The Crew

When I first started blogging, I did it for myself; I uploaded looks and wrote small texts about them, like a personal fashion journal. Almost a year after that, I started collaborating with brands and going to events and stuff. I was a bit dazzled by all of it but I had a great time. I met some people along the way and, just like in school, groups were formed and, eventually, fell apart.

A bunch of parties, photo-shoots and collabs later, I think I've found my place. I met people with whom I share interests, work ethic and many more traits. I found co-workers who became friends. This is a small homage to that, to the idea that you can actually work with people and be mates with them. These girls give me hope and, in a crappy environment like the Mexican bloggosphere filled with bullies and mean people, I'm glad that I found them.

Don't forget to show them girls some love on social media by following them!

Book Club #10: Around The World In 80 Days

Hello there, best friends! By now you should know that I'm doing an online book club, right here on the blog. While it's not tightly related to fashion, reading is one of my favorite activities and I do think people within the fashion industry (and everyone else too, really) need to read things other than magazines. This book is one of those classics that people say you must read and all that. I honestly found this on a pile of books that I was going to donate but I had a second thought and kept it. Little did I know, it was a gift for me back in 1999! Book Club #10 is Around The World In 80 Days, by Jules Verne.

// ¡Hola mejores amigos! El Book Club #10 es Around The World In 80 Days, de Jules Verne.
It's an impossible task; no one can go around the world in 80 days... Nowadays, that sounds ridiculous (I mean, we can probably go around the world in 48 hours or less) but it's important to understand that the year was 1872 and things weren't flying at the time. This novel tells the story of two very different men: Phileas Fogg (an eccentric millionaire accustomed to a strict routine and; his valet Jean, better known as Passepartout (who's more adventurous and unattached to commodities).

They soon find themselves in a bet with Fogg's friends to prove that a tour around the world can be achieved in 80 days or less. As you may imagine, this journey teaches them both traits about themselves, about others and, most importantly, about life and how it is, sometimes, unpredictable. I chose to read this book this month because of the theme: a goal was set and it doesn't really matter if they accomplish it or not, the important thing is what they learn in the process. Like Hannah Montana once said: it's all about the climb.

I almost threw the towel with this one. The first half of the novel moves so slowly, it's almost boring. Jules Verne is definitely a master when it comes to describing EVERY single aspect of the situation and, as much as I appreciate that, it's a bit too much for modern times. The second half, however, moves very fast and it's filled with action. Although a little predictable, Around The World In 80 Days succeeds in making us remember an important lesson (or two): a gentleman always keeps his word and; every journey leads us to many roads with unexpected results. And for that lesson, I'm grateful.

Como Hannah Montana dijo alguna vez: it's all about the climb.

Have you read this novel? What do you think of it? Let me know!
Love always,
Hen.

Magnum French Patisserie

Every time I think of France, for some reason or the other, I imagine string quartets, narrow streets with stone tiles, cafés and Vespas. I know it's a cliché but, hey, it's a nice cliché. A couple days ago, I was invited to this really nice dinner party hosted by Magnum (the ice cream bar brand) and the whole night was inspired by French patisserie and Parisian style.

They transformed a museum into a Parisian street, there were musicians, ice cream bars and everything was very, very cool. This was an adaptation of the Magnum 5 Kisses campaign that focuses on the flavors that are most French (crème brûlée, tiramisu, tarte aux pommes). Overall, it was a really fun night with delicious treats. Thanks Magnum!
