Hello, hello best friends! I'm trying to be a better reader and, also, a better blogger these past few weeks and I'm happy to tell you that I found a book that spoke to my heart, that made me feel things and, probably, has become one of my favourites. The goal of this book club section is to prove that you can be into fashion and read more than magazines and books like Girlboss; so finding a great novel really makes my heart burst. Without further ado, Book Club #30 is Kitchen, by Banana Yoshimoto.

Certain moments can change the course of your life... No one is exempted from that. In Banana Yoshimoto's Kitchen, Mikage (the main character) loses her grandmother and is having a hard time dealing with that. Life with her is all she's known and adjusting to the new circumstances doesn't come easy for her. That's when Yuichi comes into the picture, he works in a flower shop and also seems deeply affected by Mikage's grandmother passing, he felt close to her.
Some events lead to Mikage accepting an offer to live with Yuichi and his mother Eriko and that's when she realises that life has new challenges for her, that even when everything seems sad and awry, there's always a new turn around the corner. Kitchen is a story about love, loss and adjustments, it came in with good timing for me and the message it provides still resonates in my head. Life is about you but it's also about the people you share it with.
I think we spend a lot of time questioning why bad things happen to us and, also, why good things don't come to us. In a way, we're looking for justice, but this world isn't fair. We love and we lose, yet the knowledge acquired remains and it's up to us to cultivate it. In Kitchen, Mikage lets herself be defeated, she feels sad but she also learns how to deal with curveballs and, even when the story is short, it's packed with sweetness and life lessons. Definitely a great, great novel.
// Algunos momentos pueden cambiar el curso de tu vida... Nadie está exento a eso. En Kitchen, de Banana Yoshimoto, Mikage (el personaje principal) pierde a su abuela y está teniendo una experiencia difícil lidiando con eso. La vida con ella es todo lo que ha conocido y ajustarse a nuevas circunstancias no le es fácil. Ahí es cuando Yuichi entra a la historia, él trabaja en una florería y también parece estar seriamente afectado por la muerte de la abuela de Mikage, eran cercanos.
Una serie de eventos llevan a Mikage a aceptar una oferta para vivir con Yuichi y Eriko, su madre, y ahí es cuando se da cuenta que la vida tiene mas desafíos nuevos para ella, que aún cuando todo parece ser triste y estar mal, siempre hay una nueva vuelta en la esquina. Kitchen es una historia de amor, pérdida y ajustes, vino en un buen momento para mí y el mensaje que dejó sigue resonando en mi cabeza. La vida se trata de ti pero también se trata de la gente con quien la compartes.
Creo que pasamos mucho tiempo preguntándonos por qué nos suceden cosas malas y, también, por qué lo bueno no llega a nosotros. En cierta forma, estamos buscando justicia, pero este mundo no es justo. Amamos y perdemos, aún así, el conocimiento adquirido permanece con nosotros y debemos cultivarlo. En Kitchen, Mikage se permite ser derrotada, sentirse triste, pero también aprende a lidiar con cosas inesperadas y, aún cuando la historia es corta, está llena de momentos dulces y lecciones de vida. Definitivamente una gran, gran novela.
