Wild Fox(es)

Teaming up is a wonderful, wonderful thing to do. Of course, I only mean wonderful when you want to team up with people; if it's something forced, then it's dreadful. However, every once in a while, you find a couple of souls that think like you and great things happen.

This month's editorial features clothes from Wildfox (an amazing brand, if I must say so myself) and I shot it with a really talented fashion blogger, that you'll be seeing often here: Ari Camacho. Her blog's called The Double Denim; on top of that, the amazing graphic designer Pablo from Fungi Express illustrated our photos. The results left me incredibly happy, but, you be the judge and let us know what you think!

Be sure to follow them on every platform!

Love always,
Henry.

Chelsea boots (times two)

Black Leather Chelsea Boots | How to Wear & What to Wear With & Where to Buy Here, I'm wearing:

1. Black cape, from H&M.
2. Striped shirt, from Asos.
3. Skinny jeans, from Zara.
4. Chelsea boots in black leather, from Pull & Bear.
And, on this one I'm wearing:

1. Denim vest in acid wash, from Forever 21.
2. Oversized polka dots t-shirt, from 8 Seconds Korea.
3. Super skinny jeans, from Asos.
4. Chelsea boots in black leather, from Pull & Bear.
5. Boot socks, from A Land Korea.
6. Black hat, from H&M.
As promised, here's not one but two different outfits featuring Chelsea boots! I went for two contrasting styles; the first is more classic and formal, something you might wear for school or to your job and; the second is a bit edgier, say, to wear at concerts or parties. I got my boots on sale at Pull & Bear and I've loved them since day one.

Like I said before, I prefer to pair my Chelsea boots with skinny jeans. Personally, I like how they look with the super skinny jeans better but I wanted to showcase diversity. Since these type of shoes don't have shoelaces or a contrasting tip, you can either match the color of your jeans with them (to elongate your legs) or clash it with a different hue to differentiate and give focus to both items.

On that same note, I added some boot socks to one look to break the matchy-matchy idea of black pants and black boots. But then again, each outfit serves a different purpose and has a different vibe. So, here's how I styled a pair of black Chelsea boots. Let me know if this gave you any ideas or if you style yours differently on a comment. Thanks very much!

Don't miss my guide on how to style your Chelsea boots, with useful tips and info by clicking here.

¡Muchas gracias!

Henry.

How to style your Chelsea Boots

Black Suede Chelsea Boots | How to Wear & What to Wear With & Where to Buy Everyone's who's anyone, from the Beatles to One Direction and so on, has been seen with a certain type of shoes called "Chelsea boots"; now, those are ankle-high and close fitting shoes that could be made out of leather, suede or a million different things; they don't, ever, require laces, so they're quite easy to put on and take off.

Learning to love Chelsea boots took me some time. At first, I thought they looked dated, because I saw them with kind of like flare jeans and the boots were covered but; ever since I saw them with skinny jeans, I thought they were amazing. Funny how you can change your opinion just by looking at things from a different angle, huh?

A couple of fellas have asked me how to style their Chelsea boots. Apparently, they love the look of them but enter crisis mode after the purchase. The best piece of advice I can give is to  pair them with straight or skinny jeans (for me, the skinnier the fit, the better). From there, you can experiment: show your ankles, don't show your ankles, fold your jeans, tuck one leg in, be creative. Chelsea boots are a strong reference to the mod period in the 60s, remember that and use it to your advantage. Be a rockstar, have tons of fun.

Remember to check out a post featuring Chelsea boots tomorrow here!
Love always,
Hen.

Being a fashion blogger sometimes feels like living in a big guest house where you don't know your neighbors. You all live in the same place and have, more or less, the same basic room to begin with, but each and everyone personalizes it differently and has it turned into a home. There could be many different styles but, sometime during the day, everyone has to converge on something, there's a common interest.

While I was visiting my dad at the East Coast (Merida), I had the chance to meet a fellow colleague: Izael Garrido, from Style by Izael. He's from Merida and it was weird and funny to chat with him face-to-face; beforehand we were Facebook friends and stuff but it was nice to see him in person, it made him real, not just a collection of images on the web.

We met up to snap some photos and discuss stuff like wether bloggers should join forces or not. For us, the answer was obvious: OF COURSE WE SHOULD. One of the biggest issues bloggers have to face is obscurity; it's important to get out there, do your public relations and collaborate strategically to reach different markets. Sorry for all the niche-language but, hey, I'm a publicist, after all.

Be sure to check out Izael's work over at his site: Style by Izael.

Book Club #3: Forbidden

Hey guys! In case you're not aware of this, I recently launched a book club here on the blog. I know it's not really related to fashion but I also think that is quite important for everyone (inside and outside the fashion industry) to read more. This book marks the third entry on the club, it's a deeply disturbed yet relatable story from an author I recently discovered but one that quickly gained my heart. Book Club #3 is Forbidden, by Tabitha Suzuma.

// ¡Hola amigos!
Book: Forbidden, by Tabitha Suzuma, bought at www.bookdepository.com
I'm drinking: Freshly made orange juice with strawberry pieces.
Are we star-crossed lovers? Are these feelings really wrong? Maya and Lochan are brother and sister but they've always shared a bond stronger than blood. Set in a dysfunctional home, Forbidden tells the story of a family that has a million problems and no apparent solution. The two oldest siblings are forced to take care of their brothers and sisters when their mother checks out and shows herself as an insecure woman that's willing to sacrifice everything on her life just to feel loved by men.

Every chapter is narrated from the perspective of either Lochan or Maya; the first is the social outcast with a heart of gold; while Maya is more of a social butterfly, always hanging with the right crowd but feeling weird and distancing herself from them. For me, it was easy to identify with Lochan, he's cold, distant and shy but, once the ice is thawed, a sensitive and funny kid. Both of them find comfort with being who they are when they're together. Both of them share the burden of becoming  the support system of their family. Both of them are in love, with each other.

It's easy to judge a novel like Forbidden when you find that it touches the idea of incest but, I can tell you, once you get to know the characters, everything makes sense. And that's a bit scary. I love it when books make me feel something; and this one stayed with me. It's a lesson on love, on trust, on not being judgmental and, instead, learn how to deal with the world when they think you're wrong but, deep down, you know what you're doing is right. Tabitha Suzuma has the ability to suck you in on stories and make you wish they never end so, for me, Forbidden was amazing and it really hurt to finish it.

You can buy Forbidden (with free worldwide shipping) at www.bookdepository.com along with other titles, also by Tabitha Suzuma.

Let me know if you have any thoughts on this entry of the book club.
Love always,
Henry.

Abandoned Playground

I'm wearing:

1. Denim vest in acid wash, from Forever 21.
2. Plaid sleeveless shirt, from H&M.
3. Super skinny jeans in black, from Asos.
4. Leather sneakers, from Gourmet Shoes.
5. Pegasi necklace, from H&M.
6. Geometric bracelet, from Codes Combine Korea.
7. Rings, from H&M.
The amount of space and time that we waste over the years never cease to amaze me. For these photos, I chose another funny spot on my East Coast (Merida) house. This construction was supposed to be a complex of apartments for students (there's an important university 10 minutes away from my house) and, for one reason or another, it never materialized as that.

Instead, my sister and cousins (even my nephews, that I like to call "cousins" to feel young, haha)  and I adapted it to be a sort of playground. You see, in Merida the heat is unbearable so, at times, the only answer was to play outside after the sunset. We used to play hide-and-seek in this place... Now everyone's all grown up and this strange construction became an abandoned playground.

I think it's important to look thoroughly at things, find what we have and make the most out of it. This "waste of space" looked cool on photos but it doesn't function anymore, there's no utility left. I don't want to inherit those traits from my family and become a visionary that never accomplishes things. No, no. Fashion-wise, I chose the colors that suited the construction best; this was an outfit for going to a club downtown. The weather obligated me to wear no sleeves.

Hen.

Mirror, mirror, on the wall...

What you see when you have a mirror is a reflected duplication of an object that appears identical but reversed. Is that how we're supposed to feel when in front of a mirror? Like there's someone out there that looks exactly like you but is, actually, a reversed version of you? I think we usually assume that the image in the reflection is an exact replica of us but what if it wasn't?

I've given that idea a few rounds of thought. When people ask me how my ideal home looks like, I always say that it has tall ceilings, wooden floors and tons of mirrors; they say that having a bunch of mirrors is kind of vain but I like to think that they'll have a purpose: reflect all the different sides of me, of my personality. A reflection is there for a reason, to show us what we can't see for ourselves. To see the things hidden from our own eyes.

Henry.

I've heard that home is where your heart is and that's not necessarily attached to a house or a group of people. It's very true. I visited my dad on the east coast of Mexico, a city called Merida, and his house still feels like my home. My mom and dad got divorced when I was thirteen or so, ever since then, I feel like I have two homes and, truth be told, it's not a bad thing.

I used to have a great dog at the Merida house but he past away last year. That was heart-breaking. I was really upset; imagine my surprise when I arrive and see this funny golden fella that decided to crash my photos. That's right, I have a new dog, his name's Theo and he's crazy awesome. I'm such a dog person (small dogs), they make me happy. And, although no one can replace my previous pet, this little guy made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside, he made me feel even more at home.

On a side note, it's important to say that Merida is a hot city, and I mean weatherly. They live at around 108ºF (39 ºC) all year and it's humid and horrible and I hate it. It's really hard to dress up properly and the way I like it with that heat but I managed to do my best. A lightweight sweater, beige jeans and desert boots helped me survive without looking sloppy (I'm not a "t-shirt and shorts" kinda guy and I'll never be one).

Let me know if you feel like you have different places you call home and that sort of stuff over at the comment section (:

C'mon, isn't he awesome?
Love always,
Hen.

Lacoste: 24 Teeth

Based on the 90s and the tennis courts of that era, Lacoste introduces a collection called "24 teeth"; I was invited to the launch of this awesome line and the inspiration behind it is far from boring. Lacoste, as a brand, was founded by a French tennis player called René Lacoste, back in the 30s; he was nicknamed "the crocodile" (hence the brand's mascot) because of his tenacity on the court.

The rest is history. Lacoste became one of the coolest and most popular brands in the world. The "24 teeth" line name was extracted from the fact that a crocodile only uses 24 teeth to catch its prey. So, in a way, it's a premium line with a lot of history behind it. Between leather, mesh and snakeskin, these shoes are classic yet awesome pieces to add into the Lacoste repertoire. It will be a limited edition, so if you want a pair, then be fast and hunt like a crocodile!

Love always,
Hen.

I love flowers, I really do (and, of course, that's not the manliest thing to say), they make everything look better and if they match your hair, which is a weird but awesome miracle, you should make the most of it and shoot photos. Statements like these make me feel like I'm gonna save the world one day or something, haha, just kidding. I know I'm just a fashion blogger.

But, on that note, I've been thinking about what I do a lot. Last week I was bullied online on Twitter by an "anonymous" source (that was dumb enough to not protect its IP address) and, when I knew who the person was, I stood up for myself. And, although it felt great and everything, it made me realize that sometimes I forget that being a fashion journalist is supposed to be a fun thing to do.

So there we go, now I have to remember that I'm not doing what I do for money or free things or anything of the sort. I'm doing it because it's an activity I enjoy very much and, if a monetary compensation comes out of it, then great. I'm a wallflower, not a fallen petal. A wallflower with lilac hair and spikes on its jacket.

Love always,
Hen.
