what I do, I just want to give you some context.

Days later, I was driving with my mom, I think we shot 3 outfits that day and I realised that I don't want to give up; my big break hasn't arrived yet but that doesn't mean it never will. I think I'm good at what I do and somehow, someday, that train will stop at my station and I'll hop on and ride away, onto better, bigger things. That's what I need to think in order to stay motivated, the rest is a mix of hard work and a bit of luck. So, I want you to apply that to your life too: work hard, take risks, take chances, hope for the best and never give up.

No me estoy quejando aquí, sólo quiero darles contexto.

Togetherness

Wisdom #53 togetherness
Humans are a complicated species. We develop emotions throughout the years and learn many different ways to express those (some nicer than others), but one thing that we can't avoid is involving ourselves with others. A common phrase during weddings is: "(together) for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do us part" and we're really good at coming together for these situations.

Think about it, when something really good happens, we celebrate it; when something terrible occurs, we come together and support each other, and no matter how horrible people can be, there's always someone willing to take (and be by) your side. Sure, we do many awful things, the world is filled with nasty people, but the idea that other side of the spectrum exists too makes me still have hope in humanity and in actively working together for a better future.

Henry.

The winter rose, a flower that's both beautiful and toxic... I like to compare people with flowers because we're more similar than we think and, my friends, I've had my share of pretty winter roses throughout the years: people that you're drawn to but that, in the end, poison you and turn you into something that you're not, into something else.

The idea of a rose that blooms during the winter might be interpreted as someone with a sturdy personality; don't get fooled by their charms, toxic people loom around us everyday and they're closer than we're able to perceive. My biggest love story involved a girl like that, beautiful on the outside and also on the inside (or so I thought)... It's not that she was a bad person, because I don't think she was (is) but she had a toxic effect in me, she was killing me (and my hopes) slowly by drawing me closer to her (yet not really as close as I felt)...

My best friend from middle school/high school also turned out to be a winter rose, she poisoned my mind and twisted everything; I lost and severed a lot of my relationships because of her and, ultimately, she took everything I thought of her and threw it in the garbage. The best thing I did, and I really think I'm right on this one, was cutting them both, pluck them out of my garden. It hurt, of course, but, while getting rid of poison is never a pleasing activity, it's something that we must do.

January: Human Nature

January Human Nature Who are we?

What's real and what's true? People tend to see life as a fiction novel; I think it's because presenting it as a sort of "hero vs villain" story makes it easier to take it all in, but it's not what really happens. We are complicated, complex: no one is entirely good or entirely evil (think about it, even the nastiest of people out there are nice to somebody). So, how is it possible that we trick ourselves into believing that we're part of some black and white life when we're actually inside a grey area?

It's human nature. We create patterns and narratives to conduct ourselves everyday, trying to make sense of the things that happen and to simplify the effort we put in understanding each other. I bet you've heard this thing before: put yourself in someone else's shoes; that's a saying about empathy, about understanding that there's more inside a person that what you see at first glance; however, not everyone seems to care enough to go there.

For the first month of 2018, I chose human nature to be the blog's theme. This will be a knowledge ride, one where we learn about each other, about us, about the worlds inside our worlds. I wanna start this year off in the best possible way and learning feels right. I hope to find some light and insights and I'd love it if you guys do that too. Instead of a music playlist, this time, I wanted to share a booklist, I hope you like that too.

Everything changes.
Love,

Firma Hen Evia 200
