Digidestined: A Digimon Adventure Tri Inspired Editorial

As you may or may not know, I'm a huge fan of Digimon and earlier this month, a new series called Digimon Adventure Tri premiered in Japan, celebrating the franchise's 15th anniversary. It's a sequel to the original Digimon Adventure and you guys have no idea how excited I was about it. The thing with these sequels is that, sometimes, they over promise and don't deliver but, let me tell you, Digimon Adventure Tri delivers. It's amazing.

I wanted to do a photo-shoot inspired by the male characters of the series; I tried to capture some trait of every character. And while this may not be a carbon copy of their style, I do think it's something they would wear, something that feels very them. A single photo-shoot can't possibly compile all the love I have for Digimon, it was one of my favourite shows while growing up and one that really shaped me, that taught me how to day dream and gave me hours and hours of happiness.

Now, that happiness has come back to my life and, I hope, to your lives as well.

YouTube monthly recap: November

Hey guys! Let us recap all the videos that went online on my YouTube channel during the month of November. I think I'm getting the hang of being a YouTuber and I'm improving, I really do. I feel happier with the results and the recording process has become much easier.

This November, I cooked, gave fashion advice and shared more facts about me and my favourite things in the world. Hope you guys like this and, if you do, come on board and subscribe to my channel for more useful or silly or fun stuff. I'll be waiting for you over there, okay? Thanks very much for all the support and I'll see you next month, when it's time to recap the whole year!

// ¡Hey amigos!

number six the wallflower 7 The perks of being a wallflower include going unnoticed, being the perfect confidant and also becoming a good observer. I've considered myself as a wallflower for quite a long time now and I don't see that as a bad thing to be, you know? I've accepted that I'm a little shy (and that shyness gets even worse when I'm in big crowds), that I'm also a bit socially awkward and that I'm not rainbows and flowers all the time. I actually like that about myself, but, problems arise in the shape of people who don't understand, people who aren't cool with that.

What happens when you're okay with being the way you are but you end up facing conflict because people expect you to be something else? My mom told me once that you should never show people how much their insults and bullying hurt you, that you shouldn't show how much you care... And that's a pretty great strategy. Lately, and I mentioned this on a previous post, I've been dealing with people telling me that I'm too snobbish or too arrogant. I don't like that they're talking about me, but, in my attempt of not showing them how little I care, I stopped caring about that at all.

Self-government strikes once again. I'm learning how to manage and deal with emotion, conflicts, nasty people. I think, two years ago, I would've been extremely upset and, either, violent or sad about it. But I've worked on my issues, dealt with my demons, and now I'm okay with being the way I am (mostly). I'm that weird, funny, guy that sees and hears everything, that has a lot of information about people and that is reliable. I'm a wallflower and that's okay.

Time Changes Everyone (collaboration with Daniel Wellington)

Life Journal 36 sponsored by Daniel Wellington
Life is complicated. We see and experience new things every single day. Time goes by and the people we think we know change; sometimes that's hard to accept, sometimes we want things to stay put, to stay the same forever. Have you ever felt something similar? I've wanted it many times before, I wanted time to stop and be in a loop forever when life is going well. It's hard to let go of the good things, to accept that things must end and become eternal memories.

When I look back to the person I was ten years ago, somehow, I feel grateful for all the accomplishments I've achieved, for maturing and growing up emotionally. I'm not going to lie here, I don't like the person I was during middle school and high school. I was so far from who I am now and from what I want to do with my life. Don't get me wrong, I'm still not a hundred percent where I want but, at least, I'm way closer than before. Time changes everyone, but just a few show self improvement.

Special thanks to Daniel Wellington for sponsoring this post. If you're not familiar with it, it's a Swedish brand that focuses on watches and it's a pretty cool one. You can check out their website by clicking here.

4. Samba sneakers, from Adidas.
5. Skull necklace, from titiMadam.
6. Bracelet, from Pull & Bear.
7. Rings, from H&M.
Number Five The Simple Man 2
Tons of people in my life seem to think that I'm a really snobby guy, that I'm high maintenance and walk with my nose up in the air. While it's true that I'm not the most normal guy you'll meet and that sometimes I tend to be a little eccentric, the truth is: I'm a simple man. I'm straightforward, I don't like drama or complications. Part of being in control of my emotions has been about knowing when to push the boundaries and learn when to be pleased.

Let me elaborate a bit on this one. It's like going to a restaurant, I'm not fancy, I don't like molecular cuisine or super expensive food; I'm more into chilling and grabbing a burger or pizza or something simple like that. I don't want a super fancy and exclusive life, I want one where I feel comfortable and not out of place. Feeling out of place is horrible: suddenly, you're in a crowd and you don't fit in, the atmosphere becomes really tense and you end up terribly uncomfortable.

Self-government is about knowing yourself and knowing how to act and when and how to react. I try to keep things simple most of the time (although, being completely honest, I also have my moments of crisis, my meltdowns... But hey, I'm only human, you know!). While I was in Folsom, California, I saw this area with yellow bushes and, practically, no one else around and I thought: "this would be an amazing spot for photos" but, being there, I also realised, this is a great place to think, to be by myself and chill. I'm a simple man and I'll always be like that.

Distance

It's not that I don't like you, I mean, not entirely. Recently, I've had to deal with people talking about me, most of the times behind my back, and it's a very weird feeling. They talk trash about me, complain about how I'm becoming snobbish, about how I'm living a lie and hiding things about me.  I don't need to hide anything from anyone, I know I'm weird but I keep it real. And to those people I say (first of all): Why don't you mind your own business? And, secondly in a less angry tone, you don't fit in my life at the moment.

Distancing yourself from others is a tricky situation but it's a necessity. Think about your life as if it were a closet, a fridge or a candy box. You can't fit everything and you need to get rid of things before even thinking about acquiring new ones. Of course, the key is to always be polite to everyone, and I do mean EVERY SINGLE INDIVIDUAL YOU CROSS PATHS WITH. That's blogger wisdom, right there. Be nice with every one and be a true friend with your true friends. I have to believe that it's not a big deal hearing strong opinions about me and distance myself from crappy feelings. I need to focus on what I think of me and how the people I care about perceive me.

Love always,
Henry.

Number Four The Fox 2 You have to think on your feet, got to move fast, quicker than the others. That's what we're taught to do, behave like everything in life is a competition. It's rare to find someone who's kind just for the sake of it, people usually have an agenda and they always want something from you or someone you know. In this social game, it's imperative to be clever, to act like a fox, to take what we want fast and not make a big deal out of it.

It's true that people love attention, I think we all know someone like that. That guy or girl who was kind of nice but with a strong smell of desperation, those guys that want to be successful and are quite intense about it. Those aren't foxes, they're snakes. I've learned throughout the years that every day, every single event, is an opportunity. You never know who you're going to meet or what's going to happen. That's why it's important to be a fox.

A fox is careful, clever, smart, a bit dangerous but cool to look at. The fox is a person who will take what he or she needs without disturbing others, he will achieve success in the quietest manner possible. Victory is for the fox to savour, not the rest of the jungle. Self-government has taught me how to be a fox, how to patiently wait for the right timing, snatching and conquering the world without suspicion. Foxes are everywhere and you hardly ever notice them. It's time to control your impulses and act more carefully amongst a crowd of snakes. Don't you think?

Nunca sabes a quién vas a conocer o qué va a suceder.

A community for bloggers: Chictopia & Creator Deck

It's crazy to think how much time has passed since the first time I decided to write a blog post and share it with the world. I was young and had a completely different set of mind and skills. The exact date was February 6th, 2009 and, of course, that blog wasn't this one; it was called Folk & Airhead and I talked about my life to friends and lucky-random visitors. I had something I wanted to share and that was the perfect platform to do it.

Back in the day, I wrote a bunch of non-sense and was pretty proud about it. One day, a friend told me I had a pretty great sense of style and I started doing outfit photos and posting them on the blog. That evolved thanks to a site called Chictopia. I noticed there was a community for bloggers in which they were able to share their style and give/get feedback from others. I was a big fan of one of the top bloggers over there and that's what inspired me to create this blog.

Years later, Chictopia remains as one of the biggest platforms for fashion and lifestyle bloggers and I'm pretty proud to be involved and working in different projects with them. I love Chictopia and I'll always be a big supporter. They launched a new tool in the shape of a website called Creator Deck (and they also created a blog for it that has a bittersweet sense of nostalgia and old-school blogging) to connect bloggers and brands, to help them monetise their work. Just like me in the past six years, Chictopia has evolved and continues to shape the way for current and future bloggers. Make sure to check out Creator Deck and give them some love over at Instagram. As for me, I'll keep posting as long as I'm happy with what I do. On my book, that's the only way to do it.

Love always,
Henry.

Number three The dreamer 2 The day you stop having dreams... That day, you die on the inside. Think about all the great minds of every different generation, they weren't your average Joe, they were weird, eccentric, misunderstood even. I've been thinking a lot about that lately, I want to know where I'm heading and what to do with my life. I know I want to be remembered and give something to the world. I'm just feeling a bit stuck at the moment.

Self-government is an easy idea to grasp, you know? It's about taking control of yourself, your actions; how hard could that be? In paper, everything is quite easy, actually. You map something for yourself, create a plan, build structures and paths... But, every now and then, you hit a rock and that paralyses you. Suddenly, your dreams, those things that keep you going all the time, produce angst and frustration.

I need to know and feel that my dreams are achievable. Sometimes it feels like they're so far away and so out of my reach... That's horrible. That puts me in a terrible situation where I feel stuck and don't know what to do, how to get out. I lose all sense of self-government and start acting out in ways that I don't necessarily like. I've made peace with the idea of being both happy and sad at the same time, that's perfectly fine. But what's really bothering me is the not knowing. I need to search and find the right path to keep following my dreams. I am, and always will be, a dreamer.

Book Club #18: The Left Hand of Darkness

Hi guys, how are you? As you know, I'm doing an online book club, right here on the blog, where I post reviews about most of the books I read. I try to keep finding cool titles to showcase here and, between classics and new stories, I think we've been doing it well. I read a lot and it's important for me that you guys know that. Who knows? Maybe it will inspire you to read a bit more... Today's book is one hell of a classic, coming all the way from 1969 and giving science fiction a really high-end literature feel. If you're into politics and fantasy, you have to read this title. Book Club #18 is The Left Hand of Darkness, by Ursula K. Le Guin.

// ¡Hola amigos!
Good novels are meant to change the reader... In an indescribable way after they have completed reading them. That's something Ursula K. Le Guin wrote in this book's introduction and something that's very true. When you read a novel and feel indifference afterwards, it's almost like a waste of time. I believe that all the good stories out there, teach you something (about yourself or about life) and that's the ultimate power a writer has.

This novel happens in a world called Gethen; similar to Earth but not quite like it. Genly Ai, an ambassador for the Ekumen (a sort of council with members from several humanoid planets) arrives in this planet with the hopes of making it part of the council but he soon finds that things here aren't simple. He lands in Karhide, the most powerful kingdom, and begins his mission. Gethenians are androgynous, asexual, neither males nor females; therefore, they're free of gender roles and traits. This confuses Genly, since he's used to people from Earth, with strong gender identity. Throughout the novel, Genly rises and fails, struggles and plots and suffers the consequences of being an alien in a world with many different characteristics than his own. He meets allies and enemies; people against the Ekumen and people cloaked in shadows that will, eventually, help him survive.

As the plot advances, several chapters are told from Genly's perspective, while others are told from a character name Estraven and, a few more, explain myths and research about Gethen. This novel isn't fast-paced or action filled but it's definitely sophisticated and strongly written. I think Le Guin's ideas about gender aren't even the main defining trait of this novel, it's more about discovering how people mind's work and realising that everyone has their own agenda, goals that they'll try to reach no matter the consequences. In the cold world of Gethen, there's a raging fire against the unknown, fuelled by a longing for power and a thirst for answers.

If you liked this review, you can go and get The Left Hand of Darkness, along with other titles from Ursula K. Le Guin, over at Book Depository.

Love always,
Henry.

Number two the pacifist dirty velvet 2 I always try to solve everything. And I do mean EVERYTHING. It's almost like I can't see a problem or situation without trying to get involve and fix something or contribute to its solution. I'd like to say that I usually tend to go for a pacific approach, that I always stay cool and collected but, many times, that's not the case. Sometimes, I act out and become a little crazy. It's fun to watch but terrible to live, you know...

But yes, with most of my relationships, I usually go the extra mile and focus on helping others. I don't know, it comes natural to me. Sometimes it works and it's magnificent; others... Well, let's say I've been yelled to mind my own business more than once. I think that's a great strength but, also, my fatal flaw, I get involved too much and don't know how to respond to boundaries. It has given me great victories and tons of bad times.

Dirty Velvet, as I told you on a previous post, is a design collective based in the UK and they're all about ethic and making people think with their designs. I'm wearing a sweatshirt that, at least for me, is about letting the bureaucracy take control of the city and how that becomes a King-Kong-size issue. The t-shirt, I feel, is more about knowing when to stop dehumanising and how it would be terrible to lose ourselves in the modern aspects of current days. I like to think that the guys at Dirty Velvet also are pacifists, that they like to solve conflicts and give an input to society. I like that. Check their website for more crafty smart items.
