Focus

I wish I knew more things when I was younger. I wish I knew how to react better but I didn't. I was emotional, dumb, I was a different person back then, a guy that I no longer understand. Life works in mysterious ways sometimes. You feel like you have it all figured out and then a curveball comes that changes everything. I used to be more innocent, in a way, I wanted to help and save everybody but you can't really save anyone, can you?

Nowadays, I wish for focus, for aloofness, I don't want to care that much about anyone anymore, I don't want to feel heartbroken and sad. I'm working on being cooler, nice but not naive. I've heard people calling me mysterious lately, I like that. I used to be an open book, that will never happen again, that was the guy I no longer understand.

He escuchado gente llamándome misterioso últimamente, me gusta eso.
Love always,
Henry.

Book Club #13: When The Night Comes

Hello there, best friends! By now you should know that I'm doing an online book club, right here on the blog. While it's not tightly related to fashion, reading is one of my favorite activities and I do think people within the fashion industry (and everyone else too, really) need to read things other than magazines. I read the debut novel from this Aussie author and was infatuated with her writing style; when this title came out I knew I had to read it. Book Club #13 is When The Night Comes, by Favel Parrett.

// ¡Hola mejores amigos!
One person can change your whole life... Relationships between humans are complex and can affect your identity in ways you can't initially grasp. In When The Night Comes, Favel Parrett tells two interconnected stories: first, you have Isla, a little girl living with her mom and brother; then you have Bo, a Danish cook working in a ship, called the Nella Dan. Their story comes together when Bo arrives in Tasmania and stays in Isla's home. She starts to hear his stories and tells them along with hers, creating a small mental ship that only the two of them can board.

Isla's side of the story revolves around her family life, school and fears. Bo's, on the other hand, is more about his life in the ship, his mates, his struggles and the link that bonds Nella Dan, him and his dad. Parrett's writing goes seamlessly from one point of view to the other; one minute, she writes like a girl and; the next, she transforms a sailor, and that's what I really love about her. She becomes one with her characters in a non-pretentious way. She writes "enough", and by that I mean, there are no tedious descriptions or unnecessary details, you read what you need to know and that text is written impeccably.

After I read Past The Shallows (you can check out that review here), I posted some things on social media and Favel herself replied and offered to send me her newest novel. That took me over the moon and back, not everyday a talented writer sends stuff to an aspiring novelist, you know? When The Night Comes made me a little kid again and, at the same time, turned me into a cook in a ship. This book proves that when you meet someone it really can change the way you see life; incorporating a different perspective can help you clear your view and help you select the best path for you.

Love always,
Henry.

June: Coolness

Sometimes I forget... And then it hits me...

What's up guys! For this month I wanted to choose a really cool theme; you may not know this but I get a bit stressed every time that I have to find a new monthly theme, just because I want it to be amazing and meaningful. Sometimes I forget... And then it hits me... The main goal of this blog is to have fun, to be a source of information and, mostly, entertainment. To be a cool blog.

I knew right away that the perfect theme for June would be COOLNESS; meaning that I want to have this aloofness and effortlessly awesome air captured on every post. Coolness is about having courage to do what's right, to have fun, to show approval and staying positive. That's all there is to it. It's aloof, it's uncomplicated.

Throughout June, there will be a couple of cool photo shoots, outfit posts, book reviews, life journals, styling sessions and, who knows, maybe one or two surprises coming along the way. It's about being cool, that means less planned and more spontaneous. The playlist reflects my current mood, going from excited to calm, a bit melancholic and introspective. I hope you like it and that you're on board for what's coming up.

Keep it real, keep it cool.
Love,

A veces lo olvido... Y luego llega a mí...

Y luego llega a mí...
