Why is EUPHORIA a relevant show in 2019?

Is it the amazing crazy make up? The racial diversity in its cast? Maybe. Euphoria is this fairly recent show from HBO and I like to refer to it as the new Skins, because I see some similarities between the two (although I think Skins had way better character development and plot lines), yet I still got super excited after hearing that Euphoria would be airing. I like Zendaya but I don't necessarily love her character (Rue); after watching the whole season, I realised that I don't have a favourite character, there's something I like about everyone and something I heavily dislike too.

But going back to the title of this post, why is Euphoria relevant? Sure, it has some dazzling scenes, I love how it's filmed, edited, directed and all that, but I think that the main reason why Euphoria is gaining momentum is because it's current, like, nudes are our currency current, haha; one of the main characters (Jules) is a trans girl and I love how that doesn't even matter, it's just there; they mostly talk about sexuality as an spectrum where no one is 100% one thing and they say it in such a casual way, I find that very refreshing.

A few of the plot lines are very strange and some characters are not developed that well; I think if you're very strict and have a black or white kind of personality, you might not like this show; if you're a very conservative person, you might not like this show; if you're very extravagant, you might enjoy it for different reasons (like the fashion or makeup choices)... With this I mean it's not a show for everyone but that's the thing, being more open-minded and learning isn't something everyone can do. So, if you watched it or if you plan to watch it, think about the state of the world in 2019 and how it is portrayed, think about why it feels current and if you don't feel it is, do some digging, some exploring, you might discover something new and different along the way... Oh, by the way, it's been renewed for a second season! (:

Euphoria es este show reciente de HBO y me gusta referirme a él como el nuevo Skins, porque veo algunas similitudes entre ambos (aunque creo que Skins tenía un desarrollo de personajes e historia mejores), aún así me emocioné muchísimo cuando supe que Euphoria se estrenaría. Me gusta Zendaya pero no necesariamente amo su personaje (Rue); después de ver la temporada completa, me di cuenta que no tengo un personaje favorito, hay algo que amo de todos y algo que realmente me cae mal también.

Pero volviendo al título de este post, ¿por qué es relevante Euphoria? Claro, tiene escenas muy artísticas, me encanta cómo está filmado, editado, dirigido y todo eso, pero creo que la razón principal por la que Euphoria está ganando momentum es porque es actual, nivel, las nudes son nuestra moneda de cambio actual, jaja; uno de los personajes principales (Jules) es una niña trans y amo cómo eso ni es importante, sólo está ahí; principalmente hablan de cómo la sexualidad es un espectro donde nadie es 100% una cosa y lo dicen en una forma tan casual, encuentro eso interesante.

Algunas de las tramas son muy extrañas y ciertos personajes no están muy bien desarrollados; creo que si eres muy estricto y tienes una personalidad de blanco o negro, tal vez no te guste este programa; si eres una persona muy conservadora, tal vez no te guste este programa; si eres muy extravagante, tal vez lo disfrutes por diferentes razones (como la ropa o el maquillaje)... Con esto me refiero a que no es una serie para todos pero ahí está la cosa, ser más abierto de mente y aprender no es algo que todos pueden hacer. Así que, si la has visto o planeas verla, piensa en el estado del mundo en 2019 y cómo lo muestran, piensa en por qué se siente actual y si no sientes que lo sea, investiga un poco, explora algo, quizá descubras algo nuevo e interesante en el camino... Oh, por cierto, ya la renovaron para una segunda temporada (:
