Plans Change 5
Adaptability, the quality of being able to adjust to new conditions, to be able to modify something for a new purpose. That's a key concept in my life nowadays; I've always been a bit of a control freak, I plan things, strategize, come up with solutions and ideas for whatever comes at me. I always tend to gravitate towards leadership, I'm a good leader and I like to see my plans come to fruition, from beginning to end. Sadly, that isn't always the case and plans change, I struggle and get frustrated from time to time. That's why adapting has become such an important thing to me.

I've become aware that in my field of work, especially in Mexico (where I feel the entertainment industry and the influencer/blogger/youtuber sphere is especially tainted), the way you act, your public relations and ability to have people in your corner is way more important than your talent or how much of a good project you can provide. In Mexico, people want to be famous, they want a glamorous life and, in order to do that, you need to talk the talk, it doesn't really matter if your work is mediocre, if you buy your followers/likes/views (as long as you can talk a good game and bluff your way to the top) people from PR agencies and brands will look your way.

Am I okay with that? Absolutely not. Do I need to learn how to play their game? I think I do. It sucks, you know? I've always been an earnest worker, a good guy with good ideas, a creative player. But that hasn't really taken me to the places I should be by now, so my original strategy needs some adjustments. I don't plan on losing myself or slacking off, I won't go and buy a billion followers so I look like I have a bigger audience but, somehow, I need to find a way to infiltrate the big leagues, you know? Otherwise, my project (my blog, YouTube channel and social media) won't be sustainable for much longer. Sometimes even good plans need to change in order to adapt to the current situation.

No me gusta ¿saben?

A Playlist to Chill and Forget About Anxiety

Playlist 1 Chill and forget about anxiety
Music has always been a huge and crucial part of my life. I'm one of those guys who's always singing or humming or something like that. For years, I created playlist to go along with every letter from the editor but I somehow felt like it wasn't enough, like I needed to switch it up and this (and upcoming playlist posts) is what I came up with.

When I'm feeling anxious, I always turn to music. When I can't sleep, I have a "calm" playlist on my phone that I listen to until I fall asleep. Sometimes I don't feel like dancing or listening to upbeat music... These are songs that help me zone out and chill. Sit back, relax, enjoy and stop worrying about the world for a few minutes.

Henry.

Friends and Family 4
"Friends and family" is a phrase that I've heard regarding events, sales, special things that are supposed to be reserved for a small group of people consisting of, you guessed it, friends and family, haha. Other than that, I haven't seen it being used for a different cause, that's where I come in: I want  to talk about how we behave around friends and family in social media and how they interact (or not) with us.

For the longest time, I've been a bit weirded out when family members see my blog posts or my YouTube videos, I have this thing where I don't do certain things (like curse or drink) when I'm around my family and I definitely behave differently than when I'm with my friends. Some people I know have even blocked their mom or dad on Instagram, haha, I don't think I would go that far but, luckily, both of them are on the older side of the spectrum and have no real interest in social media.

Another aspect comes from who supports your craft. I've discussed this with a few colleagues and it's funny how sometimes the people who least support what you do are your friends and family. You get all this love from strangers (followers) and a few internet friends but not as much from the people you're supposed to be closest to, it somehow bothers me, you know? When my friends start their own projects or need help winning a contest or  getting a message across, I always try to support them and use my Internet reach to help out but; when it's the other way around, I rarely see a helping hand. Interesting, huh? I think it's important that we, as friends and family, learn to support each other, to help out when we're needed and rejoice in the success of our loved ones, doesn't that make sense?

Interesante ¿no?

What You Need But Not What You Want

Life Journal 60
We've all been rejected by our crush, right? Well, most of us have. Maybe you're the good looking, lucky type that has never been through that... But that's not me. I've been rejected, I've been hurt, it has taken a toll on me. There was this one time where the girl that I loved (and I really do think I loved her) rejected my feelings by telling me that I was everything she needed but that I wasn't what she wanted. Back then it confused me and took me by surprise (I was 18-19)... Today, I think that's bullshit and, of course, that she wasn't really (emotionally) intelligent.

She rejected me and chose the "bad boy", who wasn't even like the bad boys on movies and TV shows, he was an ugly junkie with an attitude, not even a charming boy, not a handsome boy either. He was a guy that hurt her from start to finish and guess who was always there to pick up the pieces? Yes, me. I understand the concept of "needing something but not wanting it precisely", I do get it, but I also feel like when it comes to relationships, you should stick with the things that are good for you. If being in a relationship doesn't make you feel better than when you're alone, why are you there? Focus on fixing yourself and appreciating the good things that may come around. I was a catch and you let me go.

Love always,
Henry.

If I had to rank my favourite brands/stores in the whole world (or at least the ones that I've been exposed to), the top 3 (in no particular order) would be composed of Costco, H&M and IKEA, the latter is the only one that I don't have in Mexico (yet), so every time I visit my mom in the States, I make sure it's one of the first places we visit (HECK! I had to visit IKEA even when I travelled to Tokyo, even when it took more than an hour to get there, even when it was the most expensive subway ride ever).

My love for IKEA has made me do an unconventional haul video on my YouTube channel, put picture frames, lamps, EVEN A RUG! inside my luggage... But I love the store, what can I do? I love how its designed, what it stands for (democratising design and making it accessible for everyone), their food court, the Swedish food market... I just love IKEA, okay? So during this trip (and thanks to browsing through Instagram) I decided that I needed to do a photoshoot in the parking lot, I needed to get my love immortalised.

I'll admit it, it was a tough shoot, getting everything to work in my favour (especially the natural light) was a challenge, ignoring people giving me the stink eye because I shot the photos with my tripod and remote next to their precious invaluable cars and stupid stuff like that... But in the end, I was super pleased with the results, I was able to frame my love for IKEA in a photo, share it with the world on social media (because I'm not ashamed to say how much I love this store) and express my love for it a bit of a fashion twist... Who knows? Maybe one day, IKEA will repost my photos or (even better) will offer to partner up with me and create amazing love-filled content, haha!

May: Social Studies

May social studies Social media is shaping us...

There's no denying that; the internet revolutionised the world a few years ago and we're far beyond the group chats, email chains and MySpace days, it's all about social media now. But how is that dictating the way we behave in our everyday lives? The answer lies closer than we think: every time we're exposed to social media, to content creators, we're unconsciously evaluating brands and people, a like, a follow/unfollow, craving something, getting anxious or envious due to the things we're watching... All the interactions give or subtract power from people.

There's a thing that I like to call "social media etiquete", and by that I'm referring to the way we behave on the Internet; from supporters to haters, we all choose what we want to put out there and evaluate what others post. How can someone be so mean and write that? is a question that I've asked myself SO.MANY.TIMES in the past and then, of course, I start wondering if a person behaves in the same way in real life (when they're not protected by anonymity behind a screen), I've always found that really interesting. That's why I want this month to be about studying society and its behaviour (mainly on the internet world).

I don't know if you've noticed but this website started as a fashion blog and it has become something else in the past few years. I talk about everything but fashion inside my outfit posts, haha. It's like the fashion photos have become an accessory to my ideas and are just there because they look nice but hey, I kind of like it like that, you know? I feel like you get two very different ways of experiencing it depending on how you consume my content: if you only see the photos, then I guess it's still a fashion blog; if you read, then you're in for a good surprise, haha.

But yeah, social studies, people, relationships, feelings, that will be the core of this month (and will probably permeate the future), I hope you stay and enjoy the ride. I've also been thinking about reinventing the playlist section that's a part of these monthly letters so, please, bear with me and wait for them to make a (possibly) stronger comeback.

Double tap, like come back...

Double tap, like come back...
