YouTube Monthly Recap: March.

Hi guys! March is over now, this year is going so fast!!! So many things happened this month, I think it was a good one for me, and I hope it was a good one for you too. For some reason, this month left me thinking how badly I'd love for time to slow down, do you ever feel that way? Like, everything is going so fast and you just wish for life to stop for a while? I don't know...

But hey, this is a YouTube recap so, let's talk YouTube. April had 5 videos: a monthly favourites video, a K-Pop video !!, a nice haul, some tips on how to be more attractive and a product review of the coolest skincare brush-thingy, haha. Here are all the videos that went live during the past few weeks: enjoy, catch up, share them. Give them some love, yeah?

I Need H&M Conscious Exclusive 2017.

This is simple and straightforward: I need the newest H&M Conscious Exclusive collection (mostly because it's the first time in 3 years that they launch menswear garments). Through recycling, waste can be reborn as something beautiful, that's what this year's image and one of my favourite models, Natalia Vodianova says about the collection. H&M regularly employs recycled materials for some of their garments but once a year they develop a special collection featuring elaborated pieces constructed with materials obtained by recycling.

It's important to understand that fast-fashion moves, well, fast. And that comes with the idea of tons of disposable pieces of clothing, however, H&M has been recycling a lot in the past few years (you can bring a bag of used clothes to your closest store, donate it and receive a discount coupon in return) so they can help close the loop. We have to move towards a more sustainable fashion world and H&M is always one step ahead. Plus, and I'll reference the opening statement of the post, they included menswear within the collection this time! I NEED IT. 

// Esto es simple y directo: Necesito la nueva colección Conscious Exclusive de H&M (principalmente porque es la primera vez en tres años que lanzan piezas para hombre). A través de reciclar, los desperdicios pueden renacer como algo hermoso, eso es lo que dice Natalia Vodianova, la imagen de este año y una de mis modelos favoritas. H&M regularmente emplea materiales reclinados para algunas de sus prendas pero una vez al año, hacen una colección especial con piezas elaboradas construidas con materiales obtenidos a través de reciclaje.

Es importante entender que el fast-fashion se mueve rápido. Y eso viene con la idea de muchas prendas desechables, sin embargo, H&M ha estado reciclado mucho en estos últimos años (puedes llevar una bolsa de ropa usada a tu tienda más cercana, donarla y recibir un cupón de descuento a cambio) para poder ayudar a cerrar el ciclo. Tenemos que movernos hacia un mundo de moda más sustentable y H&M siempre está un paso más allá. Además, y haré referencia a la declaración con que inicié este post, ¡incluyeron ropa para hombre en la colección esta vez! NECESITO.

It's Not Over Yet

I've never been the most optimistic of guys; this is because every time I allow myself to get really excited over something, it never happens. It sucks, right? The thing is, I keep forgetting about that and continue to feel really happy about upcoming events yet, when they're near me, they get cancelled or something happens that doesn't allow them to become real. People say that when it's not for you, it's not for you but, I don't know, sometimes I feel like I have bad luck or something...

Things have never come easy for me; I wasn't born in a privileged family, my friends and close people are amazing yet normal, I don't have a lot of connections out there and those two things make me need to work harder than your average Joe in order to have mild success. I guess I'm not one of those guys that go viral overnight and become super famous in a matter of weeks. I'm the hard-working man that advances slowly through life.

Of course I get frustrated and pissed off at times; sure, I get jealous and sad every now and then but; you know? I don't give up, I keep on going thinking that maybe one day I'll find the right path (or it will find me) and things will go smoothly for once in my life. I have to trust that my life book isn't quite finished and some of the greater chapters are still being processed. Trust that there are better things in my future is one of my main fuel sources. This isn't over yet, I'll live to fight another day.

// Nunca he sido de esa gente optimista; eso es porque siempre que me permito emocionar por algo, nunca sucede. Es terrible ¿no creen? La cosa es que siempre olvido que eso me pasa y continúo sintiéndome feliz por eventos en el futuro pero, cuando están cerca, siempre se cancelan o algo sucede que no permite que se materialicen. La gente dice que cuando no es para ti, no es para ti pero, no sé, a veces siento que tengo mala suerte o algo...

Las cosas nunca han sido fáciles para mí; no nací en una familia privilegiada, mis amigos y gente cercana son grandiosas pero normales, no tengo muchas conexiones allá afuera y esas dos cosas hacen que necesite trabajar más que muchos para poder tener éxito moderado. Supongo que no soy de esos chavitos que se vuelven virales de la noche a la mañana y se vuelven súper famosos en cuestión de semanas. Soy el hombre trabajador que avanza lentamente por la vida.

Por supuesto que me frustro y me enojo a veces; claro, también me dan celos o me pongo triste de  vez en cuando pero; ¿saben? No me rindo, sigo adelante pensando que quizá un día encontraré el camino correcto (o éste me hallará a mí) y las cosas fluirán fácilmente por una vez en mi vida. Tengo que confiar que mi libro de vida no está terminado aún y que varios de los capítulos más grandiosos aún están siendo procesados. Confiar en que hay mejores cosas en el futuro es uno de mis combustibles principales. Esto no se ha acabado aún, viviré para luchar otro día.

5 Tips for Better Trips!

While I might not be the savviest of travellers nor I have toured the world, I think my trips have been pretty successful so far, I even dare to say I'm quite good at travelling. That's why I wanted to write this post with five tips on how to make your awesome trips even better!

#1. Lower your expectations. I know we can get pretty excited about an upcoming trip, that's good; yet we mustn't idealise places because they might turn out different than we expected. It's best to go with tons of hope and cheer but not the biggest expectations.

#2. Research. Every trip has some hidden gems in it. Find out the best places for food, the nicest locations for photos (additional tip: pack your coolest outfits, there's nothing worse than typical tourist photos with typical tourist outfits), if there are any festivals, happenings or seasonal goods!

#3. Be wise with your budget. That means you should always plan a budget before arriving to your destination. Set a spending limit per day and, if you happen to have a little extra at the end: indulge.

#4. Invest on experiences that make you richer. Everyone likes different things; for me, I prefer spending 20 bucks on a buffet than riding a lame rollercoaster in one of those Vegas hotels. With this, I mean that you should fulfil your dreams and spend your money in things that you'll remember dearly.

#5. Choose your companions carefully. This one is tricky. We must learn to be brave and travel alone from time to time. Some trips are better when you have someone with you; others are amazing because you're able to choose how to spend your time without worrying about anyone else. Only travel accompanied when it's absolutely necessary.

// Podré no ser un experto en viajes y no he recorrido el mundo, pero creo que mis viajes hasta hora han sido bastante exitosos, hasta me atrevo a decir que soy bastante bueno viajando. Por eso quise escribir este post con cinco tips para hacer que tus grandes viajes sean aún mejores.

#1. Baja tus expectativas. Sé que nos podemos emocionar mucho sobre un viaje próximo, eso es bueno; aún así, no debemos idealizar los lugares porque pueden resultar algo diferente a lo que esperábamos. es mejor ir con muchas ilusiones y ánimos pero no las expectativas más grandes.

#2. Investiga. Cada viaje tiene gemas ocultas en él. Busca los mejores lugares para comer, las locaciones más lindas para fotos (tip adicional: empaca tus atuendos más padres, no hay algo peor que fotos típicas de turista con atuendos típicos de turista), si hay algún festival, algún evento o cosas de temporada.

#3. Se astuto con tu presupuesto. Esto significa que siempre hay que planear un presupuesto antes de arribar a nuestro destino. Pon un límite de gastos por día y, si al final tienes un poquito extra: consiéntete.

#4. Invierte en experiencias que te enriquezcan. A todo mundo le gustan cosas diferentes; en mi caso, prefiero pagar 20 dólares en un buffet que subirme a una montaña rusa mala de un hotel en Las Vegas. Con esto, me refiero a que debes cumplir tus sueños y gastar tu dinero en cosas que recordarás con cariño.

#5. Elige cuidadosamente a tus acompañantes. Esto es complicado. Debemos aprender a ser valientes y viajar solos de vez en cuando. Algunos viajes son mejores cuando tienes a alguien contigo; otros son increíbles porque puedes elegir cómo pasar tu tiempo sin preocuparte por alguien más. Sólo viaja acompañado si es absolutamente necesario.

Go With The Flow

You know these guys that are really spontaneous and come up with plans just like that? I'm not one of them. I like controlling things, having plans and following a certain structure. I'm not extremely meticulous with that, tho, I've learned to go with the flow (a bit), relax and enjoy the ride. That works most of times, nowadays, but that's not always the case. Cue story time...

A while ago, I was sort of dating this girl (with whom I had romantic history that went back through the years) and things started to cool off without me doing anything wrong, or that's what I thought... Months later, when we were no longer dating, she told me that I wasn't spontaneous enough, that I always planned too much and that's when I first realised that she was right (although I still don't see that as a deal breaker but whatever...).

That taught me that I needed to relax and stop trying to plan every single thing in my life, so I started reducing the precision in my plans (because I really can't stop being a planner, haha) and I learned to go with the flow, the results immediately became better. The lesson here is that you need to get acquainted with the world around you and trust that with a little less planning and structure, things can still turn out great. It's about going with the flow without losing control of your boat.

// ¿Ubican a esa gente que es muy espontánea y se le ocurren planes todo el tiempo y rápido? Yo no soy de esos. Me gusta controlar cosas, tener planes y seguir una cierta estructura. No soy extremadamente meticuloso con eso ahora, he aprendido a ir con la corriente (un poquito), relajarme y disfrutar el viaje. Eso funciona la mayor parte del tiempo, pero no siempre es el caso. Entra música de historia y flashback...

Hace un tiempo, yo estaba medio saliendo con esta niña (con quien tuve una historia romántica que duró años y años) y las cosas comenzaron a enfriarse sin que yo hiciera algo malo, o eso es lo que creí... Meses después, cuando ya no estábamos saliendo, ella me dijo que yo no era suficientemente espontáneo, que siempre planeaba demasiado y fue ahí que me di cuenta (por primera vez) que tenía razón (aunque todavía no veo eso como una razón para terminar algo, pero bueno...).

Eso me enseñó que me tengo que relajar y bajarle a la planeación de todos los eventos en mi vida, así que comencé a reducir la precisión en mis planes (porque realmente no puedo dejar de ser un planeador, jaja) y aprendí a ir con la corriente, los resultados fueron inmediatamente mejores. La lección aquí es que es importante que conozcamos el mundo alrededor de nosotros y confiemos que con algo menos de planeación y estructura, las cosas también pueden salir bien. Se trata de ir con la corriente pero no perder el control de tu barco.

Dim The Lights?

Some people shine brighter than others, it's important to understand that that's okay and it's no valid reason to try to put someone down; they rise a bit higher than the rest and that's normal, that's not a bad thing. This is a harsh world and it has been that way for quite some time, some people are born to be leaders (and they're great at that) and some are born to be followers (many are exceptionally good at this, there's no shame in that). One is nothing without the other.

Within every life scenario, there are those who have more light; those who stand out in certain areas and are publicly recognised for it. It's important to understand that people shouldn't dim their lights just because others can't handle the brightness in their faces. This is a metaphor, of course, but the message is quite clear: everyone deserves to excel at the things they're good at, no matter what others have to say or want to do about it.

// Algunas personas brillan más que otras, es importante entender que eso está bien y no hay razón válida para intentar hacer menos a alguien; sucede que ellos se elevan un poco más que el resto y eso es normal, no es algo malo. Éste es un mundo rudo y ha sido así por mucho tiempo, algunas personas nacen para ser líderes (y son grandiosos en eso) y algunos nacen para ser seguidores (y son excepcionalmente buenos en esto, no hay vergüenza en eso). Uno no es nada sin el otro.

Dentro de cada escenario de vida, están aquéllos que tienen más luz; aquéllos que destacan en ciertas áreas y son reconocidos públicamente por eso. Es importante entender que la gente no debería reducir su luz sólo porque otros no pueden tolerar el brillo en sus caras. Esto es una metáfora, por supuesto, pero el mensaje es claro: todos merecen sobresalir en las cosas en que son buenos, no importa lo que los demás tengan para decir o hacer en su contra.

Stage Fright

I was having lunch and snapping photos, with my fellow blogger friend Cassandra, the other day and I wanted to get some shots at this really cool coffee house, I told her that it was a nice location and maybe we could both get some nice photos but she said that she was a bit shy when it came to crowded places (of course, she wasn't, she's really good at this blogger thing, haha). That made me think about how I take a lot of photos using my camera and tripod, about how, when I see a nice place, I set everything up and start posing, no matter where I am or who's watching.

That all started when I knew I'd be living in Seoul for 8 months and I panicked because I thought I wouldn't make any friends and no one would help me take photos. Then I came up with the idea of buying the tripod and a remote controller to make sure I'd be able to work and capture all of the incredible scenery Korea had to offer. The first few outfit shoots were a bit difficult because, guess what? I got stage fright.

It was so weird to stand in the middle of a street with my controller, posing and trying to achieve great images when, at the same time, I was surrounded by all these people passing by, trying to figure out what I was doing. More than one thought I was ridiculous (for sure) but, in the end, I got used to it, I got the photos I wanted, I never stopped working. The whole lesson here is that stage fright can paralyse us sometimes but we have to trust ourselves and start ignoring the haters, we just have to do our thing, that's what matters most. So, if you're feeling stage fright out there: stop caring and keep doing what you like.

 // Fui a comer y tomar fotos el otro día con mi amiga (también blogger) Cassandra, yo quería ir a un café muy padre, le dije que era una buena locación y que quizá ambos podríamos sacar algo padre pero ella dijo que le daba un poco de pena cuando se trataba de lugares con mucha gente (claro que no le dio pena, jaja, ella es muy buena en esto de ser blogger). Eso me hizo pensar sobre cómo tomo muchas fotos usando mi cámara y tripie, sobre cómo, cuando veo un lugar padre, monto todo y empiezo a posar, sin importar dónde estoy o quién está viendo.

Todo eso comenzó cuando supe que iba a vivir en Seoul por 8 meses y entré en pánico porque creí que no haría ni un amigo y que nadie me ayudaría a tomar las fotos. Fue entonces que se me ocurrió comprar el tripie y un control remoto para asegurarme que podría trabajar y tomar todos los lugares increíbles que Korea tenía para ofrecer. Las primeras sesiones de fotos fueron un poquito difíciles porque, adivinen, me dio pánico escénico. 

Era rarísimo pararme en medio de la calle con mi control, posando y tratando de conseguir imágenes padres cuando, al mismo tiempo, estaba rodeado de toda esta gente caminando por ahí, tratando de descifrar qué estaba haciendo. Seguro más de uno pensó que era un ridículo pero, al final, me acostumbré, saqué las fotos que quería, nunca dejé de trabajar. La lección importante aquí es que a veces el pánico escénico nos paraliza pero tenemos que confiar en nosotros y comenzar a ignorar a los haters, tenemos que hacer lo nuestro, eso es lo más importante. Así que, si alguno de ustedes siente pánico escénico allá afuera: dejen de darle importancia y sigan haciendo lo que les gusta.

YouTube Monthly Recap: February

Hello there best friends! February is behind us and it left with many, many, things over here and, also, up on my YouTube channel. It was a month about adapting and readjusting to reality, that's never easy but I'm managing and trying my hardest to succeed at this crazy thing we call daily life, haha. 

During this month, I shared a lot of my shopping experience in Sacramento during the holidays, gave you some tips on how to live a bit better (I read this awesome book that I'll share here soon), tried on some crazy Korean face mask and, why not, did another shopping video, haha. Here are all the videos that went live during February, catch up, give them some love, will you?

Structured Romantic (featuring H&M Studio SS17)

I'm a hopeless romantic, there's no way of denying that. I believe in the beauty of emotions and how they can alter and wholly transform a situation. It doesn't matter if it's love or hate, I love the full spectrum of feelings. But, on the other hand, I'm also really intense when it comes to controlling things, I'm one of those control freaks; yet, somehow, both hues of my personality manage to coexist and everything works, mostly, fine.

I got the same feeling with the Studio SS17 collection from H&M. Inspired by ballet, it's filled with sheer fabrics, ruffles, flowy garments but, at the same time, there are lots of structured pieces, strong shapes that manage to coexist and make everything work. For this look, I paired the coolest trench coat (this guy has a lot of fabric in it, haha) with a ruffled shirt, black trousers and black sneakers; there's an air of romance thanks to the ruffles and the flow of the coat but there's also a big influence of structure with the rest of the pieces. This was, definitely, my favourite look out of the three I did!

// Soy un romántico, no hay forma de negar eso. Creo en la belleza de las emociones y cómo pueden alterar y transformar por completo una situación. No importa si es amor o es odio, amo el espectro entero de sentimientos. Pero, por otro lado, también soy muy intenso cuando se trata de controlar cosas, soy de esas personas que quieren controlar todo; aún así, de cierta forma, ambos matices de mi personalidad logran coexistir y todo funciona, la mayor parte del tiempo, bastante bien.

La colección Studio SS17 de H&M me dio la misma sensación. Inspirada en ballet, está llena de telas con transparencia, olanes, prendas sueltas pero, al mismo tiempo, hay muchas piezas estructuradas, siluetas fuertes que logran coexistir y hacer que todo funcione. Para este look, combiné la gabardina más padre (que tiene muchísima tela, jaja) con una camisa con olanes, pantalones negros y tennis negros; hay un aire de romance gracias a los olanes y el movimiento de la gabardina pero también hay una gran influencia de estructura con el resto de las piezas. Éste fue, sin lugar a duda, mi look favorito de los tres que creé.

HyperActive (featuring H&M Studio SS17)

I tend to dislike sportswear; some people love those garments but I think most of them look really bad and shouldn't be worn outside gyms and those other places where you exercise; I've always said that when you wear sweatpants in public is because you've given up on life, haha, same thing goes for running shoes. I don't know why, but, that particular kind of clothing just doesn't appeal to me. Garments inspired by activewear, that's a whole different story.

For the second look I created featuring H&M's Studio Collection SS17, I went full speed ahead with their activewear inspired items and these photos are the result. I think the ballet aspect of the collection makes this look less gym junkie and more sophisticated man who exercises, haha. The white see-through pullover is easily one of my favourite pieces from this collection, it just looks really cool without trying too hard. And, let me tell you, it feels nice to wear a complete white outfit every once in a while, take it from a guy who wears black 6 out 7 times per week.

// La ropa deportiva suele no gustarme; a mucha gente le encantan esas prendas pero yo pienso que la mayoría se ven mal y no deberían ser usadas fuera del gimnasio y esos otros lugares para hacer ejercicio; siempre he dicho que el día que te pones pants en público, te has rendido ante la vida, jaja, lo mismo va para tennis para correr. No sé por qué, pero, ese tipo de ropa simplemente no me gusta. Prendas inspiradas en ropa deportiva, esa es otra historia por completo.

Para el segundo look que creé utilizando la colección Studio SS17 de H&M, fui de lleno con sus prendas inspiradas en ropa deportiva y estas fotos son del resultado. Creo que el aspecto de ballet que tiene esta colección hace que esto se vea menos me encanta ir al gimnasio y más hombre sofisticado que se ejercita, jaja. La sudadera blanca transparente es fácilmente una e mis prendas favoritas de esta colección, se ve con mucha onda sin esforzarse mucho. Y, déjenme decirles, se siente bien usar un atuendo completamente blanco de vez en cuando, esto viniendo de alguien que usa negro 6 de 7 días a la semana.

I will never get tired of saying this: H&M is my favourite brand, ever; they're always concerned about making more sustainable fashion choices available, affordable and attractive to as many people as possible. I love everything about them and it's always a pleasure to come up with projects and collaborate with them. This time, the focus is on their Studio SS17 Collection, inspired by ballet and balancing tailoring with functionality and elements of activewear. It's the perfect balance between romantic and modern garments.

H&M presents their Studio Collection with a runway show in Paris and this one is the first see-now-buy-now they made. So, after the show (that happened on March 1st), people were able to purchase the pieces online, that's pretty cool. Earlier this week I was able to shoot outfits with garments from this collection and I created three different looks. This one features the coolest kimono-style biker jacket I've seen and I mixed that up with some extra long trousers and a sheer top, I also included white sneakers to keep the whole look active.  

This outfit might not be what I usually wear but it's definitely something that I would like to wear more often, the silhouettes are different and modern and, being honest, it feels nice to shake things up and look a bit different every now and then. I'll be uploading the other two looks I created on a daily basis so make sure to come back tomorrow to see a different outfit featuring more pieces from the H&M Studio SS17 Collection.

Outfit #2: HyperActive // Outfit #3: Structured Romantic.

// Nunca me voy a cansar de decir esto: H&M es mi marca favorita, no hay más; siempre están preocupados por crear opciones de moda más sustentables, que sean accesibles y atractivas para tanta gente como sea posible. Amo todo sobre ellos y siempre es un placer llegar a proyectos y colaboraciones juntos. Esta vez, el foco está en su colección Studio SS17, inspirada en ballet y balanceando sastrería con funcionalidad y elementos de ropa deportiva. Es el balance perfecto entre prendas románticas y modernas.

H&M presenta la Studio Collection con una pasarela en París y ésta fue la primera ve-ahora-compra-ahora que hicieron. Después del show (eso pasó el primero de marzo), la gente pudo comprar las piezas en línea, eso está súper padre. Hace unos días, hice una sesión de fotos con prendas de esta colección y creé tres atuendos diferentes. En éste, usé la chamarra motociclista-kimono más padre que he visto y la combiné con unos pantalones extra largos y una camisa transparente, también incluí tennis blancos para mantener todo el look activo.

Quizá este atuendo no es algo que usaría usualmente pero definitivamente es lago que me gustaría usar más seguido, las siluetas son diferentes y modernas y, siendo honestos, se siente bien cambiar las cosas y verse diferente de vez en cuando. Estaré subiendo los otros looks (uno por día), así que asegúrense de regresar al blog mañana para ver un atuendo diferente con más piezas de la colección H&M Studio SS17.

March: Trust

Everyone feels insecure...

At least from time to time. We all have insecurities and that's okay, no one feels confident all the time. We each have certain areas in which our life experience allows us to feel safer and certain but, there's also many grey areas that scare us and make us feel like we're not good enough to achieve certain things. I really feel life is about embracing every nuance and hue within our personality, strengthen our strengths and aiming for greatness.

For this month, the theme revolves around trust: inner trust and courage, trusting other people and, also, learning when not to trust what's around us. Confidence is mostly perception, it's like wearing a power suit (yeah, like the suits Power Rangers wear) and acting like we're worth a million bucks; if we start doing that, people will start believing in it and, eventually, we'll believe in that too and it will all become real.

The posts throughout March will be about that. I want to give advice in areas that I feel really sure of myself and, also, learn a lot about this topic too. I hope you guys like it and trust that we'll all learn something in the upcoming weeks, I hope, haha. Let's hope this will a good month for all of us.

Todos se sienten inseguros...

Al menos de vez en cuando. Todos tenemos inseguridades y eso está bien, nadie se siente completamente seguro todo el tiempo. Tenemos ciertas áreas en las que nuestras experiencias de vida nos permiten sentirnos a salvo y con certeza pero, también hay muchas áreas grises que nos asustan y nos hacen sentir que no somos lo suficientemente buenos para lograr ciertas cosas. Realmente siento que la vida se trata de abrazar cada matiz y tonalidad dentro de nuestra personalidad, fortalecer nuestras fortalezas y apuntar a ser grandiosos.

Para este mes, el tema gira en torno a la confianza: confianza interna y valentía, confiar en otras personas y, también, aprender cuándo no confiar en lo que nos rodea. El alta autoestima y confianza en nosotros mismos es, principalmente, percepción, es como usar un traje de poder (sí, como los de los Power Rangers) y actuar como que valemos un millón de dólares; si empezamos a hacer eso, la gente comenzará a creerlo y, eventualmente, nosotros también lo creeremos y todo se volverá una realidad.

Los posts durante marzo serán sobre eso. Quiero dar consejos en las áreas donde me siento muy seguro de mí mismo y, también, aprender mucho de este tema, la vida se trata de aprender y mejorar también, ¿saben? Espero que les guste lo que verán y confiemos en que todos aprenderemos algo en las siguientes semanas, espero, jaja. Recuerden que siempre hay una lista de canciones que van bien con estas cartas del editor y pueden escucharla aquí o yendo a mi canal de YouTube.
