"It's Pure..."

"It's pure, Cassie. All it is is you... me... and the world sees what we want." That's a quote from Skins, from a Cassie episode (my favourite character) and, quite honestly, it's a way of living. This month is about being awake, realising things, and here's the first one I have for you: the world sees what you want and nothing else. We're living in the social media age, a time where every single thing we do, since dawn till dawn, can be recorded and posted online (and, trust me, it is).

I've been a blogger for a long time now and I've really tried to keep this space real, social media included, because it's the way I am, I don't have to lie and tell you my life is a certain way when it's not. That's me, not everyone's like that. For better or worse, we're in charge of the things we share online and you should never believe 100% the things you're seeing; there are visual filters, verbal filters, you might be having a bad day but that doesn't reflect on the perfect polished photo you uploaded... Stuff like that. I'm not saying everything is a lie, I'm just giving some advice: take everything with a pinch of salt.

That's one side of the spectrum, there's another. The other day I went to Sacramento looking for a really cool mural and the rarest thing happened when I found it: the street was empty, the light was just right and everything was perfect, that photoshoot went so smoothly (that doesn't happen often)... And then it hit me, it was a pure moment, it was me, the mural and the camera, now the world will see what I choose to show and that's that. No lies, no complications, just pure bliss.

Este mes se trata de estar despierto, darse cuenta de cosas, y aquí está la primera que tengo para compartir: el mundo ve lo que quieres que vea y nada más. Vivimos en la era de las redes sociales, un momento donde cada cosa que hacemos, desde la mañana hasta la noche, puede ser documentada y publicada en línea (y, créanme, sucede).

He sido blogger por un largo tiempo ya y realmente he tratado de mantener este espacio real, incluyendo redes sociales, porque así es como soy, no tengo que mentir y decirles que mi vida es de cierta manera cuando no lo es. Así soy yo, no todo el mundo es igual. Para bien o para mal, estamos a cargo de las cosas que compartimos online y jamás hay que creer 100% las cosas que estamos viendo; hay filtros visuales, filtros verbales, quizá estés teniendo un mal día pero eso no se refleja en la foto perfecta que publicaste... Cosas así. No estoy diciendo que todo es una mentira, sólo quiero dar un consejo: tomen todo lo que vean con una pizca de sal.

Eso es un lado del espectro, hay otro. Hace unos días fui a Sacramento en busca de un mural muy padre y la cosa más rara sucedió cuando lo encontré: la calle estaba vacía, la luz era la adecuada y todo salió perfecto, esas fotos salieron tan fácil (eso no sucede seguido)... Y fue ahí que me di cuenta, fue un momento puro, fui yo, el mural y la cámara, ahora el mundo verá lo que elijo mostrarle y eso es todo. No mentiras, no complicaciones, sólo pureza.
