Fictional Fashion Star

Back in November, I was invited to my first fashion event. WOW. Amazing. It was the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M launch party. It was a really cool event and I remember being dazzled by the glamour and champagne. I said to myself: "this is definitely a world I want to be a part of", then a couple more events followed and I was ecstatic. Now, sober of my dizziness, I'm able to analyze more details.

Don't get me wrong, I love the fashion events and I'm very grateful for the invitations I receive; I still want to be a part of the fashion industry. I enjoy fashion very much. But now I've seen different layers in these events, more so after attending one fashion party at L.A. Here's what I discovered (because I've seen it in some events):

1. In Mexico (I'll only talk about Mexican fashion events), people who are on TV have priority over fashion-related-oriented people (when it comes to invitations and gift bags and stuff). That sucks.

2. Some of those celebrities (and many bloggers) don't seem to understand the brief in fashion event very well (when it comes to styling and dressing themselves). When you try harder, you look better.

3. Most of the fashion people I've met have been very nice and kind, really good people but; there's a few who are incredibly rude and walk "with their noses in the air". That saddens me. Remember: being friendly is one of the easiest things in the world. So be nice!

4. Other than that, fashion events are really cool. The PR teams are awesome. The drinks are always great, the press kits too! I have tons of fun, but I'd really like to see the Mexican people raise the bar and try harder when it comes to their personal style (and their manners), because YOLO and stuff.

What do you guys think? I really want to know! Maybe this honest letter is just me being too much of a fictional fashion star, but hey, that's how I feel it happens...

// En noviembre, fui invitado a mi primer evento de moda. WOW. Increíble. Fue la fiesta de lanzamiento de Maison Martin Margiela para H&M. Estuvo súper padre; recuerdo estar deslumbrado por el glamour y el champagne. Me dije: "éste es, definitivamente, un mundo del que quiero ser parte"; luego siguieron un par de eventos más y yo estaba extasiado. Ahora, sobrio de mi mareo, soy capaz de analizar más detalles. 

No me malentiendan. Amo los eventos de moda y estoy muy agradecido por las invitaciones que recibo; aún quiero ser parte de la industria de la moda. Disfruto mucho eso. Pero ahora he visto distintas facetas en estos eventos, muchas más después de haber ido a una fiesta de moda en Los Angeles. Aquí está lo que descubrí (porque lo he visto en algunos eventos):

1. En México (sólo hablaré de los eventos de moda mexicanos), la gente que sale en la tele tiene prioridad (en cuanto a invitaciones, bolsas de regalo y esas cosas) sobre la gente involucrada y orientada hacia la moda. Súper chafa.

2. Algunas de esas celebridades (y varios bloggers) no parecen entender el brief en evento de moda cuando se trata de estilar y vestirse. Echarle más ganas = verse mejor.

3. Casi todas las personas de moda que he conocido han sido muy amables, grandes personas pero; también ha habido unos cuantos que son muy engreídos y caminan "con la nariz al aire". Eso me pone triste. Recuerden: ser amigable es una de las cosas más fáciles en el mundo. ¡Sean amables!

4. Quitando eso, los eventos de moda son una cosa muy padre. Los equipos de RP son súper buena onda. Las bebidas siempre son buenas, ¡los kits de prensa también! Me divierto mucho, pero en serio me gustaría ver que la gente mexicana subiera los estándares y le echara más ganas con su estilo personal (y sus modales) porque YOLO y así.

¿Qué opinan ustedes? Me interesa mucho saber lo que piensan al respecto. Quizá soy sólo yo siendo un poco muy estrella de moda ficticia, pero así siento que pasa esto...

Quirkiness Attempt #1294

I'm wearing:

I've seen those editorials where people make funny faces and create strange twisted poses. They're known as a quirky photoshoot and I love them. So, I wanted to try something similar for an outfit post with mixed results. Sure, I think the 5 photos here look cool but they're just a little island in a sea of horrible, horrible, pictures. Sadly, I'm not naturally quirky.

But I definitely tried, though. When it comes to the outfit, I think simple combos work better with my pink hair, I wouldn't want to saturate your poor little eye-balls with too many visual stimuli, haha. I rarely do double denim but I discovered that my real issue with it comes in the form of blue jeans with another blue piece. I don't like that. Dark or light blue with white or black denim is cool.

Pink hair makes me feel closer to my dream animal: the unicorn. I once did a test to find out your spiritual beast or some trippy thing like that and (after reloading the results page a couple times) the unicorn was my result, that's like a match made in heaven, isn't it?. I know that they're not real but I love the fantasy aspect that they bring with them. That's why I've been wearing this necklace A LOT.

// He visto esos editoriales donde las personas hacen caras chistosas y posan torciéndose raramente. Se les conoce como sesiones de fotos "quirky" y yo las amo (o "peculiares" en español, pero peculiar realmente se me hace un adjetivo vacío). Así que intenté ir por algo similar con resultados variados. Claro, las cinco fotos que presento aquí tienen onda pero son sólo una pequeña isla en un mar de fotos horribles, horribles. Tristemente, no soy naturalmente quirky.

¡Pero por supuesto que lo intenté! Cuando se trata del atuendo, creo que las combinaciones simples funcionan mejor con mi cabello rosa. No quisiera saturar sus pobres pequeños ojos con demasiado estímulo visual, jeje. Rara vez hago doble mezclilla pero descubrí que mi gran problema con eso viene en la forma de jeans azules con algo azul arriba. No me gusta eso. Azul claro u obscuro con mezclilla blanca o negra está bien.

El cabello rosa me hace sentir más cercano a mi animal de los sueños: el unicornio. Una vez hice un test para descubrir cuál era tu bestia espiritual o alguna tontería hippie de esas y (tras actualizar la página de resultados mil veces) salió el unicornio como mi bestia ideal. Una pareja hecha por los dioses. Sé que no son reales pero me encanta el aspecto de fantasía que traen consigo. Por eso he usado mucho este collar. MUCHO.

Rebecca Minkoff Denim X Lookbook.nu Launch Party

I was able to go to a party hosted by the guys at Lookbook.nu and it was pretty cool. It was the launch of Rebecca Minkoff's Denim. I really love altruism and the fact that so many brands are helping kids in need is amazing. For every pair of Rebecca Minkoff jeans you buy, you can help by feeding a child roughly 20 meals. 

// Tuve la oportunidad de ir a una fiesta hecha por la gente de Lookbook.nu y estuvo bastante buena onda. Fue por el lanzamiento de Rebecca Minkoff's Denim. Me encanta el altruismo y el hecho de que tantas marcas estén ayudando a niños, eso es increíble. Por cada par de jeans Rebecca Minkoff que la gente compre, ayudas alimentando a un niño con 20 comidas.

The party was held at Confederacy, a super cool boutique in Hollywood Boulevard. It's like a big house with a garden that separates the women's section from the men's. The dressing rooms are telephone cabins, there are cool vintage items (phones, notebooks, lamps) everywhere and the pieces featured looked pretty rad.

La fiesta sucedió en Confederacy, una boutique bien padre en Hollywood Boulevard. Es como una casa enorme con un jardín que separa la sección de mujeres y la de hombres. Los vestidores son cabinas de teléfono, hay cosas antiguas (teléfonos, libros, libretas) por todos lados y las piezas de ropa mostradas estaban bien padres.

I met tons of cool people, including Holly Parker (pictured with me), she's a model and a singer. I met Sunny from the Lookbook.nu team who was really nice and sweet. And a couple of other fashion bloggers, such as Michelle Madsen from Take Aim and the ever-so-lovely Camay from Reflekt Mag. I loved that people were nicely dressed and that it was a very different vibe comparing it to the Mexican events I've been into. It was a great party with Vitamin Water drinks and a graffiti wall. Conocí a mucha gente buena onda, incluyendo a Holly Parker (en la foto conmigo), es una modelo y cantante. Conocí a Sunny del equipo de Lookbook.nu que fue muy linda y amable. Y a un par más de bloggers de moda, como Michelle Madsen de Take Aim y la siempre encantadora Camay de Reflekt Mag. Me encantó que la gente estaba muy bien vestida y que el ambiente se sintió muy distinto a los eventos mexicanos a los que he ido. Oh, you Eye-Hole!

I'm wearing:

I like to create fantasies about weather on my head. Like when it's sunny outside, I add some winter piece of clothing or accessory to make me feel I out-smarted mother nature (most of the times she wins, though). 

I received this EYE-HOLE a few days ago and it's pretty cool. I always carry sunglasses with me and yes, they're protected in a case and stuff but storing them and getting them out all the time is really annoying. I like the Eye-Hole because the glasses are secure and on-hand when needed (or should I say neck?). It's also a nice necklace.

What do you do when it's hot outside but you want to wear winter clothes? Do you succumb to the weather pressure or have another strategy? And what do you think about the Eye-Hole? Would you wear it? Let me know!

// Me gusta crear fantasías en mi cabeza sobre el clima. Como cuando hay mucho sol afuera, añado alguna pieza o accesorio invernal para hacerme sentir que fui más listo que la madre naturaleza (aunque la mayoría de las veces ella es la que gana).

Hace poquito recibí este EYE-HOLE y está bastante buena onda. Siempre cargo lentes de sol conmigo y sí, van protegidos en su estuche y todo pero guardarlos y sacarlos todo el tiempo es molesto. Me gusta el Eye-Hole porque los lentes viajan seguros y están a la mano cuando se necesitan (o debería decir al cuello?). También es un bonito collar.

Infamous NERD!

I'm wearing:

Sometimes, I'm a nerd. I read, A LOT, that doesn't turn me into a nerd. I read the Percy Jackson saga AND Game Of Thrones, that kind of does. Haha. There's something very geeky about this outfit and, truth be told, I can't seem to point what's the reason. 

I don't want to make the glasses responsible for anything but, when I wear them, I instantly feel smarter. Maybe it's because all smart fantasy/fiction writers seem to wear glasses, maybe it's only because they allow me to see better. Who knows? I know that I want to be a fantasy and fiction writer, so wearing glasses do make me feel like I'm one step closer to that goal. Writing everyday helps too, haha.

When you have pink hair, wearing colorful pieces becomes way more difficult. I don't know if red or pink jeans or a turquoise shirt are a little too much for the eye to handle. What do you think? Should I stick to black/white classic outfits or should I try to pull off some colors? On another note, I was hanging out with my friend Fanny and, suddenly, we bumped into that door and I just had to take the photos there, isn't it super cool? I love the little lions.

// A veces soy un nerd. Leo, MUCHO, eso no me hace ñoño. Leí las sagas de Percy Jackson Y Game Of Thrones, eso creo que me convierte en uno. Jaja. Hay algo de ñoñez en este atuendo y, siendo honestos, no puedo señalar la razón.

No quiero hacer a los lentes responsables por algo pero, cuando los uso, me hacen sentir más listo. Quizá es porque todos los escritores listos de ciencia ficción y fantasía suelen usar lentes, tal vez es sólo porque me permiten ver mejor. Quién sabe. Sé que quiero ser un escritor de fantasía y ficción, así que usar lentes en serio hace que me sienta un paso más cerca de la meta. Escribir todos los días también ayuda, jaja.

Cuando tienes cabello rosa, usar piezas coloridas se vuelve mucho más difícil. No sé si jeans rojos o rosas o una camisa turquesa serán demasiado estímulo visual para los ojos de la gente. ¿Ustedes qué piensan? ¿Debería mantenerme con atuendos clásicos en blanco y negro o debería intentar lucir colores? En otras noticias, estaba con mi amiga Fanny y, de repente, nos cruzamos con esa puerta y sólo sabía que debía tomar las fotos ahí. ¿No está bien padre? Amo los pequeños leones.

50 Shades Of PINK.

Pink hair has been my fantasy hair for months. Really, I've been craving it for so long and having it truly feels magical. Some days I feel like I have a pixie villa on my head; others, it's like having a cotton candy head and; often enough, I feel like a candy version of the lovechild of Andy Warhol and some punk -skinny- model. Welcome to 50 Shades Of Pink, starring: me.

Don't get me wrong, I love my pink hair; I just tend to love it more when the strong color washes away and I'm left with a nice variation of pinks (mostly pastel or peach). The shade of these photos is more fuchsia than what I would have wanted but I decided to style it (and, hopefully, balance) with a gray/black outfit, everything fitted and elevated with creepers, feathers and studs.

I feel more of a rockstar now that I have this hair and, also, this look is sort of the sequel to my (C)Andy Warhol one. I tried to create this character called Candy Warhol, using his poses, angst and different faces. I mean, it's all about embracing fantasy plus fiction to produce some magic, right? The pixies in my head seem to agree with me. Now, you tell me what you think! (:

// El cabello rosa ha sido mi cabello de fantasía por meses. En serio, lo he deseado por meses y, por fin, tenerlo se siente mágico. Algunos días siento que tengo una villa de hadas en mi cabeza; otros, es como tener cabeza de algodón de azúcar y; más seguido de lo que desearía, me siento como una versión de dulce del hijo de amor entre Andy Warhol y alguna modelo punk (flaca). Bienvenidos a 50 Shades Of Pink, protagonista: yo.

No me malentiendan, amo mi cabello rosa; sólo tiendo a amarlo más cuando el color fuerte se deslava y me quedo con una linda variación de rosas (más pasteles o color durazno). El tono de estas fotos es más fuchsia de lo que me habría gustado pero decidí estilarlo (y espero, crear balance) con un atuendo en negro y gris, todo entallado y elevado con creepers, plumas y estoperoles.

Me siento más rockero con este cabello y, también, este atuendo es como la secuela al anterior que hice de (C)Andy Warhol. Traté de crear a este personaje llamado Candy Warhol, usando sus poses, angustia y distintas muecas. Digo, al final del día todo se trata de abrazar la fantasía más la ficción y producir un poco de magia ¿no es así? Las hadas en mi cabeza parecen estar de acuerdo conmigo. ¡Ahora ustedes díganme qué piensan!

Fashion TV Mexico. The Re.Launch.

2 weeks ago I was invited to the re-launch of Fashion TV in Mexico. The network disappeared a few years ago and transformed into Glitz TV. I used to watch FTV quite often. Hearing it was coming back made me smile. The channel's returning full-force by doing shows in Cancun, and supporting Mexican talent in every fashion aspect.

The event was held at Nobu, in Mexico City. Nobu is a prestigious Japanese restaurant, needless to say, THE FOOD WAS AMAZING. There was a little show with flapper girls, a speech from the big boss people of the channel and the rest was a party-vibe cocktail. Hearing it was Fashion TV I expected to see pretty well dressed people but I was a little disappointed, the emphasis turned out to be on the TV instead of the FASHION.

However, some guests (mostly models) fulfilled the brief and showed up with coolness and great clothes. I met a super nice actress (called Daniela, pictured above in the white long dress) that added a necklace from her grandma into her outfit. I loved that. I also met the coolest model (Yulianna, in the white jacket) who was awesome and had an amazing choice for outfit. We were instantly friends. Near the end, I saw Gaby from Moda Capital who gave me some heart-warming advice on blogging. Thanks, you're the best.

// Hace dos semanas fui invitado al re-lanzamiento de Fashion TV en México. El canal desapareció hace un par de años y se convirtió en Glitz TV. Yo solía ver FTV muy seguido. Escuchar que volvía me hizo sonreír. El canal regresa con mucha fuerza al hacer shows en Cancún y apoyar constantemente al talento mexicano en cada aspecto de la industria de la moda.

El evento fue en Nobu, en la Ciudad de Mexico. Nobu es un restaurante japonés prestigioso, no hace falta mencionar, LA COMIDA FUE INCREÍBLE. Hubo un pequeño show con flappers, un discurso de los grandes jefes del canal y el resto fue un cocktail con vibra de fiesta. Al escuchar que era Fashion TV, esperaba ver personas vestidas muy padre pero estuve un poquito decepcionado, el énfasis estuvo más en TV que en FASHION.

Sin embargo, algunos de los invitados (principalmente los modelos) cumplieron con el brief y se presentaron con buena onda y ropa padre. Conocí a una actriz súper amable (llamada Daniela, vista en la foto de hasta arriba en un vestido largo y blanco) que añadió un collar de su abuela a su atuendo. Amé eso. También conocí a la modelo más buena onda (Yulianna, con la chamarra blanca) que fue increíble y eligió muy bien su atuendo. Nos hicimos amigos instantáneamente. Cerca del final, vi a Gaby de Moda Capital que me dio consejos de corazón sobre bloggear.

Candy Warhol (Collab with Dents UK)

Not only this is the official debut of my pink-pink hair, these photos also mark the first time I collaborate with the amazing UK brand: DENTS. They exist since 1777 and they even made a pair of gloves for the Queen of England. Pretty cool, huh? Now, they continue to do gloves in different materials (including faux fur and leather), and they expanded their reach by adding cufflinks, bags, wallets, hats and socks to their catalogue. 

Since forever, I've wanted some cool gloves. Dents has so many but I chose a classic design that's really comfortable and sort of ethereal looking. Also they feel like little hugs on my hands and that's beautiful. 

For the photos, I tried to channel my inner Andy Warhol essence. The look was inspired by the 50's-60's mod culture mixed with pure pop in the form of cotton candy hair. For the second part of the shoot, I wore a faux leather/fur hat that is a little quirky; therefore, my vibe changed from zen Warhol to pure Candy. A versatile hat like this one is a true key piece on a guy's wardrobe. Seriously.

// No sólo es éste el debut oficial de mi cabello rosa-rosa, estas fotos también marcan la primera vez que colaboro con la marca británica muy buena onda: DENTS. Existen desde 1977 y hasta le hicieron un par de guantes a la reina de Inglaterra. Súper padre ¿no? Ahora siguen haciendo guantes en diferentes materiales (incluyendo piel y pelo falso), y expandieron su alcance al añadir mancuernillas, bolsos, carteras, sombreros y calcetines a su catálogo.

Desde siempre he querido guantes buena onda. Dents tiene tantos... pero elegí un diseño clásico que es muy cómodo y tiene un aire etéreo. Además se sienten como miles de abracitos en mis manos y eso es hermoso.

Para las fotos traté de canalizar al Andy Warhol que llevo dentro. El atuendo está inspirado por la cultura mod de los 50's-60's mezclado con puro pop en forma de pelo rosa como algodón de azúcar. Para la segunda parte de la sesión usé un sombrero de piel falsa que es chistosón; por eso, mi vibra cambió de Warhol zen a puro "Candy". Un sombrero versátil como el que uso es una verdadera pieza clave en el armario de todo hombre. No miento.
