That thing that feels like love...

Wisdom #59 That thing that feels like love
I've made mistakes, I still make them (more often than I'd like) and my love life has seen that happened more than any other area, haha. I've rarely pursued love seriously, it only has happened three or four times and it has ended badly; you'd think that rejection and unrequited love becomes easier to handle when it happens again and again but it really isn't. That has led me to stop believing that there's someone out there made for me... I know it sounds crazy but I really do feel that way.

But I don't want to talk about love today, I want to talk about that thing that feels like love but it's not quite that. It might be attraction or a feeling of being wanted but, if I learned something recently is that, that's not love and we should aim for more than something that tastes like love, we deserve the real thing; of course, it's tougher and harder to get there but it's gotta be worth it, you know? It's gotta be.

Love always,
Henry.

5. Sunglasses, from Aldo.
6. Rings, from H&M.
something to believe in 5
I guess one of the biggest challenges we face in life is finding something to believe in when it seems like we have nothing keeping us in check, centred. I'm not a religious person, I don't believe in a higher power in the shape of a man controlling our destinies (although I respect people who have enough will power to believe that); however, I believe in people, in energy, in actions. We're responsible of the things that come out of our mouths, of the things we choose (or choose not) to do; we have influence over others and that is no small duty.

For the time being, I choose to believe in myself and the things I do. I have plans and ideas that I want to execute and I have to believe that they're good, that they can make a difference and stand against this saturated creative bubble that we live in. I choose to believe in the people that surround me, to think that they have good intentions, that they won't betray me. I choose to believe in good energy, good juju, spreading positive vibes into the world.

Having something to believe in isn't easy; that's because it's about us having faith into something (someone, ourselves) and, you know, trusting the world out there is difficult. But a challenge is good when we need motivation, even if it's finding something to latch on, right? And by latching I don't mean depending on something, it's like, getting some extra inspiration-motivation to get things done.   And, of course, I do encourage believing in ourselves and the things we do and are capable of doing, okay?

Nostalgia: Dragon Ball Super

So many shows have been getting sequels, remade, revivals, these past few years! And, although I respect the idea of letting an idea run its course, I can't help but feel happy about that, really freakin' happy. I wanna talk about one show that I watched when I was a kid: Dragon Ball Z (and yes, I know that it all began with Dragon Ball and Z was a sequel but Z was the first one I enjoyed, okay?).

Sometime around 2015, the official Dragon Ball Z sequel began airing, they called it Dragon Ball Super. I knew it existed but never really paid much attention to it. They released 2 movies that were expanded within the show, I knew about them but didn't watch them either. Well, a few months ago, my best friend came by and we watched an episode; then, 2 or 3 weeks go, I decided to watch the whole thing and, friends, it's been a great decision.

I'm halfway through the show now (it ended this past weekend) and now I see Dragon Ball and its characters with a whole new set of mind (let's face it, I was a lot less demanding when I was 11). I see the things that I love and the things that I really dislike, I appreciate character development and suffer with the filler episodes, haha. I know that Dragon Ball Super isn't perfect, I know that it appeals to people coming from a nostalgic place but I don't really care. It has given me a chance to "interact" with characters that helped me grow up and it feels, well, super.

Henry.

I don't know exactly why, but every time I go to Sacramento and come back home, the feeling of not belonging here anymore intensifies. I've known for quite some time that I don't wanna live in Mexico for much longer and I've been trying to cope with it, you know, looking at the brighter side but it seems tougher and tougher now. It's not like Sacramento is my favourite place in the world but, at least, it's miles better than Mexico City and I feel more at ease there.

Has that ever happened to you? Have you ever felt like you don't belong? I think I've never felt like I actually belong somewhere and it's weird, like, I don't see any place as the one that was made for me. But I believe that things will start changing; the main reason why I had to stay in Mexico was my University degree, a four-year battle (after graduating) that it's finally over. Now, with that in my pocket, I can start thinking about moving somewhere else and facing new challenges.

I don't know exactly where I'll end up but it has to be better than here. I wanna knock on every door, do everything in my power and fight until one of the paths I want opens up in front of me. Challenges are good, they keep you motivated and, as long as you feel like you can achieve something, that fire is what makes you feel alive. So, stay tuned and wish me luck with future endeavours because, wherever I go, you guys are coming with me.

The Duff

There are two movies that I always go to when I wanna laugh: Mean Girls and Easy A; they're clever, funny, quotable and, I don't know, I think they kind of defined my generation. It doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl, you probably know a line or two from those scripts. Well, I was browsing the Netflix catalogue this past week and found the third member of this Holy Trinity: The Duff.

At first, I thought it would be your average American romantic comedy but it's so much more than that. It ticks the three boxes I mention above: it's funny, clever and quotable. Basically, it tells the story of an average high school girl and how she realises that she's a D.U.F.F. (Designated Ugly Fat Friend). The rest of the movie is about changing (and sort of embracing) that. The leads are likeable, it's well paced, some supporting characters (like her mom and some teachers) are hilarious and, overall, it's a fun movie with a powerful message (that I won't tell you because you have to watch it).

Among this Holy Trinity of mine, The Duff ranks 3rd out of the three, but, that doesn't make it any less valuable. I couldn't stop watching and I think I'll have to watch it like two or three more times so I can fully understand and start quoting it, haha. Here's the trailer, give it a chance, you won't regret it!

3. Super skinny jeans in black, from Dark Future.
4. Suede Chelsea boots in black, from Frank Wright.
5. Rings, from H&M.
oh so modern 2
Sacramento keeps surprising me. This is the final outfit post from my recent trip to the US and the whole situation is bittersweet (mostly bitter, though, haha); I can't believe how much content I was able to produce, that makes me feel pretty proud of myself! But in all seriousness, this trip was different from the others, I feel like I've really got a good taste of the city, the old areas, the new modern areas, the artsy neighbourhoods, the cafés... And the list goes on and on...

This trip marked the first time I was able to ride the train, which means... INDEPENDENCE! Hahaha. Don't get me wrong, the days I spent doing photoshoots and visiting places with my mom were amazing but she had work to do and I needed to get out of the house and, well, work as well. I don't have many friends here and I couldn't see the few I have (who knows, I might find friends here one day) but those days of walking the streets alone, looking for cool locations and spending time with myself were good for my soul.

Sacramento showed me many different things and this particular location was a breath of fresh air, it looked really cool, really modern and it was aesthetically pleasing. I shot two outfits that day, the other one in front of a mural and, even when people were looking at me the whole time, I've learned that it doesn't matter what they say or think, I was there working and creating something special. This whole time in Sacramento helped me create something special.

// Sacramento me sigue sorprendiendo.

Loona

Ever since I came back from Korea, I've been into K-Pop. I don't know if it's a matter of nostalgia or if it's because I'm kind of tired of listening to "new" Western music that basically sounds the same as the thing that came before, but K-Pop has become a safe musical haven for me. And today I want to talk about Loona, a girl group that will debut later this year.

It's a 12 member group and, sure, that sounds impressive but it's sort of normal for Korean standards. The thing is, they've been doing this amazing pre-debut project featuring each girl with a solo music video, sub-units and incredible imagery; I think they've really raised the bar for the whole music industry. A few days ago, they released this group teaser and it's just so, so, so cool. I wanna do some sort of project inspired by it, so yeah, take a look at it and expect something cool (based on it) on my behalf to come soon!

Henry.

Watch Her Leave 2
And all I could do was watch her leave with someone else... That has, sadly, been a pattern of mine throughout my whole life. I was on a website the other day (don't remember which one) and I ended up reading a sort of manifesto about love and how it's okay to be ambitious, how it's normal to want something that you don't have and, I don't know, it hit close to home.

I've only known unrequited love, I don't know what reciprocate love feels like, haha; sad, don't you think? I know I'm not your average Joe, your manly man, but that doesn't mean I don't want a girlfriend, it doesn't mean that it's okay to constantly hit on me if you're a gay guy only to see if I "crack", it only means that I've had bad luck and that I need to stop settling for that thing that tastes like love but it's not quite it, it's time for me to be more ambitious, to get what I deserve.

Most of the girls I've liked before always see me as the really good friend and, even when they break up with their douchey boyfriends, they never give me a shot. It's sad but I always have to watch them leave. In recent years, I decided that when that happens, I'll simply remove myself from the equation, it's better to leave than to be stuck in love forever, don't you think?

H&M Conscious: The recycling process

H&M The Recycling Process I went to an H&M event a few days ago and it was really cool because they taught me how their recycling process works. You can take clothes you no longer need to your local H&M store, put them in a bin in exchange for a discount coupon and give them new life. I've done that before and I knew they recycled it but I didn't quite know how they do it. Learning that was awesome and I want you to learn about that too, so, here are the different steps on H&M's recycling process:

How many times have you wished superheroes were real? Wouldn't it be amazing that if you're in trouble, Flash or Superman could show up and save you? I've certainly wished for that many times in my life. I guess superheroes were created based on that need, you know, the need for some sort of saviour that comes out of nowhere and fixes the toughest situations.

The lack of superheroes in real life makes us try and find heroes somewhere else. The definition of hero refers to a brave person who is admired or idealised for courage, outstanding achievements or noble qualities. Heroes are those we look upon as role models, the ones that inspire us to be better, to do more things around us. Superpowers or not, heroes are very much a part of our everyday lives.

When we're little, quite often we link the idea of a hero to our mom or dad, to someone close to us that impresses us by their actions. As we grow, we realise that everyone (even our heroes) make mistakes and our perception of heroism changes a bit, we learn how to be okay with imperfections and that's when we might feel the lack of a superhero figure. Well, here's what I have to say about that: why don't we try to be our own hero, to be courageous and admire the things we do, develop our nobility and strive for stars? Let's be our own superheroes.

March: A New Challenge

March A New Challenge It's been six years...

When I started this blog I never imagined I'd learn so much from it, I'd never expected the things it has given me. Six years ago, I decided that I had something to say about fashion, about style, about life itself. I've been happy, sad, angry, anxious, it's all recorded inside this website; from not knowing what I wanted to say exactly (just knowing I wanted to say something) to basically creating a journal for me and for others, it's been one hell of a ride.

But now things have to change. People change, they evolve, it's part of growing up. I'm not the same guy I was six years ago and neither are you. I've thought a lot about what I want to do with my life, with this blog, with my YouTube channel and social media and I decided that, although I haven't hit the jackpot and had the success I want, I'm not a quitter and I'm certainly not giving up. So, what happens after that? Reinvention.

I want March to mark a new beginning, to set a new challenge for me: I need to figure out how to create amazing content, how to say stuff people aren't saying, try new things, find new ways to make all of this work. I'm not saying I'll change the DNA of this website because that's not going to happen, but I will work hard this month to give you something that feels fresh, so, keep an eye on me, yeah? And, to prove that things won't drastically change, don't miss a new playlist that goes along great with this letter by clicking here!

The sky's the limit, right?
Love,
Firma Hen Evia 200

Love,
