shrinking violet 6 Hello best friends; I heard the expression shrinking violet the other day and it stuck with me ever since. By definition, a shrinking violet is an extremely shy person, to the point where he's almost invisible; it's someone who's not a big fan of speaking up when in large groups and is hesitant to share his opinions within those. I am like that sometimes and I've learned to be okay with that.

During my school years, I always relied on one or two people to be my closest friends; those were the guys I'd do everything with. Starting from high school, I tried to get involved with more people, to be nicer and mingle (while still keeping those close friends, well, close). That proved to work wonderfully; people were noticing me, they knew who I was and appreciated me just because I said hello or had small conversations with them, that was amazing. But that also made me realize that I kind of fall in the background when it comes to big groups of people. I get shy and nervous, so I focus on talking to one or two people from the group and being as charming as possible.

Being a shrinking violet is okay from time to time. It gives you a good chance to observe and analyze situations without getting too involved. You start noticing things and, let us never forget, that information is power. I don't like being around many people but my shrinking violet traits help me figure out how to be a team player and become a key character in said team. It allows me to choose the people I want to be closer with. And, for me and many other guys, shyness is sort of charming, you know? So allow yourself to be shy when you feel like it. It's okay.

  1. Wonderful that you start to get out of your comfort zone and talk to new people, but I agree on just being your true self.
