I finally got my prescription glasses, they're really awesome (I'd be half blind without 'em). The background for this photos was another of the new murals at school, I really don't love it but the colors on it make an interesting contrast with my clothes. While I didn't love the background, I really loved the results. It was hard doing the jumping or running shots because the boots are so heavy, they really limited me and I was, also, afraid of dropping the glasses. He. 

On the other hand, I'm currently obsessed with crosses and spikes and this Asos necklace combined both in an awesome way. As a bonus, it was really cheap (like 3 sterling pounds). Asos is quickly becoming one of my favorite stores since they always have a sale going on and the items there are really different to those in Mexico. If they only were quicker with the deliveries, one month is a really long time...

// Por fin tengo mis lentes para ver. Los amo (estaria medio ciego sin ellos). El escenario para estas fotos fue otro de los nuevos murales en la escula, no lo amo pero los colores que tiene hacen un contraste interesante con mi ropa. Pude no amar el fondo pero sí los resultados. Fue difícil hacer las fotos con movimiento o saltos porque las botas son muy pesadas, en serio me limitaron y, además, me daba mucho miedo que se me cayeran los lentes. Je.

Por otro lado estoy obsesionado con cruces y picos y este collar de Asos combina ambos elementos en una gran forma. Como plus, fue muy barato (como 60 pesos). Asos se está convirtiendo rápidamente en una de mis tiendas favoritas porque siempre tienen rebaja y las cosas que encuentro son muy distintas a las que hay en México. Si tan sólo fueran más rápidos con los envíos, un mes es mucho tiempo...

I'm sick, I've stomachaches and they're awful. I've never been this sick, yet here I am, blogging just for y'all. So here's the deal with the photos, some new murals were painted at school and I really dislike them I kinda like this one, only this one. The thing that I really loved about the photos was the light. FINALLY, the light was on my favor or, at least, gave a cool "spotty" effect. 

// Estoy enfermo, tengo el peor dolor de estómago, nunca había estado tan mal y, aún con eso, aquí estoy, bloggeando. La onda con estas fotos... pintaron nuevos murales en la escuela y los odio    y sólo me gusta este. Lo que en serio me gustó con las fotos fue la luz. POR FIN, la luz estuvo de mi lado o, por lo menos, dio un efecto moteado buena onda. 

I've two obsessions, one new and one not so new. The first one is a new song by Mika, it's called Make You Happy and I really, really, really love it. The title comes from that song. The not so new obsession is a little wonder land called Zara Kids, where the clothes cost half the price of the adult ones and (thank God) the biggest size, the fat kid size, fits me well. Hehe. 

I decided that, from now on, I'm going to give credit to the wonderful people that help me with the photos, and the photographer for the day was the good cupcake baker/designer Marlen. Thanks!!

// Tengo dos obsesiones, una nueva y otra no tan nueva. La primera es una nueva canción de Mika, se llama Make You Happy y la amo, en serio, mucho. El título proviene de ella. La obsesión no tan nueva es un pequeño país de las maravillas llamado Zara Kids, donde la ropa cuesta la mitad que la de adulto y (gracias Dios) la talla más grande, la de niño gordo, me queda bien. Ja.

This is my Mika inspired look, I tried to use layers but in a simple way: a solid color jacket, plaid shirt, basic t-shirt, skinny jeans. And then, complement those garments with my horses scarf used as a belt (I really liked that), a statement piece (a pin I'll discuss later) and my favourite sneakers, creating a little bit of contrast. 

I believe everything comes together nicely and that this look captures the essence of Mika's style but with my own twist to it. The thing about the new "stylish dudes" section is that's much more inspirational instead of just being me copying looks from other people. 

// Este es mi look inspirado en Mika. Traté de superponer capas en una forma simple: una chamarra en color sólido, camisa de cuadros, playera sencilla, jeans entubados. Y luego, complementar esas prendas con mi bufanda de caballos usada como cinturón (eso me gustó mucho), una pieza que salte o algo (un pin del que hablaré luego) y mis tennis favoritos, todo junto creando un poquito de contraste. Si alguien sabe traducir "statement piece" al español, esa traducción sería bienvenida (:

Creo que todo funciona bien y el look captura la esencia del estilo que tiene Mika pero con mi propia visión. La cosa con esta nueva sección de los "stylish dudes" es que debe ser mucho más inspiradora, en vez de mí copiando lo que otras personas hacen. 

Now, the pin. This was a gift from a really good friend who is a designer, painter and super talented. She has this funny joke: people are not worthy of loving unless they can give up an ear (much like Vincent van Gogh did). So, that's why the heart from "I LOVE" is half a heart and half an ear.  Clever, huh?

Ahora, el pin. Fue un regalo de una buena amiga que es diseñadora, pintora y súper talentosa. Tiene este chiste que me encanta donde amar a alguien no vale la pena a menos que estén dispuestos a dar una oreja por ti (como Vincent van Gogh). Por eso el corazón del "I LOVE" es mitad corazón y mitad oreja. Astuto ¿no?

Stylish dudes: Mika

I'm creating a new section for this blog and it's called "Stylish dudes". Instead of featuring a trend or a particular garment, I'll be featuring some dudes who I think are very dapper. After describing or talk about a particular look I'll post my take on the stylish dude style. He.

Opening this new section is one of my favourite pop singers: Mika. Not only does he have an incredible and unique voice and writes his songs,  he also has a pretty cool way of dressing himself. He's casual but not too casual, likes bright colors but can also pull off great black and white combos. The cool thing about Mika is that he always looks young, cool and like he's having a blast. 

One of my favourite looks from him comes from a music video, "Rain"; I really like the use of a scarf as a belt, the statement piece (a doll necklace) and the super awesome jacket with the black skinny jeans. It's accessorized but matched with really simple pieces (like the t-shirt or the skinny jeans). That's the look I'll tackle on my next post. 

// Estoy creando una nueva sección para el blog, se llama "Stylish dudes". En vez de hablar sobre una tendencia o una prenda en particular, trataré con algunos chavitos buena onda que se vistan padre. Tras describir un look en particular, postearé uno mío inspirado en el chavito con estilo. Ji. 

Abriendo esta nueva sección está uno de mis cantantes pop favoritos: Mika. No sólo tiene una voz increíble y única y compone sus propias canciones, también se viste súper padre. Es casual pero no muy casual, le gustan los colores brillantes pero también puede sacar buenos combos con blancos y negros. Lo buena onda de Mika es que siempre se ve joven, con mucha onda y parece que se divierte o  algo.

Un atuendo que me encanta viene del video musical para "Rain"; el uso de bufanda como cinturón se me hace padre, así como la pieza que se ve diferente o lo caracteriza (el collar de muñeco) y la gran chamarra combinada con pantalones entubados. Está accesorizado pero combinado con otras piezas muy simples (como la playera o los jeans negros). Ése es el look que me inspiró para hacer uno propio.

I'm wearing:

5. Hi top sneakers in gray and silver, from Adidas Originals.

So, I was feeling a bit bored with my usual poses; in case you haven't noticed, they're always the same. I was looking for inspiration, browsing and searching, and, the greatest result came in the shape of Coco Rocha. "Who is Coco Rocha?" you may ask; "why is she special?", you may wonder. Well, Coco Rocha is a Canadian supermodel that can really pull off some amazing poses. She's incredible.

I decided to take a few steps out of my comfort zone and try some strange posing. I tried lots of things but, unfortunately and since I'm no supermodel, most of them were shitty. Really, my ugliness was the main character for this shoot. In spite of that, I managed to rescue some photos that, I think, work and are kinda cool. That's just my opinion, the world can disagree (and they, most likely, will). Anyhow, I'm also posting the video that triggered my inspiration below. Coco Rocha is awesome. 

As for the tile, yes, it comes from Game of Thrones and one of my favorite characters from it: Robb Stark. I'm really hooked with the saga (on TV and books, both). I think it's really amazing, don't you? I surely am a big fan, haha; and the fur snood kind of reminded me of winter on the series. Vaguely.

// Entonces, me aburrí un poco de mis poses. En caso de que no se dieran cuenta, siempre son las mismas. Buscaba inspiración y el mejor resultado llegó en la forma de Coco Rocha. "¿Quién es Coco Rocha?" podrían preguntarme; "¿por qué es ella especial?", pensarán. Pues, Coco Rocha es una súper modelo canadiense que puede sacar poses increíbles. En serio, es impresionante. 

Decidí salir de mi zona de comfort e intentar algunas poses inusuales. Intenté muchísimas cosas pero, desafortunadamente y como no soy súper modelo, la mayoría eran cosas horribles. En serio, mi fealdad fue protagonista en esta sesión. Aún así, intenté rescatar lo mejor que pude y creo que algunas fotos no están nada mal. Pero esa es sólo mi opinión. El mundo puede pensar lo contrario (y seguramente lo harán). En fin, posteo el video que detonó mi inspiración más abajo. Coco Rocha es lo máximo. 

Y el título, sí, viene de Game of Thrones y uno de mis personajes favoritos de ahí: Robb Stark. Estoy muy enganchado con esta saga (tanto en tele como en libros). ¿A poco no es increíble?  Yo sí lo creo y soy gran fan, jaja; y el cuello tejido con pelo me recordó un poco al invierno en la serie. Vagamente.

Double take: Finals week(s).

Once, every six months, comes a time full of stress and work and shitty feelings. I'm talking about finals week(s) at school. This semester was super difficult and left me really tired. Teamwork was awesome, then awful, then just tiring. In the middle of that storm, I wasn't able to do much with this blog posts. That's why, on this entry, I'm featuring two looks.

// Una vez, cada seis meses, llega el tiempo de horror, estrés, trabajo e inestabilidad emocional. Por supuesto, estoy hablando de las semanas de trabajos finales y exámenes en el colegio. Este semestre fue súper difícil y me dejó agotado. El trabajo en equipo era buena onda, luego horrible y, al final, sólo cansado. En medio de todo eso, no había podido postear mucho. Por eso, ahora, publico dos looks. 

I absolutely love Mickey Mouse (the old cartoon version, never the new one); and when I saw this t-shirt at Pull & Bear, I couldn't not have it. If you never have seen an original Mickey Mouse cartoon, ¿what the hell are you wating for? Go to your browser and look up "Steamboat Willie"; it's oh so wonderful. 

// Amo con todo el corazón a Mickey Mouse (el viejito, jamás la nueva versión); y cuando vi esta playera en Pull & Bear, no podía no tenerla. Si nunca han visto una caricatura del Mickey Mouse original ¿qué demonios están esperando? Busquen "Steamboat Willie"; es una obra de arte.

 Not everything was completely stressful, though. I was able to read Wuthering Heights, written by Emily Brönte; and I must say: it's really good. I was only reading it because there was a recent adaptation featuring the amazingly pretty Kaya Scodelario and I didn't want to see it without reading the book first. Here's where it got tricky, the book was unexpectedly good and the film, well, I didn't like it as much since it only covers the first half of the novel and that sucks.

Lo bueno es que no todo fue estrés. Pude leer Wuthering Heights, escrita por Emily Brönte; y debo decir: es un gran libro. Sólo lo leía porque supe que la maravillosamente bonita Kaya Scodelario participaría en una adaptación y no quería verla sin haber leído la novela. Aquí es donde pasa algo raro, el libro fue inesperadamente bueno y la película, pues, no me encantó (sólo cubre la primera mitad de la trama y no está padre).

Anyhow, I didn't realize how much plaid this post contains until this point. Well, plaid is rad, ¿isn't it? So wear it, wear it a lot, focus on school, read tragic novels and wait for true love to happen. I know I'll do that.

En fin, no había notado cuánto estampado de cuadros contiene esta entrada (no hasta este punto). Y bueno, está padre ¿no? Usen cuadros, úsenlos mucho, concéntrense en la escuela, lean novelas trágicas y esperen a que suceda el verdadero amor. Sé que yo lo haré.
