Set In Stone

Very few things in life are permanent. Think about it: you start as a kid, living with your parents, going to school, playing with friends, passing exams... All of the sudden, you're a teenager and the world looks and feels different than before: now you have to worry about gracefully overcoming puberty, looking good, school, friends, girlfriends, passing exams, growing taller... And life goes on and on, transforming.

Life is filled with change. Things that were important a couple years ago, don't interest you anymore. People come and go and nothing is set in stone. Like I said, very few things in life are permanent; I think it's important to acknowledge that flexibility is a big part of us and that we shouldn't be too hard on ourselves because, guess what, life progresses, new challenges and priorities will arrive.

So, as much as today feels like forever, remember that it's not. Yesterday's mistakes stay in the past (most of them, anyways) and we must see every new day as sort of a blank canvas, nothing is set in stone and it's up to us to change the things we don't like about our lives, no one is going to that for us. Follow my advice and start letting go of old burdens, treasure your battle scars but be prepared to move on...

// Muy pocas cosas en la vida son permanentes. Piénsenlo: comenzamos como niños, viviendo en familia, yendo a la escuela, jugando con amigos, pasando exámenes... De repente, ya eres un adolescente y el mundo se ve y siente diferente: ahora hay que preocuparse por pasar la pubertad con gracia, verse bien, el colegio, los amigos, las novias, pasar exámenes, ser más altos... Y la vida sigue y sigue, transformándose. 

La vida está llena de cambios. Cosas que eran importantes hace unos años, te dejan de interesar. La gente viene y va y nada está tallado en piedra. Como dije, muy pocas cosas en la vida son permanentes; creo que es importante reconocer que la flexibilidad es gran parte de lo que hacemos y que no deberíamos ser tan duros con nosotros mismos porque, saben qué, la vida progresa, nuevas prioridades y desafíos llegarán.

Así que, sin importar qué tanto hoy se siente como para siempre, recuerden que no es así. Los errores de ayer se quedan en el pasado (la mayoría, al menos) y debemos ver cada día como una especie de lienzo en blanco, nada está tallado en piedra y está en nosotros cambiar las cosas que no nos gustan sobre nuestras vidas, nadie lo va hacer por nosotros. Sigan mi consejo y comiencen a dejar ir esos bultos viejos, atesoren sus cicatrices de batalla pero prepárense para salir adelante...
