Bad Decisions

Wisdom #70 Bad Decisions
I rarely tell stories like this one here, but it has been lingering in my mind all day so I figured it would be good to share it with the world. So, the other day I had an event, a skincare one, and it was very far from home; in that area of town, the traffic's pretty nasty so I decided to walk from the subway station to the venue, it was a 22-minute walk which, at 6pm, was a breeze for me. I got to the event and it was really nice, very well crafted, the only thing that was missing were my friends. Nobody showed up, haha.

They were serving sparkling wine (one the drinks that I feel don't hit me so hard) and I made the terrible mistake of drinking too much wine and not enough water so, by the time I decided to leave, I was a bit more than tipsy (not drunk-drunk tho). Well, what do you know? I decided to walk back to the subway station, that was a big mistake, I don't even know how but I managed to catch all the right trains and get close to home. After that, I needed to take a bus (a 10 minute ride from the station to my house) and, just right there, I got into an argument with some police officers... I had to pay a fine (or bribe them? I don't even know anymore) and by the time it all ended, my bus was gone and I had to walk home.

So, it was one bad decision after the other and I woke up feeling super guilty and angry with myself. I got cocky and had too much to drink, I exposed myself to danger by waking for 25 minutes at night, I made a mistake with those greedy policemen... Oh, I could've avoided it all by making smarter, better choices, like not drink that much or called for an Uber to drive me home from the event. Hopefully, this was a learning experience and I'll be able to avoid similar situations in the future. That's all, see ya.

Love always,
Henry.

Growing up is a big, big, learning experience; you start worrying about things that didn't trouble you before and, also, discarding certain ones that don't feel necessary anymore. One of the most important things to have in every single stage of life is reliable friends (even just one friend, the number doesn't really matter), and why is that? Because there are certain moments when you need to confide in others, ask for advice or simply hang out without drama or complications.

When you're in middle school, high school and even in college, it's easy to get sucked into the whole "clique" idea, the fact that you need friends and (apparently) enemies, and that's not really vital, you know? I think we all have our fair share of knowledge when it comes to pop culture, TV shows and movies related to this subject and there's a reason why everything always (at least almost all the time) ends with truces and people moving on: you don't need a nemesis, you don't need enemies and, most of the time, being nicer and having less people against you works to your advantage.

However, growing up has also taught me that, no matter how good your intentions are, there are those who don't have your best interest in mind, for practical reasons, we'll call them foes. They literally have a target on your back and will sabotage, damage and take advantage of you every chance they get; the worse part is they're usually closer than you think, sometimes even posing as friends... So, here's a piece of advice: be nice, be out there, outspoken but also be careful about how much you give out to the world and the people that you choose to rely on; it might sound childish but it's really important to learn how to differentiate those who mean you harm and those who will always have a place in your heart.

Apologies

Wisdom #69 Apologies
I came upon a quote the other day, I think it was on Facebook, that went a little something like this: Apologising doesn't always mean that you were wrong about something, it can also mean that you value your relationship more than you value the fight, and it might've not been exactly that, but that's what stuck to my mind. I think, at times, we fight and refuse to end the fight because it gives us a certain sense of thrill, a rush that, even if it's filled with anger, makes us feel something; the thing is, how much are we paying (emotionally speaking) in order to feel that? And, taking it a step further, is it really worth it?

I don't see myself as a pacifist or peace maker, I defend the things that I feel are worth fighting for, but I've realised lately that sometimes you need to let go of certain emotions in order to move forward in life and apologising is a good way of achieving that. I know that detaching yourself from a situation is difficult and sometimes an apology (when you feel like you did nothing wrong) hurts your pride but; trust me, being the bigger person and ending a conflict in a smart and clever way also counts as a win and feels amazing.

Henry.

2. Chunky knit sweater, from Zara.
3. Super skinny jeans in black, from Pull & Bear.
4. Suede desert boots in grey, from Frank Wright.
5. Rings, from H&M.
I'm on your side 2
You know how there are moments when you need people to tell you things like they are, to make you snap out of it and, thanks to that, you're able to make better decisions? Well, there are also moments when all you need is to feel like there's someone on your side, and I think those are equally as important. The less time we spend thinking that we're alone, the better... Because, even when we're not technically alone, feelings are powerful and they can truly make you go through rough patches with ease.

When you're the other person, and I mean the one that can change how others feel by giving some support, usually it's easy to take things for granted and assume that your friend (or whoever needs you) knows you're there we have to stop making assumptions like that, we need to start being more proactive and forward with our feelings. If you appreciate someone, let them know.

Of course, it's not an easy task; we tend to feel exposed and vulnerable when we are honest and clean about how we feel, when we support others and try to make them feel better, and that can be scary. I believe the main reason why people keep quiet and don't get involved is because they're afraid to hurt and get hurt, but, a big part of being out there in the world is being brave... You never really know how badly a friend might need you on his side unless you actually tell him that you're there. Why don't we try that more often? I think it's good for the soul, don't you?

Dealing With Age Pressure

Age Pressure
I've received my fair share of ridiculous and dumb comments on social media and YouTube, but one of the more recent topics haters seem to particularly enjoy is my age (and they're not even that many  ugly comments, maybe 5 or 10 among every 1000, but yeah). They seem to think that I'm acting "too young" for my age, that I have some sort of Justin Bieber complex (ironically, I'm less than 6 months older than the Biebs), that I should "behave accordingly to my age" or that I shouldn't do or say certain things... It's so annoying.

I hate how the Internet world is obsessed with being young, how it's easy for people to forget that there's an actual person reading their comments on the other side of the screen, it creates pressure on me, age pressure. They have already made me hate growing older but; at the same time, it's a matter of perception, you know? I don't feel like I don't act or look my age (I think I look younger, actually, and most people seem to agree), and I completely fulfill my role as an adult when situations require it; I'm a grown up when I need to be one and I can also be a young guy because, well, I AM YOUNG.

So the only thing I have to say to them is SCREW YOU; I'm still young and have many many things ahead of me, I'll still have fun with my personal style, be funny, sweet and charming. I'll take that age pressure and turn it into fuel to entertain people, to make them have a good time... And if some Internet trolls don't like that about me, they can change the channel and go see someone else, that's the brilliance of social media and all its different platforms, there are hundreds creating content and, hopefully, they'll find something suitable for their (limited) intellect and personality traits, plus they're training me to be more clever with my comebacks without even knowing it, haha.

Love always,
Henry.

September: Out There

September Out There I feel like I got bored by my own imagination...

Hey there best friends! It's a new month, which means a new theme here on the blog! You know how sometimes we get stuck in our comfort zone but it's not until something (or someone) makes us question ourselves that we realise it? I've always thought of myself as a creative individual, the kind of guy who thinks outside the box and comes up with a good approach at the challenges that come at me but, lately, I've been questioning that a lot. Am I really what I think I am? And, also, am I taking the right approach when it comes to life? I'm not so sure anymore.

With that, I don't mean that I'm full of insecurities (I have some, for sure, but that's besides the point), it means that I'm actually confronting myself a lot more and I think that's a good thing. I'm realising that it's not that I got bored by my own imagination and thoughts, it's more of a "how can I do more interesting stuff" kind of thought that has taken over me. I really want to improve, I want to challenge myself and do better things, being more out there.

That's how I chose this month's theme; being out there means being unconventional, present, doing something that might be unexpected from time to time, participating in conversations and stating your own point of view. I think those are all good traits, you know? Sometimes I get in my own way and my "perfectionism" plays against me, so, I feel like this is a good time to step back, analyse and come up with better ways of living and doing the things that need to be done. I hope you like the posts that will come along the way, plus, don't forget that there's a cool new playlist waiting for you, check it out by clicking here!
