Heartbreak Hotel

Life is a great story; we arrive to this world and become a part of it but not quite. We travel, discover, but we never conquer. It's like we're entering a place hoping to become one with it but we have to check out eventually. Life is like a hotel and hotels are similar to life.

I've been thinking a lot lately, about me, about life, about people. I want to achieve so many things, I want to have more experiences in my bag. The other day, I ran into someone that reminded me how heartbreak feels like, how much I suffered for her and how far I've come as well. I was able to see her without feeling like my world was imploding, I was able to check out of heartbreak hotel.

YouTube Monthly Recap: July

Hey there best friends! How's it going? I can't believe July just ended, this year's going by so fast! July was a complicated month because I wanted to dedicate all my time to my blog and YouTube channel but I couldn't quite accomplish that, I did try my best, tho... Well, at least on YouTube, everything flowed as it should've.

During this month, which had 5 weekends, I got a bit more personal and even sang a little for you; tried some Sephora masks and treatments; became obsessed with Pokemon Go; shared a bit of my summer plans and tried to give you tips on what to do and; finally, talked about my experience with robbery in Mexico City. If you're catching up, I hope you guys enjoy the videos! If you already watched them, well, give them a second look? Haha.

// ¡Hola mejores amigos!

Jaja.

Don't forget to subscribe! See you next month!
Love always,
Henry.

Friends, family members, teammates... We all need a partner in crime to get through the different stages of life. In that sense, I guess I've always been a lucky guy, maybe my romantic life sucks big time but I've always had a good friend to rely on. I'm that type of person that doesn't do too well inside big groups, I much rather have one-on-one moments with people and develop those relationships into something truly valuable.

For as long as I remember, I've always had one or two friends that I heavily rely on. During my schoolboy years, I had a best friend for kinder-garden; a best friend for my first few years of elementary school (and a different clique for the final years); same thing happened for middle school and; during high school and Uni it evolved into a small group of people that I cherish today. Throughout July I talked about getting your mojo back and I think a crucial part of this process is acknowledging that there's someone out there that will be able to hold your hand and support you no matter what.

That's what true friends do: they grab your hand when you're scared, they jump with you when you receive good news and offer a shoulder to cry on when the skies are grey. So, I guess one important thing I'm trying to say here is that no matter how dark the situation gets, if you have that one partner in crime near you, things are going to be okay; just make sure you don't lose that important person on your quest to find yourself.

// Amigos, familiares, equipos...

Do I need a vacation?

Wisdom #8 Do I Need a Vacation Have you ever asked yourself that particular question? If you have, then you DO need a vacation. It could be a weekend getaway, a week off work, heck, even a day at the spa or something like that. We need more vacation time and we're not making it a priority. My generation (millennial) is the one that allegedly, is not as focused on our jobs as much, the one that doesn't care about lasting long on them, the one with many issues to settle in one place... And yes, some millennials are like that, but I've seen that some of my friends and acquaintances have become a little stuck and I feel they need a vacation... ASAP.

Allow me to elaborate on this: money and stability are really important, I know, but I also know that you're only young once and that all of that hard work you do deserves a reward. Lately, I've noticed that tons of my friends are stressed about life (I include myself into that mix) and, trust me, going away really helps when you're trying to find yourself. And as much as those stressed millennials worry me, an opposite effect happens when I see that people my age are taking breaks from their jobs to travel for a bit. Think about it, jobs will still be there when you get back, it's just a matter of asking for something you rightfully deserve.

So, next time you're wondering if you need a vacation, the answer is always YES. You're thinking about it, aren't you? Well, just do it already. Ask for time off, visit a new place, make time for yourself and reconnect with the things you like, the things that make you happy. Put yourself out there and create special moments because, remember this, life doesn't happen behind a computer screen.

Love always,
Henry.

Moving On.

Moving On
Moving On 5 I'm wearing:

1. Denim jacket, from Pull & Bear.
2. Basic t-shirt in black, from Old Navy.
3. Extreme super skinny chinos in beige, from Asos.
4. Hi top sneakers in blue and white, from Adidas Originals.
5. Oversized clubmasters, from Ray Ban.
6. Skull necklace, from titiMadam.
7. Rings, from H&M.

Moving On 3
Moving on is one of the hardest things to do; it doesn't matter if it's a bad thing or a good one, letting go of your emotions and start aiming towards a different direction never comes easy. I've learned the hard way that you can't get attached to things, to people, to situations, it's important to expand your point of view and perspective in order to advance in life. Remember, it's not always about moving forward, sideways can work to change the horizon and allow you to see things differently.

As I said on a previous post, I had a bad experience the other day involving a theft. And sure, it sucked and it pissed me off and it made me spend money that I was planning to use on something else but, you know, I have to move on from that; yes, learn from the experience and become a bit wiser but, also, become able to let go and move on with my life.

As humans, we tend to feel like we're the center of the universe, like all of the world's biggest problems happen to us, that's normal. But I think it's really important to acknowledge that there are more things going on out there, that you can't feel paralysed and afraid of what comes next. Everything will, eventually, fall into place. Life goes on and we must let go of things in order to move on.

Losing Faith

Wisdom #7 Losing Faith I had a bad day: my phone got stolen and I feel crappy, I feel stupid. Here's the story (the short version anyway): An old man approached me on my way home and asked if I could help him, he had car trouble, asked if I could call a tow truck for him so his car could get picked up; I tried but the number didn't exist. He asked if I could try again, so he starts telling me digit by digit when, suddenly, he grabs my phone, shoves me away and hops onto a different car. 30 minutes later, he was selling my phone at a shady part of the city.

That's what I get for trying to help a stranger. You know? I like to believe the best in people, I always try to help those in need but, after today, that side of me is dead. I lost faith in people, I lost faith in humanity and, truth be told, it saddens me deeply that situations like these happen in my city. I'm done with this place, I'm done with being nice to everyone. From now on, I'll just ignore people, I don't care what happens to them, I'll only care about me. I'm done with dealing with jerks and I won't ever feel as foolish as I did today. There's evil in this city, in this world, and this goes way beyond a petty theft. I don't want to lose faith in the world and to do that, I will not have faith in it anymore.

Love always,
Henry.

Vampire 2 I was talking to this person the other day and he told me he used to be really nice and kind but that didn't really led him anywhere, so, he decided to become a bit more of a jerk and, surprisingly, that has worked great for him. I've never trusted people who are all "rainbows and sunshine" all the time, I just think they're really messed up and have a bad dark side within them; but that doesn't mean that I think you don't have to be nice to everyone.

I don't know if this has happened to you but since I decided to be a nice guy and kinder to everyone, I seem to win less. Yes, I'm less stressed and it's wonderful to have less enemies out there but, I don't know, I guess we live in a world where nice guys finish last and that sucks. So, it's time to make a choice: what's it going to be? Naughty or nice? Mortal or vampire?

People have been saying that I look like a vampire a lot lately, haha. I guess it comes from me being a little shy and quiet (and also because I'm pale and the circles around my eyes are red instead of purple) and I quite like that idea. I guess that's how I need to be, a vampire: silent but deadly. I need to make more calculated choices in life and think things through. If I don't look out for myself, none of my "colleagues" will do it for me. It's about asking for things and giving only when asked. Survival of the fittest.

Henry.

Once A Wildcat

Wisdom #6 Once A Wildcat
We're a generation of media-influenced minds. We find characters on TV shows, on movies, and we feel a resonance with them. That's important for us, we become invested and care about them almost as much as we do for our friends in real life. We all have something that marked us growing up and I think the first thing that really resonated with me was High School Musical.

I'm not even ashamed of saying that, I don't care if that wasn't what cool kids were into at the time. High School Musical blew my mind because it wasn't just another Disney Channel Original Movie, it had music and it wasn't animated, it was a real musical. High School Musical went on to become a super successful franchise and, also, earned a place in my heart. I knew all the songs, I sang them, God, they were even my ringtones at one point.

Last weekend, Disney Channel aired the three movies, one after the other (sadly, I missed the first one), to commemorate its 10th anniversary, and it became clear that High School Musical was a big part of my high school life. It taught me to dream, to enjoy singing and to have fun. I was a much happier person back then and, even if I wouldn't be friends with the Henry from that time, I need to remember that he used to be lighthearted and enjoyed life much more than I do now. I need to rescue the bits I liked from who I was back then. Get my head in the game because once a wildcat... ALWAYS A WILDCAT.

Me enseñó a soñar, a disfrutar cantar y a divertirme. SIEMPRE ERES LINCE.
Love always,
Henry.

Growl

Growl
Growl 6 I'm wearing:

1. Blazer in black, from United Colors Of Benetton.
2. Longline shirt in white, from H&M.
3. Denim shorts, from Pull & Bear.
4. Meggings, from 8 Seconds Korea.
5. Rigns, from Asos and H&M.

Growl 2
Life works in mysterious ways, that's a sentence I say a lot. I truly believe that; you know, somehow and someday life finds its way of putting everything as it's supposed to be, and, when that happens, a strong sense of peace comes to us. But, and this is also very important, balance has its limitations, we need to push the envelope a bit, get our hands dirty and get the work done.

In the jungle, the toughest creatures have the advantage over the weaker ones, that's how life usually works, that's what makes sense. But from time to time comes a little creature that casts a big shadow, one that knows how to growl and make an impression. Translated onto real life, this idea applies to the ones that aren't born rich and succesful. As individuals who face struggles every day, we need to growl louder than the toughest of creatures, it's really up to us to pedal to the metal and be succesful.

I wasn't born a privileged kid and I'm still struggling to find my spot in the world but I came to this realisation: I need to step up my game and work harder if I want to achieve my goals. We need to work harder to prove our value, gain control of our lives and walk the extra mile to go where we want to be. There's nothing sweeter than the feeling of working towards a goal and accomplishing it, to know that in a jungle filled with big creatures, you were the one who growled the loudest.

Book Club #24: The Loving Sabotage

Hi guys!! There wasn't any book club posts last month and that's one of the things I'd like to amend during July. This is always about finding a cool novel to share with you and, also, I love books so, it's amazing to have the chance of writing reviews about the stuff I read. I'm running out of titles from this author (she's that good!), but I don't care, by now you should know about who I'm talking about. Book Club #24 is The Loving Sabotage, by Amélie Nothomb.

// ¡Hola amigos!
Book Club The Loving Sabotage title
Love is a battlefield... And a great war, indeed. When imagination is the background for a great adventure, anything can happen; in The Loving Sabotage, Amélie Nothomb takes us with her to Pekin, in the 70s, where she was relocated from the time she was 5 until she was 8. This is one of her autobiographical novels and, to be completely honest, these are the reason she's one of my favourite authors.

Nothomb finds herself removed from the beautiful life she had in Japan and arrives into communist China, surrounded by other diplomat's kids. All of the sudden, war is raised between them and she becomes a pathfinder; but in the middle of that, a six year old girl named Elena appears in the picture and infatuates Amélie like no one before; she proves to be aware of her charms and, hilariously, rejects Amélie's affection.

Love is a battlefield, and this story happens on a fictional war zone, one that (since we're talking about children here) is as real as it gets. Amélie shows us how tragic love can be (for all ages) with kids; how it's a game and games need strategy, how we have victories and sabotage and, when we're really lucky, the thing love gives to us is not happiness but knowledge. Everything about this book is very Nothomb, and I love that, it's fast-paced, witty, there's not a dull moment. I love it.

If you think you're going to like this book, head over to Book Depository and get The Loving Sabotage or any other titles from Amélie Nothomb (with free worldwide shipping!).

Love always,
Henry.

We have many different sides within our personalities. Think about it; no one is like a movie/soap opera/cartoon character that always dresses the same, that has super specific skills and traits that no one else has, no, that's not who we are. I believe this was a line from Shrek (haha): we're like onions, we have layers and layers... And it's okay to be like that, it's okay to not be unidimensional individuals.

Back when I was in middle and my early years of high school I got a bit confused and was kind of a mean kid. After you've been bullied for a long time (like I was), sometimes the only answer that comes to mind is to get tough and be mean to others so they fear and respect you. I was like that for a while and, thank the gods, I had a change of heart and decided that being mean was too much of a hassle, that it wasn't really who I was or the kind of person that I wanted to become.

After that, I toned down that side of my personality and decided to bring others to light: I chose to be nice. And, let me tell you, it was one of the smartest decisions I've made. Of course, I had to work hard at it but, eventually, it became natural to me. I'm a nice guy now and, sure, from time to time my dark side comes out and I get mean but I go back to being nice real soon because it's easier to be nice, to be kind. I don't know if that is ever going to make me a winner at life but it sure does allow me to sleep peacefully at night.
