Dear Sacramento

I'm wearing: 

1. Oversized club masters, from Ray Ban. 

2. 3/4 sleeve hoodie in blue, from Adidas (bought at a thrift store).

3. Basic t-shirt in grey/lavender, from H&M.

4. Super skinny jeans in black, from Pull & Bear. 

5. Black and white sneakers, from GOLA.

A  few months ago, one of my close friends told me that I should watch this movie called Lady Bird, I think it was partly because it's set in Sacramento but I also feel like the plot had a little bit to do with that. Basically, Lady Bird is a story about hating where you are but kind of loving it as well; it's a dark comedy at times but it has this eery sense of nostalgia to it that I really, really loved; it shows how we connect with our parents, with our best friends and with the places we live in. 

I happened to watch it during my trip to Sacramento and I think that watching it while I was there really changed the whole way I absorbed it, you know? There's this one scene near the ending where they show you a lot of iconic places around Sacramento and that made me think about how much this city has given me over the past few years (and I say this with a hint of sadness because I won't be coming back in the near future, my mom is moving elsewhere pretty soon). That's why I chose the blue house that's featured in the movie as the backdrop for these photos. 

So, dear Sacramento, thank you so much for all the amazing spots you've given me to snap photos, for all the murals and sculptures and cafés; for all the weird people I saw on the streets, for all the long walks I took to get from place to place. Thank you Sacramento because you reminded me how it feels to fall in love at first sight (with a Tumblr girl, nonetheless), because you gave me some of the best ice cream I've ever had and some of the worst too, haha; for making me feel confident about moving somewhere else and actually finding out a bit more about myself. Dear Sacramento, I had some amazing and some really bad experiences but, overall, I'll always remember you with so, so, so much love. 

// Una de mis amigas cercanas me dijo hace unos meses que debería ver esta película llamada Lady Bird, creo que parcialmente porque está situada en Sacramento pero también siento que la trama tiene que ver con eso. Básicamente, Lady Bird es una historia sobre odiar dónde estás pero también amarlo un poco; es una comedia obscura a veces pero tiene este peculiar sentido de nostalgia que realmente amé; muestra cómo conectamos con nuestros padres, con nuestros mejores amigos y con los lugares en que vivimos. 

Por coincidencia, la vi justo durante este viaje a Sacramento y creo que verla mientras estaba ahí realmente cambió la forma en que la absorbí, ¿saben? Hay una escena cera del final donde de enseñan muchos de los lugares icónicos en Sacramento y eso me hizo pensar en todo lo que esta ciudad me ha dado en los últimos años (y digo esto con una noción de tristeza porque no estaré regresando en el futuro próximo, mi mamá se mudará a otro lado muy pronto). Por eso es que elegí la casa azul que es importante en la película como el escenario para estas fotos. 

Así que, querido Sacramento, muchas gracias por todos los lugares grandiosos que me diste para tomar fotos, por todos los murales y esculturas y cafés; por toda la gente rara que vi en las calles, por las largas caminatas que tomé para ir de lugar en lugar. Gracias Sacramento porque me recordaste qué se siente enamorarse a primera vistas (y de una niña Tumblr, claro que sí), porque me diste de los mejores y los peores helados que he probado, jaja; por hacerme sentir seguro de mudarme a otros lados e incluso conocerme un poquito mejor. Querido Sacramento, tuve muy buenas y muy malas experiencias pero, en general, siempre te voy a recordar con mucho, mucho amor.
