I don't like the beach, I don't like heat or sweating or humidity or sand or all that comes with going to the beach. I'm super self conscious of my body so, I don't like swimming shorts and being shirtless in public. My family wanted to go on a beach day and it was one of those situations where you have no say except for "should we bring snacks?" and stuff like that... Luckily for me, it was really cold, like shivering cold, during that day therefore I was able to keep my sweatshirt on the whole time. I think it's important to say that this whole thing happened back in January, before quarantine and stuff like that, so we were not being irresponsible, okay?

Because it was waaaaay too cold, we were completely unprepared, haha; also, when we got to the beach it turned out to be a "no drinking" situation. We were thirsty, cold, pissed off and, I know I said this before but, unprepared, totally unprepared. We needed blankets, better food, a whole bunch of things that we didn't bring, haha. So, no swimming suits, no sunny moments, no tans (thankfully), only me, my sweatshirt, my choker, boots and glasses, haha. In a way, it was the perfect beach day for me because it didn't include all the things that I dislike BUUUUT I also (heavily) dislike going to places unprepared.

Anyhow, let's talk about the outfit here: I've discovered I love how burgundy looks on me, haha, and I need to get more garments in that color... I always go to the beach wearing jeans and some other pieces deemed not "proper beach attire", like boots or suede shoes, but I wanted to keep it cool and chic within my own sense of style and I think it works, it's a really cool look. I've been loving chokers lately and this one is really something! And, last year, I decided to take more risks with my accessories in general, so it works; the sunglasses are another risky choice but I kinda really like them, they're outside of my comfort zone. Take chances, have fun, you only live once and stuff (:

LOWER YOUR EXPECTATIONS. I wrote that in all caps because I mean it, guys; life teaches us many lessons and that's an important one. I'm a perfectionist, a control-freak, I like to lead and, if you haven't guessed it by now, that has hurt me and teared me down many many times. When I go to family things or events held by my mom's friends, it's a funny thing, they always tell me I look like a model (I mean, of course I'm not a model but thanks) or a pop-star or even, (true story) the dolls from the wedding cake... And I think it's because of the way I dress and present myself. I'm not always glamorous or anything like that but I do put in a lot of effort.

So, imagine this scenario when we got to this party with 20-30 people and I'm wearing a freakin' glitter shirt and the host is in shorts and flip-flops (with very questionable hair), I felt so out of place and, I know it's a frivolous thing to say, at the same sort of superior to everyone else. That's the power your outfit and personal care can give you. Let me finish this statement saying that I was in no way superior to anyone and dressing better doesn't make you better than others but it sure as hell gives you a confidence boost. In the end, I got past my initial judgements by lowering my expectations and, turns out, everyone was super friendly and nice; that proves that even when you're in a farm (because I was), surrounded by people with a bad sense of style, you're not better than them, they all have their own value and when you change your focus from say, their outfits or their hair, you can actually see people for what they are.

With that said, let's talk about fashion here, okay? Because all that sentimentalism I said before is well and good but another very important thing to state is that if you look good, you feel good and; , also, every event is an excuse to dress up a bit. If you're nice, interesting, kind and well dressed, you're on your way to success. I paired my new favourite glitter shirt (from YesStyle) with black skinny jeans and black boots; the shirt is strong enough to make a statement, I feel like it looks best with a muted palette when it comes to the rest of the outfit, all black, all the time. Shine with your clothes and shine with your personality, you'll be unstoppable.

Outfits with floral shirts and turtlenecks

One of the greater things about living in this era is that we get a lot more freedom than our ancestors had; of course, we still face so many limitations because of our race, gender, nationality and so on but, hey, it's better than in the 1800s. Freedom, unfortunately, is a double-edged sword because (and here's where I tie in the empathy factor that I chose for March's theme) you can choose to support one cause but no the other. Everything comes down to your choices.

This month, I've been choosing to support the feminist movement a lot more, giving a little to a cause that it's important to me. Some will choose to support a different cause, or to not empathise at all, that's a personal stance and something that only through putting yourself in the other person's shoes will lead to knowledge and understanding. I'm not asking you to be something or to support the same things I do, all I want is for you to train your empathy, to care about others and not just yourself. A little bit goes a long way.

Moving onto today's outfit, I wanted to juxtapose two items that are not regularly seen together: a floral shirt and a turtleneck (mainly because I just got this shirt but it's a thin fabric and it was freaking cooooold outside). I'm fairly new to wearing turtleneck items, they have to be non-constrictive or else I'll feel like I'm being choked... But really, a black comfy turtleneck is a great piece to have in your wardrobe and it looks surprisingly cool with a short sleeve shirt. Here, the floral pattern just adds a pop of texture and charm, I like that it looks more Japanese garden than beach print uncle-wear, haha.

Outfits with cropped sweaters and white boots

I'm wearing:

1. Cropped striped sweater in black and white, Pringle of Scotland x H&M.

4. Rings, from H&M.
outfits with cropped sweaters and white boots flattery 5
Flattery is the act of giving excessive compliments, I've never been too good at that. I remember my Mom telling me that I should be more diplomatic in life, that it was a good quality and it would take me places. I follow her advice 'til this day, but I always manage to stop when it looks like I'm sucking up to a person; flattering too much makes me uncomfortable so, I chose a different path: to be always nice and honest (but I try to be nice while being honest, there's no need to be harsh except, of course, when harshness is needed).

In the field that I work in, flattery is a form of currency, and I do mean every word. I've seen people literally kissing ass to others just to get a campaign with a brand, an invite to an event, you name it... The entertainment industry is tough and there's so much "fake-nice" people going around, that really drives me nuts. Maybe if I were more like them I'd be further advanced in my career but that's not who I am and it's not who I want to become so, yes, I stick to the occasional compliment and polite chit-chat, hoping that people realise that we're all out here doing our thing and value the fact that I'm being honest instead of a kiss-ass.

Moving onto the outfit, I got all the main garments during my trip to Alabama. Ever since I saw the Pringle of Scotland x H&M collection, I knew that I needed some of the pieces and this sweater really spoke to me. I like the mock turtle neck, the fact that it's a bit cropped but still has a semi-puff sleeve, the embroidery, everything, haha. I've been hunting white boots for a while and, even though these aren't the white leather Chelsea boots from Doc Martens, I found this pair from Fenty x Puma at an outlet for 35 dollars, pretty sweet huh? Plus, check out the double creeper sole, it's just fantastic. Again, I'm wearing a loose top and a tighter fit pant, it really works for me, but what do you think?

Outfits with berets, big glasses and comfy sweaters

6. Rings, from H&M.
1. outfits with berets big glasses cozy sweaters if i could go back 5
Have you ever thought something like: "if I could go back and change the past, I'd do this or that differently"? I don't like living with regrets (and I honestly don't think I have many because I can't think of a single one right now) but that doesn't mean that there aren't things from my past that I would've done differently. I was a different person back then and yet, maybe if I'd done better choices, I'd be in a better standing nowadays.

This happens with everything: health, school, friendships, relationships in general, money, you name it. It's like when you get in this train of thought and, suddenly, you're 5 years in the past wondering why you didn't confess to your crush sooner or; why you didn't join the gym or; treated that one friend better. Life rarely gives second chances but, here's a piece of advice, think carefully before you act, consider things in the long run and, if you happen to get the chance of coming back to a situation, make it a hell of a lot better.

Now, let's talk about the outfit here, since that's one of the things I want to be focusing a bit more from now on in the so called outfit posts; this was the first photoshoot I had in Alabama, we went to a pier and, since it was a bit chilly, I wanted to wear a comfy sweater. The key with sweaters, at least for me, is balancing the looseness on top with something skinny for the bottom. In terms of accessories, my hair was acting out so, this gingham beret worked perfectly to keep it all in check; plus, the big glasses give the whole thing a romantic-old school vibe, don't you think?

HOPE!!

Hope!!
Hope!! 4
I'm wearing:

1. Oversized unisex sweater in brown, from Pull & Bear.
2. Asymmetric striped t-shirt in orange, JW Anderson x Uniqlo.
3. Super skinny jeans in light wash, from Pull & Bear.
4. Suede Chelsea boots in tan, from Frank Wright.
5. Rings, from H&M.
Hope!! 3
I've always hated when people say stuff like "you disappointed me" or "I'm so disappointed in you"; it's like, who the hell do you think you are to feel that I needed to prove myself to you, Linda? Some girl told me that once and, at first, it really hurt, it made feel so bad... But, after thinking about it for a while, it pissed me off because she had no right to tell me that. I don't know if it's a matter of how it's phrased but I hate that people think that they have the right to feel disappointed in you; it would be better to say that you hurt them, that the things you did were unexpected or that you made them feel sad but no, disappointment somehow makes them feel like they're above you and that's not fair.

So, since I hate that (haha) I'd rather say stuff like: people like you make me lose hope in humanity or some big sentence like that. And that's what brings us here: HOPE, a feeling of expectation or desire for something to happen. I think both hope and disappointment have something in common and that's the idea of expecting something, the big difference is that one is about longing and the other is about thinking that something was taken from you. Hope has been a big part of my life because I constantly feel like I'm in a train station waiting, hoping for my ride to come and take me to a better place.

Since I've been talking about "the flower road" lately, I think it's important to mention that when it's nowhere in sight, we must remain hopeful, once we lose that... I think we're pretty much done. Life is not easy and finding the place where we belong is one of the biggest challenges we'll face, I'm sure of that, but instead of feeling disappointment, why don't we try keeping our hopes alive? I understand that sometimes we feel beaten down and we just sort of go through every day without making it really count, but I also know that when you have hope and things actually happen, it feels amazing. So, let's try, yeah?

2. Jersey kimono in black, from Puma.
3. Grey sweater, from Rewind.
4. Super skinny jeans in acid wash, from Pull & Bear.
5. Black and white sneakers, from Gola.
6. Rings, from H&M.
Plans Change 5
Adaptability, the quality of being able to adjust to new conditions, to be able to modify something for a new purpose. That's a key concept in my life nowadays; I've always been a bit of a control freak, I plan things, strategize, come up with solutions and ideas for whatever comes at me. I always tend to gravitate towards leadership, I'm a good leader and I like to see my plans come to fruition, from beginning to end. Sadly, that isn't always the case and plans change, I struggle and get frustrated from time to time. That's why adapting has become such an important thing to me.

I've become aware that in my field of work, especially in Mexico (where I feel the entertainment industry and the influencer/blogger/youtuber sphere is especially tainted), the way you act, your public relations and ability to have people in your corner is way more important than your talent or how much of a good project you can provide. In Mexico, people want to be famous, they want a glamorous life and, in order to do that, you need to talk the talk, it doesn't really matter if your work is mediocre, if you buy your followers/likes/views (as long as you can talk a good game and bluff your way to the top) people from PR agencies and brands will look your way.

Am I okay with that? Absolutely not. Do I need to learn how to play their game? I think I do. It sucks, you know? I've always been an earnest worker, a good guy with good ideas, a creative player. But that hasn't really taken me to the places I should be by now, so my original strategy needs some adjustments. I don't plan on losing myself or slacking off, I won't go and buy a billion followers so I look like I have a bigger audience but, somehow, I need to find a way to infiltrate the big leagues, you know? Otherwise, my project (my blog, YouTube channel and social media) won't be sustainable for much longer. Sometimes even good plans need to change in order to adapt to the current situation.

No me gusta ¿saben?

4. Super skinny jeans in black, from Pull & Bear.

Friends and Family 4
"Friends and family" is a phrase that I've heard regarding events, sales, special things that are supposed to be reserved for a small group of people consisting of, you guessed it, friends and family, haha. Other than that, I haven't seen it being used for a different cause, that's where I come in: I want  to talk about how we behave around friends and family in social media and how they interact (or not) with us.

For the longest time, I've been a bit weirded out when family members see my blog posts or my YouTube videos, I have this thing where I don't do certain things (like curse or drink) when I'm around my family and I definitely behave differently than when I'm with my friends. Some people I know have even blocked their mom or dad on Instagram, haha, I don't think I would go that far but, luckily, both of them are on the older side of the spectrum and have no real interest in social media.

Another aspect comes from who supports your craft. I've discussed this with a few colleagues and it's funny how sometimes the people who least support what you do are your friends and family. You get all this love from strangers (followers) and a few internet friends but not as much from the people you're supposed to be closest to, it somehow bothers me, you know? When my friends start their own projects or need help winning a contest or  getting a message across, I always try to support them and use my Internet reach to help out but; when it's the other way around, I rarely see a helping hand. Interesting, huh? I think it's important that we, as friends and family, learn to support each other, to help out when we're needed and rejoice in the success of our loved ones, doesn't that make sense?

Interesante ¿no?

If I had to rank my favourite brands/stores in the whole world (or at least the ones that I've been exposed to), the top 3 (in no particular order) would be composed of Costco, H&M and IKEA, the latter is the only one that I don't have in Mexico (yet), so every time I visit my mom in the States, I make sure it's one of the first places we visit (HECK! I had to visit IKEA even when I travelled to Tokyo, even when it took more than an hour to get there, even when it was the most expensive subway ride ever).

My love for IKEA has made me do an unconventional haul video on my YouTube channel, put picture frames, lamps, EVEN A RUG! inside my luggage... But I love the store, what can I do? I love how its designed, what it stands for (democratising design and making it accessible for everyone), their food court, the Swedish food market... I just love IKEA, okay? So during this trip (and thanks to browsing through Instagram) I decided that I needed to do a photoshoot in the parking lot, I needed to get my love immortalised.

I'll admit it, it was a tough shoot, getting everything to work in my favour (especially the natural light) was a challenge, ignoring people giving me the stink eye because I shot the photos with my tripod and remote next to their precious invaluable cars and stupid stuff like that... But in the end, I was super pleased with the results, I was able to frame my love for IKEA in a photo, share it with the world on social media (because I'm not ashamed to say how much I love this store) and express my love for it a bit of a fashion twist... Who knows? Maybe one day, IKEA will repost my photos or (even better) will offer to partner up with me and create amazing love-filled content, haha!

Stories To Tell 5
If you've been coming back here for a while, you already know that each month comes with its own theme, one that works itself through all the posts that go live during those thirty days; when I choose the monthly theme, I have a certain scope of what I'll talk about, but life has a funny way of always giving me a bit more to tell than what I originally planned. April has been all about commitment and today I was talking to my sister about the hardships of being a blogger and YouTuber, mostly monetary, but I also told her that not because the industry in Mexico (my main area of work) is tainted it means that I'll give up.

I feel like I still have so much to tell you guys, so much to write about, so many videos to shoot. Every now and then I face creative block, I get stuck and frustrated because (I'm not ashamed to admit it) my content isn't always as good as I want it to be, sometimes that's due to financial restrictions, not having enough enthusiasm, lack of support and sponsorships, you name it. But yes, the thing is, I'm usually contempt with what I post online but a bunch of times I feel like it could've been a lot better.

The internet world is very unpredictable, sometimes it's not about the effort or the message you try to convey, it's more about your looks, connections, money, but I try to not think too much about that. For a few weeks now, I haven't even looked at how many likes my photos on Instagram are getting because (algorithm or not) I know that I won't be satisfied with the results (even when I'm proud of the product I presented), but I know that a number of likes or followers doesn't define or dictate who I am, so I feel this sort of peace in my mind when I forget about the numbers, haha. I still have to tell more of my story, I still got a lot to say and to give to the world and, as long as there's someone out there looking my way, I will keep on creating, keep on committing to my dreams.

Sad Boy, Bad Boy

Sad Boy Bad Boy
Sad Boy Bad Boy 5
I'm wearing:

1. Ripped denim jacket, from Zaful.
2. Sweatshirt with floral embroidery in burgundy, Morris & Co. x H&M.
3. Super skinny jeans in black, from Pull & Bear.
4. Leather Chelsea boots in black, from Frank Wright.
5. Rings, from H&M.
Sad Boy Bad Boy 4
The whole "bad boy" concept and its charm is one that I still haven't managed to fully understand. It's something that Hollywood (and fiction, in general) has created for us: the idea that a guy has to be tough, careless and a little mean to become more attractive. For the longest time, I've battled (inside, in my own thoughts) with that archetype. Sure, I wasn't always as nice as I am now, but I never was a bad boy, I've always been more of a flower boy (you know, sweet, romantic, kind) and I've committed to that concept.

Sadly, it hasn't really gotten me anywhere. If I flashback to one pivotal moment with one of my big love interests from the past, she told me (and I quote): You're what I need but you're not what I want, I want the bad boy... And, just like that, I lost all my chances because, no matter how much I tried and the many times I confessed after that, I was always the "really nice guy who'll find love with a great girl... Eventually". Well, friends, here I am a few years later, still single, still looking for her

Every time I get sad about this particular topic, I think about being more of a bad boy, you know, being a little harsher, careless, rebellious even, but I just can't, I don't think it's in me. I was listening to a song the other day that said something like "how come being such a sad girl, makes me wanna be a bad girl?" and it resonated: every time I let my sad boy side overcome me, I want to become a bad boy, it never works; so when I start to feel better, I come to terms with myself again and embrace my inner flower boy again. Will I ever be able to understand why girls like bad boys? Will I ever be able to become one? It's not something I want, of course, but it might be useful, don't you think?
