Heartbreak Hotel

Life is a great story; we arrive to this world and become a part of it but not quite. We travel, discover, but we never conquer. It's like we're entering a place hoping to become one with it but we have to check out eventually. Life is like a hotel and hotels are similar to life.

I've been thinking a lot lately, about me, about life, about people. I want to achieve so many things, I want to have more experiences in my bag. The other day, I ran into someone that reminded me how heartbreak feels like, how much I suffered for her and how far I've come as well. I was able to see her without feeling like my world was imploding, I was able to check out of heartbreak hotel.

The Tokyo Journals

Travelling to Japan was one of the greatest decisions I've made in my entire life; going back again tops that. I saw myself immersed in a city that rarely sleeps, that's always efficient and well organised, a city that made me feel like a foreigner, like a stranger but, at the same time, made me feel at home.

I came with high expectations about this trip but the final results exceeded what I had in mind: from walking in the rain, to seeking refugee inside a store that became my haven; from going to Fashion Week to hanging out with new friends I made along the way; from seeing the cherry blossoms bloom, going to a cemetery, watch incredible architecture to eating my weight in Harajuku crepes... Tokyo proved to be one of my happiest eras, one where I learned a lot and one that's nowhere near its ending.

Travelling Alone

Life will only give you so many chances to do things. I remember one of the lessons my mom taught me was about being able to do stuff on your own. She said that she wasn't brave enough to travel alone and that was the reason she missed out on many trips she always wanted to do. I decided I wasn't going to be like that, I was going to be okay with travelling alone.

In between being scared, lost, excited, ecstatic and happy, you get to experience a lot of personal growth. Travelling alone has taught me a lot about who I am, what I want and the lengths I'm willing to go to achieve my goals and dreams. This editorial is inspired by several moments and emotions you feel when travelling alone: being happy, bored, lonely, discovering cool spots and growing up.

Hello, my Japanese friend.

Taking chances... That was this month's theme and boy, did I take chances during March. Going back to Japan for a second time was something that I've been wanting to do since returned the first time. This time, though, I decided it was going to be different, it was going to be better. I've been doing so many things and meeting incredible people, loving every minute of this experience.

For this editorial, I wanted to capture something really special: I made a really good friend named Kazuki Yamada (who also happens to be a model) and we went to this really cool neighbourhood called Daikanyama for a super special awesome photo-shoot.

Currently listening: Red Velvet - Ice Cream Cake.

Chats and carousels

When I started this blog, I remember that the very first outfit post I did revolved around a small carnival-isn fair that I came across. Ever since then, I've been wanting to do a photo-shoot with a carousel in the background. You have no idea how badly I looked for one and how difficult it was to get permission to shoot at one.

But here we are, four years later, in a freakin' carousel. It was magical. I fulfilled one of my fashion dreams and, with a little help of my friends Luis Galicia, Aaron Walls and Alex from MexAlex, I was able to snap (and now publish) the photos I only dreamt of doing in the past.

This was a special day because not only was I able to hang around with friends but also Alex did some photos with me. I've always said that meeting people and have them become friends is my favourite part of being a blogger; so this photo-day summed everything I love about blogging and gave me fuel to keep going for more. Here's to us, to new dreams and adventures.

Suburban Winter

I once read that a good book changes the reader after finishing it. I think the same thing happens when you travel: you go on a trip and come back changed. It's true that you will never be the person you were at that particular place and time ever again but it's also important to learn how to get closer to the kind of human being you want to be in the future. It's about transforming for the better.

I spent a good part of my winter visiting my mom in Folsom, California. If you're not familiar with it, Folsom is a small town in the north of California, very suburban and quiet. I happen to like it because it's an amazing place to walk and think, with great backdrops for photos, but I realised I only like it during winter, when it's cold and you can go out and explore. I've been having a pretty suburban winter and, believe it or not, it's been helping heal my soul.
