What kind of person would you like to be?

Wisdom #63 What Kind Of Person Would You Like To Be
What do you want to be when you grow up? What would be your dream job? I bet you've heard these questions a million times before, haven't you? And, I'm sure that you notice how people reacted to your answers, depending on how much approval they'd earn. We've been raised as career oriented people; the more respectable your choice of job was, the better reaction you'd get. Say, the kid who said he wanted to be a lawyer, a surgeon or a politician would be praised more than the one who would say painter, sailor, singer or chef.

During the past decade or so, we've seen more and more people saying they want to be their own boss, that they want to have their own thing and, sadly, success doesn't always come to their doors. Does that make them less of a person than, say, the doctors, the famous soccer players, the scientists? I don't think so. Maybe if we ask: what kind of person would you like to be when you grow up, instead of a job, people wouldn't feel so pressured to be famous, to be successful, to compete. Maybe if we aimed to be good people, instead of successful entrepreneurs, the world (and daily life) would be a little more bearable.

Love always,
Henry.
