It's been a while since I started wearing jackets over my shoulders, like November 2012 to be precise, but it seems like a lot of people have been doing the same and I really do think it looks pretty cool, that's why I'll share some tips on how to wear things over your shoulders like a total pro.

For me, it all began with the Maison Martin Margiela for H&M collection. There were tons of oversized and unisex pieces that were just crazy (until you understood them) and a bunch of those items can be worn over the shoulders. So, with that in mind, here are a few guidelines to help you figure out how to make the best out of this styling choice:

I highly recommend wearing oversized garments, otherwise you'll look and feel trapped and that sucks; secondly, something over the shoulders looks great as the final layer on an outfit, try doing that. Also, if you think this is a girly thing, try to make it manlier by putting an oversized jacket on top of a suit or a leather jacket in top of a knitted sweater. Experiment, be yourself and don't be afraid of what people might think about you (once a friend told me that I could fit three people under my oversized coat and, yeah, that might be true, but I love how it looked!)

Para mí, todo inició con la colección de Maison Martin Margiela para H&M. Había muchas piezas extra grandes y unisex que eran una locura (hasta que las entendías) y muchas de esas prendas pueden ser usadas sobre los hombros. Así que, con eso en mente, aquí van un par de consejos para ayudarles a sacar el mayor provecho posible a este estilo de vestir:

Recomiendo mucho que esas piezas sean extra grandes, de lo contrario lucirán y se sentirán atrapados y eso está horrible; segundo, algo sobre los hombros se ve muy bien como capa final en un atuendo, traten eso. Además, si creen que se ve como algo de mujer, traten de hacerlo más masculino al poner una chaqueta extra grande sobre un traje o una chamarra de piel sobre un sweater tejido. Experimenten, sean ustedes y que no les de miedo lo que la gente pueda decir (una vez, un amigo me dijo que seguro cabían tres personas bajo mi abrigo extra grande y, sí, quizá sea cierto pero ¡me gusta mucho como me veía!)
