numbre seven the stranger 2 When my mom told me she was getting married, I couldn't believe it. Not because I thought she would never marry again but because everything was really rushed. She went to California on an exploration trip (her boyfriend-husband lives there) and, a few days before, she said to me: "Henry, there's a chance that I'm not coming back" and I didn't quite believe her. 10 days later, I received a message with the wedding's date and everything. Now that shocked me.

Normally, you're the one who leaves the nest when you're feeling ready, you leave your childhood home behind to start your own thing. Well, that wasn't the case with me, my mom was the one who left and I stayed in the house that I've known for my whole life and, suddenly, it felt like a different place. Throughout the whole "getting married" process, I felt like a stranger. My house didn't feel like my house without my mom in it, the new place in California made me feel like a stranger too because it was filled with people I didn't know (really nice people, tho). In a month's span, I became a stranger.

Eventually, that got better. I realised that, if I managed to live on my own once, I could do it on my own again. My mom is off having a different life and I'm supposed to do the same. I'm supposed to find where I want to go and how to get there. It's true, I needed to let that part of my life go, to close one cycle and begin again. Four months later, I can tell you that I'm doing okay; of course, some days are hard and others are easy but I'm managing; I'm getting familiar with the fact of being by myself and that, my friends, is priceless.
