July: Stories

Life's one big story... 

You're in charge of the narrative, never forget that. I wanted to open this letter with a hard fact, one that we tend to forget from time to time. We read fiction novels, or at least I do, because they're a way of transporting myself to a different world, to live a different life, even if the feeling only lasts a few hours; we watch movies roughly because of that too and I think we don't always know how to tell the stories we want the world to hear... Being good with words is a gift, not everyone can do it in the same efficient way but I believe we all have a story (or several stories) to tell.

July's theme is focused on that, the stories that we tell, the ones we have to tell, the ones we need to tell and, also, the ones we avoid to tell. In this social media era, it seems like everyone is talking about something, sharing moments, creating a narrative (especially on Instagram, where you can actually upload daily stories), and sure, it looks appealing because that's what we've been teaching each other for the past few years, that every story we upload and share has to be good, has to feel perfect... Heck, there's people out there (even some colleagues of mine) whose sole purpose is create jealousy amongst their followers so they want to be like them.

During the month, I want to talk about online stories but also offline ones; I wanna try and help you (if you're reading this) to control your narrative or regain said control. I'll share some stories of mine, of people I know, real and fiction, it'll all converge here. I think this is going to be an exciting month and I'm truly loving this theme so far, I hope you do too. La vida es una historia muy grande...  

Y tú estás a cargo de la narrativa, nunca lo olvides. Quise abrir esta carta con un dato duro, uno que tendemos a olvidar con el tiempo. Leemos novelas de ficción, o al menos yo lo hago, porque son una forma de transportaste a otro mundo, de vivir una vida diferente, aún si ese sentimiento sólo dura unas horas; vemos películas un poco por esa misma razón y creo que no siempre sabemos cómo contar las historias que queremos que escuche el mundo... Ser bueno con las palabras es un don, no todo el mundo puede hacerlo en la misma eficiente manera pero creo que todos tenemos una historia (o varias) para contar.

El tema de Julio se enfoca en eso, las historias que contamos, las que tenemos que contar, las que necesitamos contar y, también, las que evadimos decir. En esta era de redes sociales, parece que todo el mundo está hablando de algo, compartiendo momentos, creando una narrativa (especialmente en Instagram, donde de hecho puedes subir historias diariamente), y claro, parece encantador porque así es como nos hemos enseñado a hacerlo en estos últimos años, que toda historia que subimos y compartimos tiene que ser buena, tiene que sentirse perfecta... Es terrible porque conozco gente (algunos colegas que tengo) cuyo único propósito es crear celos entre sus seguidores para que quieran ser como ellos.

Durante el mes, quiero hablar de historias en línea pero también de la vida real; quiero intentar ayudarte (si estás leyendo esto) a controlar tu narrativa o recuperar tal control. Voy a compartir algunas historias propias, de gente que conozco, reales y ficción, todo converge aquí. Creo que va a ser un mes muy emocionante y en serio ya estoy amando este tema, espero que tú también. Es tiempo de conectarnos con nuestro narrador interno y ser la estrella de nuestra historia, ¡hagámoslo mejores amigos!
