It's been a while since I found a hidden corner worth writing a post about but, trust me when I say this, this is a special one. As you probably know (and you should by now), I love Japan, Tokyo is my favourite city in the world and every time I find something similar or inspired by within the places I frequent, my heart gets filled with joy. Enter Marukoshi Bakery.

This is a super small bakery in the southern part of Mexico City and it's just a bit larger than a small room, for real. No tables, no place to sit, only baked goods and a counter with a Japanese cashier. It's supposed to be Japanese style bread but even when I don't really think it is, it's still really good. Their specialty is cute bread, they have a Totoro-inspired pastry and bears filled with cream. Those two are pretty hard to get but (although good) they're not my favourites.

If you go there, don't go with a fixed idea of what you want, let yourself be surprised. I personally love the apple bread (filled with custard and big apple chunks), the curry filled bun and the pecan and cheese bread. Every time I'm around the area, this is an obligatory pitstop. The price range goes from 50 cents to a dollar per piece, it's super affordable and it's a really cool culinary experience; I've never tried bread like this. One thing, tho, make sure you eat your pastries within 12 hours, they don't age well, hahaha.
